  • Hi James the leak in the focus will most certainly be the vents behind the rear bumper they let water in fill up the cavity then it makes it way into the rear and front foot wells easy fix involves removing the bumper then tiger seal the vents back in problem solved cheers Nick

    • the area in the boot where the vents would leak into seems to be fairly dry but the white tide marks show the vents have been an issue but may have been looked at as looks like the seams on hatchback and around the hinges have been sealed so somebody has tried to cure at some point. all the water in the cabin could be failed or ripped door membranes and the water on the door sill is a good sign of leaking membranes

  • Door seals - Stick them back with STIXALL from screwfix, it can work but often new seals is the only way to fully fix.

  • On that focus. Door rubbers and pull the roof rail trims off and seam seal it up. The white gunk on the boot is seam sealer. These focus crack along the seams where the body joins. For that much water I’d expect cracks all along the roof to body side. Seal along all the joins for roof and boot. Also the door rubbers buy proper new ones don’t cheap out sticking back on they never work! Also you’ll want a new ABS sensor with the focus as the Speedo wasn’t working when you drove it on site. If it was battery the Speedo doesn’t drop out

  • Hi James I have had a 2012 focus for 2 years now and fixed the same problems. The leak will probably be the vents behind the rear bumper that need taking off and resealing and the abs, traction light and the speedo not working with the steering sometimes feeling heavier is all down to the wheel speed sensor. Exact same thing happened to me and was intermittent, got a new sensor from Ford and fixed all the problems.

  • Ive been caught out with UCH faults (Renault name for body control module) on the Meganes and Clios from that era, where it has seemed like a switch fault but it actually ends up being the UCH, internal corrosion to the relays which presents as a lack of feed to/from the component. Hopefully its just the switch but dont be surprised if the UCH is duff, they can be repaired quite cheaply by a guy I've used before who advertises on ebay

  • Chops, the leak in the boot is really common on the focus. Easy to fix - go underneath and there’s a black bung plug on each side at the rear of the car. Remove the bung, with long nose pliers remove the insulation - this can be a pain, as its soaking. Leave the bungs out, as this will increase airflow and keep the area dry. Root cause is vents behind the bumper, but no point re sealing as it never lasts on our roads

  • Damp! On older cars the CANBUS communicates with various control modules and damp gets into the electrons within those control models when the car is laid up for a while. As you say, low voltage is also an issue as the various control modules don't get enough juice to power up properly.

  • For the door seals ( an old aircraft trick, for baggage bay doors ). Coat both sides, rubber and mating surface, let dry, for at least an hour. When ready to install, reactivate one side with solvent, this gives you a few seconds to line it up, it sets quickly and sticks like f*ck.
