Join me as I cross from America to Japan by luxury cruise ship, onboard Silversea’s Silver Whisper. This is an ultra luxury cruise line, where everything is taken care of from having your own butler, a spacious Royal suite, fine dining and first class service. We’ll travel some 4,000 miles from Seward Alaska, stopping briefly on Kodiak Island, and in Dutch harbour, before passing the international date line. We'll arrive into Tokyo, Japan after 14 days at sea. I’ll show you exactly what it’s like from my Royal Suite, to the various restaurants and facilities onboard. As usual this is self funded, and Silversea had no idea I was coming.

  • In the 90's, I worked for a company that wrote/maintained onboard computer systems for a variety of cruise lines. So I had to travel on many different ships. We were considered contractors/vendors so we slept in passenger cabins and restaurants. I've found the smaller the ship, the better the service. I found the big Royal Caribbean ships to be horrible, as I hate crowds and cramped cabins. I loved the Silver Cloud (another Silverseas ship), EVERY cabin was considered a suite and had a balcony. It was fantastic in every way.

I would LOVE to have my mum still here and be able to take such a wonderful cruise with her. She'd have had an amazing time! To Will I say "enjoy these moments because one day she won't be with you anymore", but I think he's behaving like a good son and I'm sure his mum is proud of him! And in terms of the ship it's much more about how well they maintain it rather than how new it is. Some ships that are just a couple years old feel like they been used and abused by previous passengers, whereas this ship seems very well kept.

  • Love your videos! As it turns out we were on the first leg of that cruise from Vancouver to Seward, August 31st to September 7th. We were told that the ship was then going on to Japan, I assume you boarded the same day we got off. That was our first cruise ship experience and it certainly will not be our last. We love Silversea.

  • Is it bad that I'm hoping this leads into a mini series of reviews of different ways to travel in Japan? Because I would find that absolutely interesting. I know there are ferries, trains, buses, and planes, and hearing your opinions on those services would be interesting. Stay safe and stay awesome 💜

  • I've spent over a thousand days on the Silver Whisper on world cruises. I spent a segment in the Royal Suite you were in. It's the worst for rough seas! It was good to see the ship that is like home to so many of us Worlders.

  • I was on the Silver Whisper earlier this summer and had an amazing time. The service was amazing too.. A lot of the desserts on board have nuts in them, and being allergic I was slightly disappointed. I went to the grocery store during one of our stops at port and bought nestle toll house cookie dough in the hopes of the kitchen being able to make them for me.. Turns out they can't prepare outside food for health reasons. Next day, the butler shows up at my cabin door with a plate full of chocolate chip cookies that they made from scratch!

  • As I've said before Will, it's so awesome you bring your Mum and Dad on these trips when you can!! I've not crossed over that fake date line yet...but this cruise looks like the cool way to knock out a few bucket list items and get to Tokyo. That second suite mentioned, Deluxe Veranda suite...very reasonable cost for 2. Your Royal Suite...well that's definitely a dent in the savings account. Haha. Thanks for sharing this awesome video! Until your next one!!

  • That was a lot of fun. Editorially, my compliments, you keep things moving right along. And the way you handle your drone photography is most impressive! Considering how large your suite was, I would have liked to have seen more detail and really get a better sense of the space. As an aside, it's clear that this video did NOT cover 14 days at sea, but only 4 or 5. Interestingly, San Francisco to Tokyo by cruise ship is only 50 percent longer than the trip you made.

  • You did well by starting out of Seward. We did the reverse on Silver Muse 6 months ago and those nightly time changes were a killer…. Though we did experience May 5th twice! lol Unfortunately rough seas meant we missed Kodiak Island and Dutch Harbour because of rough seas, so a real downer. Japan however was wonderful. Never sailed on the Whisper, but did go on for lunch in Ho Chi Min city when our Silver Shadow cruise met to say hello. Have videos on YT showing Whisper arriving and departing in Ho Chi Min and also sailing under Dartford crossing using a drone. Great video as usual… such a tough life! lol BTW… our Seward train was cancelled, but surprised you went to the main railroad station and not to the cruise terminal and a 100 yard walk, which really is door to door .
