Not everyone is a millionaire like Kristen and can afford to buy big houses with lots of space. A lot of people prefer to design open house concepts because it can give the “appearance” of more space in a smaller home. And it gives more room to add decor without boundaries.
@@cookiesarelikecream nah. Some people just feel safer in closed spaces. My house is small and I just can't see myself calling "my home" to a unnecessarily big house nor want I show off how much money I have with the size of it.

I like this setting with the designer explaining their design process. It’s truly great and refreshing for people who like actual interior design as opposed to people who want to watch celebrities shamelessly pretend that they did all the work.

I love that Kirsten shared this moment with Jane! So many celebrities pretend they're the designer/decorator when you know there are other people who have made the magic happen. So cool to see how well they work together and know each other's tastes and opinions.
My favorite moment was at the end when they were talking about how it was an emotional house and the designer was like, "it has so many layers for the house, and us, and the furniture..." And Kirsten interjected "and my family" and the designer was like, oh yeah, them too I guess.

That's such a great point! She shared this moment and showcased the work Jane does and how much she means to her. You can see their friendship radiate and it is so beautiful.

She had me at the opening statement- “I don’t like feature walls, and I don’t white kitchens, and I don’t like open concept- how ‘bout that (snap)!” This is a wonderfully curated and decorated home, so many unique and special items (and the stories behind them). She likes everything that I like- wallpaper, saturated color, and old stuff that’s not necessarily precious (or expensive). This home is not meant to impress you, it’s meant to envelop and fascinate you. You can feel the camaraderie between them. I could listen to these two talk about this home all day, simply fabulous.
She truly represents with her tastes, statements and styling what is it all about.

I love that Kirsten's home feels like a home and not a over the top, fancy, austere gallery or just expensive decor and furniture. It has soo much character and I really love that its heavily curated, with some priceless pieces but there is beauty in the imperfection of the decor. It feels personal, poignant intentional but unforced and not fussy. So many LA homes dont feel like homes, they dont feel like you can relax in them, they feel like bragging show pieces to throw parties and impress people and Kirsten's home feels like a genuine personal space.

Kristen Dunst home is the most intelligent ,spiritual and emotional home I've seen.It's like she was reading a book slowly like you get to know your best friend over a lifetime. So refreshing , it truly has it's own life.

Beautiful home with so many personal touches. I love that they both agree on having objects that make them feel things because they are heartbroken. I've just started getting my 1897 house back to its glory, and this video has inspired me on a whole other level! Bravo!

I get it. If you live with other people and you want some quiet now and then, you can't do it if your whole house is open concept. Sometimes you just want to quietly cook a meal or concentrate on whatever else without other people in your hair. Especially if you tend to be introverted and really like deep focus.

The designer being present divulging the steps of their craft, the stories behind certain elements/items chosen, & really seeing the special bond between a designer & client. This is so simple, yet so intimate & I just love it! I would adore watching more of these!!

I am SO happy there are celebrities like Kirstin. I am not a trend person myself. I am more of a classic, historical, elegant, traditional kind of a person. It's really reassuring to see successful people that excelled in their line of work/art and remained loyal to their personal styles.
I've been a fan of hers forever. She's such a class act and it's no surprise her home reflects that.
It's a toss up between Kirsten's house and Dakota Johnson's for the best AD ep. Beautiful and yet effortless style.

Finally a house that looks like a home that reflects the owner. Too many homes on AD look like expensive versions of other people's homes. Also like that the home is decorated with expensive things that are investments, not exspensive trends. Awesome!

Your first sentence goes nowhere.
She immediately starts out with “I don’t like featured walls, and I don’t like white kitchens, and I don’t like open concepts, how about that? (snap!) Give me a room where I can shut a door.” I almost jumped out of my seat and thought, OMG, FINALLY! I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. I LOVE IT. I LOVE her home already and I haven’t even seen the video yet. And after seeing the video twice, I was right. My kindred spirit (when it comes to home design and decor.) I LOVE her home. My favorite rooms are the kitchen and Ennis’ room. Just LOVE that kitchen! Thank you Kirsten. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! for finally showing me a celebrity home that isn’t a clone and letting me know I am not the only one, even though I know literally I am not the only one, who doesn’t like open concepts and white kitchens. but it is good to know there is someone well known out there who said it, put the words out there.
I agree, I love her individual style. I don’t like open plan or white either. The house is styled very nicely but don’t get the weird boat references seems random, apart from that most of it is nice.
@@zahla1447 I think the boat references is because her son likes boats. Anyway, I currently live in a home with an open concept and that is why I know I HATE it with a passion. This home wasn’t my first choice, but sometimes you have to make compromises for the sake of your budget. I thought I could live with it and grow to love it or at least like it. Instead, I grew from not liking it to hating it. Believe me, when I sell this home, my next home will not be an open concept.
@@Oxygen257 oh no sorry to hear that, hope you manage to settle down in a house more comfortable for you. Open plan seems more popular in US and Canada. I live in UK, luckily its less common. People are following the trend more though to make houses seem more spacious, as houses here are much smaller.

"Give me a room where I can shut a door! 🚪" is frighteningly relatable to me.. I was JUST thinking earlier today about how utterly displeasing I find an open Floorplan to be. It is antiquated for homes to be less open; but as an introvert, it is something I fantasize about! Love Kirsten! 🧡

This might be one of the coolest collabs between designer and client I've ever seen. Jane is a true gift, I've never seen a home so curated that I'd actually want to live in.
I love that she included the interior designer in this video.
This is one of my favourite celebrity homes... The colours... The layout... The stories... And it actually looks like PEOPLE LIVE IN IT! Which shouldn't be as rare as it is. I also appreciated the way they were able to discuss the provenance of the furnishings without sounding incredibly pretentious. They really connected with everything they were talking about and it was so much fun sharing in that walk down memory lane.

As a French 🇫🇷, I’ve always lived in a very old-fashioned environment, in houses older than the USA. Ancient stuff everywhere, broken and imperfect things, silverware… Seeing Kirsten’s home reflects my childhood and my very natural environment, I utterly love it 🥰

@@catherinetodd Non wonder why many foreigners settle here, or have a second residency 😊 The French may not be the easiest people in the world, everyone has flaws ; nevertheless, I must admit our « patrimoine » (monuments, buildings, castles, vineyards, churches) is worth admiring. I can't wait to travel to France (and Europe in general) for the first time for this reason. Though I must say, my Italian is much better than my French, so I should probably work on that before leaving the US. Here in Wisconsin, our "old, old buildings" are typically from the early/mid-1800s. But overall, most people here want a new building because our older buildings (those that aren't museums or on the historical registry) aren't taken care of very well. Especially here in Madison, where the trend is to knock down the super cool Victorian and Edwardian houses that were split into quirky apartments and then build a poorly constructed, exorbitantly expensive high rise building in its place. That's something I love about Europeans; from my perspective, it seems like you guys try to do things right the first time and take care of it, rather than constantly tearing down and rebuilding as the poorly built structures disintegrate.
That is what is frustrating....in USA, we tear everything down and rebuild. We don't keep history. We don't have many landmarks that were man-made more than few hundred years old. We have beautiful mother nature sites, Grand canyon, rivers, falls but rarely do we keep the first church or school building of a town. In my city, I am very thankful for Heritage Park....quite a few homes, doctor's office, post office, soda shop, school, and few other items (i.e. a railway cart) that come from the beginning of our county's time. Beautiful park to walk through, allowed in houses/buildings on guided tour....I never get tired of going.
@@discogoth Italy is the home of everything OLD OLD. I go almost every year and in my country OLD is medieval, in Italy it’s millenniums old. When I went to the US I toured the north east coast and every historic thing was kept up too well. It looked Disney fake to me.
I second the motion with Ms. Dunn: i don't care for the open concept and "Give me a room where I can shut the door", and good for her for buying at a young age art that she can enjoy for a lifetime. I remember a Barbara Walters interview with Bette Midler when Ms. Midler had become really famous. Bette Midler was asked what she purchased now that she had money and her reply was that she really wasn't buying much. "...books...records", worthwhile things to enjoy all your life.
open concepts only work for people that NEVER cook, i absolutely hate it as well!

Is it me, or the designer and client has an extraordinary bond of friendship( that's very hard to find in today's world) They've felt each other's experiences,they know what the other person is thinking and they think alike too, they finish each other's sentences ...what more could one want in a friendship!!!

@J Ds jeez I obviously know that there are billions of different houses in LA, I was talking from a non-American viewer perspective. I was just pointing out that media such as AD tend to cover minimal chic design way more than this type of cozy rural style. I'm sure Los Angeles residents are not offended by my opinion anyway
I agree doesn't feel like LA. More like a rendition of what a scandinavian countryhouse would look like in the mind of an American. And I love it it looks great would live in that house (not LA) 100%.
As a Dane, it makes me utterly happy to see the Scandinavian touch in their design choice. This house is truly "hygge".

I just love the personality, that she didn't go neutral on anything, and the history behind the pieces. Truly a gem of a home. Kirsten has always been a favorite actress of mine.
Off topic: but am I the only one shocked by Spider Man being the “first time she made (significant) money” 🤯 8 years after “Interview with..” and after a few years of being one of the TOP stars of “Teen films” 🤔 Crazy to think of how many iconic projects she may have been poorly paid for.
I think a lot of those were cult classics and didn't earn much at the time
She will have earned 200k+ on some earlier projects, but I think she means first film that got her a chunk of money to buy a nice house outright.
It's shocking but within the a marvel movie can mean never having to work again (unless you want to). Endorsements alone bring in millions, in addition to press, re-runs, swag, sequels, interviews events she would be paid to attend. She's fabulous and her success is 100 % deserved.

I'm not sure I'd want to live in it, it kind of feels like an antiques showroom but I admire the distinctive taste and how interesting all these things are. One of the more memorable celeb homes.

If I was ever going to hire a designer, it would be this lady. I love how much she understands her client(s) and chooses things that are perfect for the home. I agree with Ms Dunst’s comment about not liking open concept, feature walls, or white kitchens, and I absolutely adore her kitchen and dining room. Each room has its own beauty, and I love that everything has a story.

I've watched a lot of AD videos and this is hands down my favourite in terms of the structure with the designer explaining key features, and the style and design of the house iteself. Even when other celebrities say they really wanted to pay homage to the time of the house etc, it hasn't felt as genuine as this. It's a truly unique interior design and so beautiful

This is the best AD I’ve seen in a loooong time. It’s my dream to have this type of relationship with a designer. One that just understands my style and that is a true collaborator. And Kirsten’s personality and style is in every inch of the space. Well done!
I love Kirsten Dunst’s style. I don’t necessarily like everything in her house, but I like her individuality. Her NYC apartment from over a decade ago was fab!

Actually, the look is a bit Scandinavian cottage and log houses plus whimsical bohemian touch! And her mindsetting, as well, really reflects some of my Scandinavian friends. When I see the video and explanations, some people from the north would keep only things that attached the most for them. The upholstered chair shows it, the kitchen layout which I think very very Finnish and the shabby chic furnishings with mute colors with some prominence vintage furnitures really tells a lot of these style. She and the designer really appreciate art and how things were constructed by old-timer artisans - it's great mindset and something not so many people interest about around this hyper-modern home era.
This is probably my favourite AD video yet! Please include the designers in future videos. It was so great to hear how the celebrity and designer built this relationship over many years and invested in building a home with unique pieces together!
This entire space was absolutely gorgeous, very much so a dream home for me with the hints of glamor, rustic features, and overall homley detailing. It was a delight to see and hear how such beautiful decor and architecture found its equally beautiful owner.

This house tour surprised me in so many ways. So many Easter eggs throughout the house, the mice in the wallpaper next to the fox, the bandana in the kitchen tile, the screaming pitcher when you open up the china cabinet, and the list goes on. What lovely details!
She really put thought into buying things and collected them overtime.. this is how you design timeless home.

I loved watching this because Kirsten always seems like an enigma to me. I don’t know much about what she thinks because she’s fairly private and I can appreciate that. I will say she’s close to what I imagined her being. Pensive and a bit solemn but also kind and to the point. Ennis’s room is breathtaking. A literal tear brought to my eye.

This is, by far, the loveliest Hollywood home I've ever seen. I've always adored Kirsten as an actress, and now I see that may be due in part to our appreciation of the less-than-perfect. The authentic.
I don't know what I expected Kirsten Dunst's house to look like but this wasn't it. Yet, watching the video it makes so much sense cause she seems so calm and grounded and that's the vibe I get from this house. It's not flashy but rich with antiquity.

I love this house even though it’s a bit too dark for my taste. I love antiques and I love that every piece in her house either mean something or reminds her of something. Most celebrities or rich people would just buy things to show there wealth, she actually built a home that has a soul and a story to tell. BRAVO!

Love how each space has it's own story, it gives a warm welcoming to each room. Always liked Kirsten, one of the few celebrities I enjoy today, and now I can certainly say she has good style.

I LOVE how they personify the furniture pieces. It's a beautiful thing to honor and cherish antiques. They really do carry the energy of their history in them in a similar way to people. Ugh, these ladies are old timey goddesses. Love it!
I understand how someone could get emotional… all the history and stories that live in this house is overwhelming! It’s a cozy art history house museum! Loved that she choose to invest into home decor that can be passed on for generations to come
That was soo beautiful!! It almost felt like a documentary. I feel the way the house was designed sends a message that things do not have to be perfect to be beautiful. In fact , sometimes the imperfection can lead to an open space that allows the light to shine. Amazing actress and person Kirsten is!

It does look very „European“ in a way. Here in Central Europe we have many old houses and old farmer houses that look similar and have a lot of different old furniture and colors in them. When I imagine a typical American kitchen for example I‘m thinking about the description that Kirsten gave Jane Hallworth with the mainly „white open modern kitchen“.

This house looks totally beautiful I love the fact that it has so much history,the eclectic pieces she has purchased throughout her life,career I want to say. Vintage items are one of a kind and I'll go for that anytime then having a modern house.

I love how personal this house is and how deep we get to delve into their collaboration- especially the tenure- over 20+ years! I will also take personal taste over generically "good" taste any day- so much more interesting.
Had to watch this again a year later. It's one of my favorite AD homes.
I love white and white kitchens I love a open concept so our styles are completely different. But your home is to reflect your style and something that reflects your personality.
