6 years of wrestling and 4 in BJJ and I have never seen these variations on the Russian 2 on 1. I would describe them as very advanced. There are simpler, more basic takedowns off the technique (usually the single leg is there for the taking). Having said that, Kumbarov has outstanding credentials and I am sure is an excellent wrestling coach. Roger is also one of the (if not the) greatest BJJ players ever (according to my old training partner who rolled with him). Renzo told me, many years ago, that Rickson was the best, but this was before Rogers' time. The Russian 2 on 1 is one of my favorite techniques, I just want to point out that the moves here are more advanced and you should be aware of the more basic, but extremely effective variations before you integrate these techniques into your takedown arsenal.
You're a very good instructor, I appreciate the detail and effort you put into these videos.
I've been spending the last two weeks delving into the Russian tie (2-on-1) experimenting finding every video or text I can on it,it's set-ups,finishes, transitions and more so this video in my notifications made my day.Big Thank yous to Lyubo, his use and to you Stuart.
Sounds like you know exactly what you are looking for! Glad you liked this, it is another awesome tutorial from the excellent Lyubo Kumbarov, easily one of my favourite people on this channel!! You are more than welcome, it is always a pleasure spending time with people as great as this!
Very smart to explore the 2 on 1,it gives so many peoplea hard time because it's not so common in BJJ or even wrestling, especially in the West.
@anonymous Lyubo Kumbarov and there are instructions on www.warriorcollective.co.uk
Still coming back to this over the years. Fantastic instruction. Thanks
One of the best martial arts channels on YT IMHO. Thank you for uploading the video.
The Russian has been one of the best moves I used from wrestling when I transitioned to BJJ and no gi. Everytime someone gives you a lazy collar tie or they just love to hang on your neck and do nothing, the Russian works perfectly
Love these wrestling techniques. More of these please!
A great instructor and lots of useful information. Keep the work up !!
Awesome explanation and demonstration! Thanks for making it!
Brooo this is gold instruction. Awesome stuff
Whoever dislike this video doesn't know what real wrestling is. This channel is great and Lyubo is a helluva trainer.
You touched all the points my coach explained. Great methodical video.
Who is this guy teaching? He looks like someone that MANY gyms would consult and have him teach seminars. Excellent video
im just to amazed right now....speechless
Excellent info. Thank you!
This is an awesome video. Very easy to understand. Thank you 🙏🏽

It’s effective and a valuable information and this works well
your techniques are advanced and effective You have explained this method very well in the video and I understand that your video is full of knowledge.
Professional. Thanks
Love this tie up setup to single leg.
Yes. If you follow wrestling (I do) you will see the 2 on 1 to single leg many, many times. It is a critical bread and butter move.
Super helpful ty
Great video!
Very cool. Thank you.
excellent thankss
Браво, нашия! Много добро видео.
love the control with the weave lock. Very good info!
Excellent
AWESOME!!!!!!
Buen video gracias. Thanks for the video
Parabéns! Obrigado! Thank you!
Fantastic!
Vcs são top. Parabéns.
Good stuff brother
Thank You!
Never seen this grip, intrigues me as to the differences between breaking this hold vs the traditional 2-on-1.
Good training gentlemen! 👊😎
We always try!!
Thanks a lot, I really love this.
Very good
I dont know how I just came across this video. I’ve watched all your suples training videos, but this is even better and more relevant to my jiu jitsu
Anyways awesome vid 👍
Can u show the last sequence in the gi? Love the vid
Please make more!!
Got a lot more coming, ;-)
The first part of this series was excellent instruction on fundamental wrestling. I guess the reverse kimura is a more advanced, but most wrestlers have probably seen this before. Then, suddenly, the second part (when Lyubo talks about the stiff-arm in the gi) became super-advanced. Jump in with a grapevine hook + reverse head-and-arm control to establish the Merkel, and do an uchi-mata / sumi-gaeshi (or hikikomi gaeshi). I'm glad I watched all the way to the end!
JSL: Yes, these are extremely advanced variations on the technique. I wrestled for 6 years and my son is an accomplished high school wrestler, and I have never seen a takedown off a Russian 2 on 1 to a Kimura. My old training partner (Jay White) used a Kimura to takedown and submit an opponent in an MMA fight, but it was not set up with the Russian 2 on 1. I also follow Olympic wrestling and have not seen it. On the other hand, I have seen the 2 on 1 used for the single leg about a million times. The 2 on 1 is an absolutely fantastic technique, it gives you total control over your opponent. However, all my wrestling experience has been US based. It is very possible that this technique is used in Bulgaria, and Kumbarov is a 100% legit wrestling coach. Also, my old partner (Jay) who has tapped about a zillion black belts and is a multi PanAm and NAGA champion says that Roger is the best he ever rolled against.
I would imagine when you watch the Olympic you mostly watch the freestyle wrestling where 2 on 1 is not dominant but even in that style, there are wrestlers that use the 2 on 1 for the uchimata position quite successfully. You can even see the uchi-mata thrown done from 2 on 1 in folkstyle wrestling. You might want to check earn your gold medal, he does a great breakdown of 2 on 1 and uchimata used in the ncaa wrestling. Now when you go to greco roman wrestling they are really the expert of 2 on 1. One guy that is amazing at this is Ismael Borrero @@seanreed9472
Awesome.
Перфектно обяснено, брат!
This video is awesome! I had a real light bulb over the head moment
I like this tecnic ..mi paisano Ismael Borrero do it a lot
I think more fighters should try using this on fighters who use their arms to post (Conor, Jones) or fighter who leave hangers
Do you cover 2 on 1 in the instructionals on warrior collective?
Merci
Thanks
You are the best
Lyubo is truly phenomenal, one of the best coaches I have ever met!! Glad you liked this great video from him!
Definitely drilling this.
Awesome video I'm definitely going to binge watch all others 👌👌👌😁
🔥🔥🔥
More of this! ;)
It is on it's way ;-)
Nice video. Would love to see you both go live for a round or two.
Brillante
Beautiful😍
this is awesome, I would do this, "Russian tie" and get guillotined often. However making sure the head position is is key point I was missing. Thank you.
There a lot of counters to the guillotine from 2 on 1. Some people will keep their head low when having the 2 on 1 so the opponent reaches from the neck. From there you have a duck under and an arm throw from fireman's position
2:28 if he bends the arm 3:14 front drag
Ty
7:00 mark. REALLY useful move!
that russian move to named obviv or entvine - setup to russian trow obviv,
Nice
For sure!
yes👍
Hi. I would like to know how to block the control of our back by the opponant, if the opponant do the russian tie technic on us? Thanks.
Controlling your opponent is the number 1 purpose of the 2 on 1. It enables you to move him wherever you want, and thus secure the takedown. It is also a great self defense move.
Muito bom
Krall
Was he in the tiger Muay Thai tryouts?
Great Bulgarian power man
Shoulder position
👍
And head position
Ive neve seen it used in mma.
technique @3:27
This is what i run
i forgot the waiter so had to come back
DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A SINGLE INSTANCE THE 2ON1 HAS USED IN MMA OR ANY COMBAT SPORT WITH STRIKES???
Seen it many times in the UFC its also reactions and instinctual nobody just only goes for Russian ties
@@starlord2858 please name a single UFC fight it's been used in. Or any.
Why did I wait so long to watch this? : (
would this defense also work against a thai clinch?
It is a fair question but I am going to edge more towards answering No on this. It would be hard to strike from this position in Muay Thai and most of the takedowns etc you can hit from here would not be allowed either!
Stuart Tomlinson I meant if its an mma match and the opponent uses a thai clinch by getting both of his hands behind your neck would this defense still work to free yourself from the clinch-hold?
Yes, it would work. Also the duck under is another wrestling technique that is great for countering the thai clinch.
@@MGRA1996 the wrist is too far hidden behind your head it would be hard to pull off clean. I'd say either pop one of their arms up and attack a duck under or as soon as they grab the clinch step in so you're chest to chest and grab a body lock look for a body lock throw or a leg sweep
@@MGRA1996 Yes, absolutely. The primary purpose of the 2 on 1 is to break the clinch and then control your opponent. If I have the 2 on 1 locked in properly it will be impossible for you to hit me. I had tremendous success with this technique when I was a doorman/bouncer. If you study Dumog you will also see that they us variations of this technique, and Dumog is 100% self defense, zero sport.
7:20 uchi mata
Reverse Kimura
I believe the leg entanglement showed here “like a snake” is kawazu gake and is banned in judo. I may be wrong but maybe ask your sensei before trying it in judo randori
not wrong i think it is banned technique :)
bad locking. palm is facing up and grabbing your own wrist not facing down
Lets go charles oliveira
How to be an Elite Wrestler?

How the fook am I supposed to grab their hand and have them just chill with me turning it like that. I feel they would instantly freak out and break away
practice
What do you do if your opponent goes for a Thai clinch
If you have secured the 2 on 1 properly it is impossible for your opponent to clinch.
The intro is 14 seconds. Shorten it into 4 or less
I have done that now Sir ;-)
Stuart Tomlinson perfect. As a sales man thought me is keep is short and simple. Kiss
I thought it was significant that he introduce the red belt he was with. Bump it up to 8 sec.
Do not forget the waiter
