Stunning weaving denim rug from old jeans ♻️
For this denim carpet i used: husband's jeans, my jeans, 4 pairs of kids jeans, two denim dresses, shorts.
I made 175 metres of ironed denim tapes. In the end my carpet size: length 147cm, width 74cm.

  • Next time you make one of these rugs (which I must say, are VERY beautiful!!), and you're struggling to find enough denim, go to your local charity shops, and ask them to save all the pairs of jeans that are not good enough for sale which would only end up in the rag bags. If you offer to pay more than the rag man, they'll happily save them for you. I ended up with about 50 pairs of jeans when I was looking for denim for a project by doing this, and it only cost me about £5 for the lot!!

  • Thank you for honestly representing how much, time, effort, planning, and fabric you put into this project. So many tutorials (particularly on weaving/rugs) gloss over those aspects. The precision, measuring, cutting, making the tape, ironing are the key to this professional result. There's nothing wrong with "rustic" rag rugs, made with rough cut/torn fabric strips the irregularities are part of their beauty. Seeing your project reinforces that it is important to have realistic expectations. Perfection requires extra effort and planning.

  • Welcome to my sewing room. Everything gets covered in denim “dust”. I make quilts with scraps. I understand how much time goes into deconstructing the jeans. It’s a labor of love. You have inspired me to try my hand at a rug. Wish me luck.

  • I love this! I makes me want to make one out of all the old jeans that are too small for me. Instead of sitting in my closet making me sad, I could make something beautiful out of them ❤🧡💛💚💙💜

  • What a great gift this would make, using someone’s loved one’s jeans as a ‘memory’ item. So many other ideas too, so glad this popped up in my feed thanks!

  • Absolutely beautiful! Another project where I turn to my friend and say, “Janice, we can do this.” I have never woven anything in my life.

  • Your rug turned out beautifully! And, I know you must have a lot of patience as this involved so much prep time as well as engineering your own loom. Enjoyed your video!

  • Explained so well and I loved that you used regular tools that a sewer would have in their house and did not need specialized equipment.

  • This was simply stunning. And even though I know it represents a lot of time and work, it makes me want to weave my own jeans rug. Thank you!

  • Thank you for your tutorial! I'm in the process of making my own rug now, following your directions. I bought four pairs of jeans (largest sizes I could find, just in case) at the thrift store for $10 (USD), used a seam ripper to take them apart, ironed all of the pieces, and am now in the process of cutting the strips. I bought some cotton rug warp (yarn) online, practiced tying a knot to keep it taut, and selected a rack in my apartment to use when I get to the weaving step. Thank you for your great video! I'm excited to see how my rug turns out, though it might be a while before it's finished. There are a lot of steps!
