I see this as if BF never came. Sonic is his weakest form against Tails since they were best friends. Sonic fights Knuckles harder since they've had their goods and bads. Sonic turns into Xenophanes against Eggman since they've always had a rivalry.
Not gonna lie, Tails looked like he got the easy end of it, only losing a hand and tails while Knuckles got hollowed out, and Eggman, well, y'know why.

I personally envision it as if he's winning. Because he's going up, Rather than going down. Like whenever he consumes a soul he becomes stronger, You know what I mean? And whenever it gets to the Xenophane parts that's where he starts winning and taking the soul back

there are two perspectives for this 1. their souls are working together and fighting back, so Xenophanes is becoming each time stronger in an attempt of holding the souls back 2. Xenophanes is collecting their souls and they are trying to fight for their freedom, but it doesn't work and Xenophanes becomes each time stronger with each soul
BF managed to snap them out of Xenophanes' control
He apparently still won though because after every fight he just got stronger and stronger rather than weaker and weaker

Eggman’s part was just perfect! The laughs of each character fit into the song much better than other remixes, and the two laughs at the end were spine-tingling!
With the icons I'm guessing xenophanes is trying to get control of the souls again as their losing icons are present when they aren't losing and for the normal icon, it's present anytime the souls are losing
They're normal icons are xenophane starting to succeed and their losing icons are them fighting back and/or trying to kill xenophanes

Bro i can't get over the fact that they actually nailed Xenophanes volcals on the parts that aren't his own, like they actually got the double voice thing on him to sound decently well, not perfect as the original is a bit more pitched but besides that little thing, it sounds so good. This leaves me mad impressed man.

My head cannon is that sonic.exe was wandering his own world when all of a sudden the souls attacked, trying to get out of his control as a surprise attack. Sonic.exe tries to hold them back so he can evolve to his final form to fight back. The souls are very aware of what sonic.exe can do in his final form, and are ready to take him on... *and the battle starts*

It’s pretty hard to do that though since each phase has the exact same voice.

Hmmm... Let me add some lore to how this could happen. After BF leaves the realm Xenophanes created, Tails, Knuckles, and Eggman had the bright idea of actually fighting back for real this time, with Tails to spearhead the entire operation, and Eggman to be the brains of it all. But for such rebellion, Xenophanes decides to argue with all three before this even truly starts, but with their persistence, Xenophanes slowly grows angrier and angrier until he reaches his true form, and starts mocking Eggman in an attempt to make the three think they are truly powerless, when in reality, Xenophanes is slipping in his tight grip over his twisted version of Mobius.

I imagine this being the background music to a parody video of Sonic.exe where instead of him tearing through all the characters with ease, they all just clown on him the entire time.
I loved the iconic sonic laugh at 4:57 from the sonic exe story or whatever it was I enjoyed it. A taste of a forgotten creepy pasta’s laugh

I like to imagine this is the souls fighting back, and the phases of Sonic represent his relationship with them. He is in his most neutral and docile form when dealing with Tails because even in his evil state, Tails does not deserve a hard beating, for Knuckles he is a little more serious but still cocky with him, but for Eggman he goes into his most powerful state to fight him, probably due to them being long enemies.

KNUCKLES' PART SOUNDS INCREDIBLE! Thank you for turning up his vocals! EDIT: can't believe I didn't say anything else other than this. Sonic.exe's vocals also sound damn incredible. The harmonization in Knuckles' part is definitely one of my favourites.
