During our trip to the Philippines, we trained with rising star shooter Bro Tecson, who is one of the best shooters in the Philippines.
During our training session, we were wondering why the country produces a lot of great shooters. Bro shared a number of different benefits to training at shooting ranges in the Philippines versus many other countries.
Not only do Filipinos train and practice a lot, but they can also train very efficiently because of their shooting ranges and the government's support.

Let's not gloss over the fact that firearms ownership and the shooting sports is a rich man's game in the Philippines. Your 200-300 round ammo count for a single practice session state side is a steep bill for most of the locals. Also if you're a balikbayan doing some shooting during your vacation please remember to tip your range assistants well. They're doing all the heavy lifting after all.
Lmao in my country its hard to get a gun only the rich can afford it ammo lmao u can only get 50rds a day and u are required to get a license for ammunition which another headached lol 😂

I was stationed in the Philippines in the late 80s and was amazed at how extensive the gun culture is there. Having just come from Korea I was amazed at how firearms were comparatively everywhere. The main handguns you saw being carried in those days were 1911s and some form of four inch .38 revolvers since 9mm wasn't a huge thing yet. Beautiful country and beautiful people....
One range I've been to in Cebu, Philippines had a reloading machine on site. So in addition to having staff tape targets and load mags, there were literally guys picking up your brass and reloading it while you shot. The range was by the ocean as well with a clubhouse overlooking the water so it was practically a country club experience!
If you don't have an ear protection. You can used empty brass for earplugs 😬

Granted, I don’t shoot for multiple hours on end. And my training sessions are usually not more than 200 bullets. But personally I like the mentality that you load what you shoot. And people who shoot help with building and tearing down, as well as resetting stages. Always cool to see the absolute world class shooters go around and patching targets. Keeps shooters grounded imo.
As a Filipino-American, this is just another reason for me to go back and visit the homeland.

Filipino is a westernized naming convention, the dialects originally didn't have letters F & V in the alphabet hence the way Filipinos pronounce things. Pilipino is the official spoken language created a ways back by the government to have a standardized dialect. It is mainly Tagalog based because it has the most commonality amongst the dialects. Pilipino is also the correct spelling and pronunciation in reference to the people.

Their are good shooters in PH but that's because when they train, they had the available resources for it. Bro Tecson be shooting from 9 to 3 but the ammo prolly costed him a 6-month salary of an average minimum worker.
You forgot to mention that shooting sport is not an option for the average Filipinos. Also, legal gun ownership in the Phils is very restrictive…

Another positive practice is having a caddy a-la golf. When you’re competing you can employ a caddy to help you pick up brass and load up mags, even carry stuff and all. Money talks here but it has its pleasures. Legal wise, it’s the same thing, money-talks. Lots of possibilities as long as you are able to get them.
With ammunition (even if you reload) prices that serious dedication. Boy I wish someone would do the reload of magazine, paste or set up targets.

My wife is Filipina and would love to move to the Philippines but they don't allow foreigners to own any firearms and that is a deal breaker

She can own them and you can use them, that's okay by law....if u trust her enough :P

My wife and I went to an indoor Armscor range in Manila. It was the first time shooting for my wife (she did great) and I found the the range boss very knowledgeable and professional.

Thanks for this. So how much of gun support do the Philippines give to their citizens? Is there a lot of red tape to own or carry concealed? Appreciate the channel.
There are private “by invitation only” ranges that I’ve been to where we do all the grunt work, which in my opinion is part of the fun, safety and maintenance training/practice. We have a rather healthy gun culture here in the PH-though we do get the occasional gunfight (few and far between) between private citizens. I think it’s because we have one of the longest, still ongoing civil wars in the world (govt/military vs. communists and govt/military vs. islamic separatists).
Training on that hot and humid, crappy weather will help them too. Breathing is key
What were the "rules" or "policies" flying overseas with firearms and ammo? I have been meaning to do some research on this but havent gotten the chance to. But since you guys are over there (or were over there if you're back home already), im assuming that you guys had to find out or inquire about these information, and id like to know. That way, the next time i go there to visit family and friends, maybe, just maybe, i could possibly bring mine. Edit: feel free to email me the answer if you guys prefer that. Gun prices and ammo are ridiculously expensive in the Philippines, pretty much 2-3 times as much as what someone would pay for an AR or a Glock in the US or Canada (where I am from) also, civilians are not allowed any rifles that shoot 5.56 or 7.62. Other than that, beers are cheap so for that, I am down.

Is tactical firearms training available to civilians/the public in the Philippines? Can you carry concealed? Suppressors? How does the shooting world there compare to the United States?
Yes to all..albeit strict because regulations exist (eye roll). While we don’t have the Second Amendment the United States have, our government recognizes the use of firearms in self defense (unlike some countries that do not), and we have a pro-gun lobby that helped construct our present gun laws. Some government officials in the Philippines are avid marksmen and markswomen. Firearms in the Philippines are acquired for either self-defense or sports and recreation, and while we have regulations that are strict on paper, are very much easy to acquire. We have senators who are pro-gun, and most civilians have shot one at some point in their lives..so I can say the firearm culture in the PH is pretty much similar to the US to some degree.
It's available but not all the time unless you in the uniformed/armed forces agencies. And if you want a mentor you better have yourself good cash. Also, it'sa rich man's hobby here.

@@isidrosevier1125 If you are coming to the Philippines for a shooting competition, then it will be a breeze for you since the host will be doing most of the dirty works for the processing of temporary permits. Bringing in Guns for personal use, especially for foreigners, that is a different matter and is highly discouraged.

Yes they do. It is just pricey to purchase one with too many fees and taxes. And i don’t know or hear anyone complaining about gun rights not like here in the US like they are on a crusade against 2A. Maybe because the Philippines dont have mass public shootings. The only time someone will shoot somebody is for very personal reason. I remembered when I was 14 when vacationing in the southern islands my grandpa would tell me to carry his revolver whenever we go to town and at night would keep the revolver under my pillow just in case. He said sometimes communist or muslim rebels comes down from their camp at night and knocks on villages for food or supplies and the next military detachment is miles away, so we are on our own.
No, it's hard to get guns in the Philippines, legally. You have to get a bunch of permits and clearances, and you have to get a permit to own, to travel, for each gun.
You have to go through a psych check, background, be 21,get training both shooting and safety. That's just to have in a business, or home and they can be hard to get for most.

Is it easier to purchase a handgun in the Philippines these days? Around 15 years ago, I met someone who could only own a Remington 870 pump for self defense.
As long as you have a License To Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF), buying legal firearms is just a breeze now.
How to join
when I was growing up in the Philippines we hardly have firing ranges. instead we just drive to our farm about an hour from the city. Start shooting all day. nobody complains my Dad was the DA and my Uncles were both officers of the Police and the Military. Even now here in the USA we just drive to the boondocks. there plenty of public forest where we live.

Are gun ranges open to the public in the Philippines? I know they have strict gun laws and civilians are not allowed to conceal carry with very few exceptions. We will be traveling there next year and would like to give these places a try if allowed.
Almost all of the ranges are open to the public and conceal carry here means that your firearm should be in a pouch. If you visit Metro Manila there are a few ranges that are nice, Makati Square has 2 ranges there you can try. There's also Stronghand shooting range in Quezon City.
There's a lot of public shooting ranges in the Philippines, indoor and outdoor.
Not all firing range in the Philippines are like that.. in other range u pick up your own brass and setup your own target. You do your own obstacle

Shooting ranges have staff in place to work on them, so shooters can concentrate on the shooting. I have been to several open-field ranges and all of them have workers in place to do what Miles have said.
Nope. A earn 300 dollars a month and I own 2 1911s. Problem is training, ammo costs half a dollar in cities and almost 2 dollars in provinces.

Not really. Most of the ranges, especially around or near Metro Manila have standby workers or caddies. Usual pay is around 10-20 dollars or depending on the generosity of the patron. These guys are well versed in assisting shooters. Some of them are even brought by their patrons in out of town shooting competitions around the Philippines. The best caddies were even brought to International Matches in Southeast Asia.

The Phillipines is not the great sanctuary for 2a supporters. Yes they have nice ranges but it is primarily the wealthy that get to enjoy it. It doesn't take much of a Google search to see just how things work their. Much like Mexico. Only the Government, Cartels, and Elites can enjoy these opportunities especially having people stay and load, setup range targets. That is not the common practice their for average citizens. In addition the U.S. has great ranges as well, just not available to the public. So if the Philippines is supporting professional shooters then they are basically state sponsored. I apologize if this comes off as American elitism. I used to think we were the gold standard in the world but seeing how corrupt our government has become I am really starting to believe the media has just shielded us from all the crime our leaders have been committing over the years. I love my country and would lay down my life for it but the current state of it is shaking me to the core. The abuse of power, seems to be the norm here in the U.S. as well. We all deserve better leaders so vote like your life and your children's life depends on it. Vote Republican and do your research, we also have rhinos in our party.
