A BAD Resole Job on These Crockett & Jones Chukka Boots | We Refurbish Them Correctly

2020 ж. 10 Қаң.

A customer brought this pair of Crockett and Jones chukka boots into our shop after another cobbler shop did a bad repair job. He wanted us to get them back to their original look, so that's what we did. After adding a new welt, Baker leather soles, and giving the uppers a complete makeover, these boots came out looking nice.

    • Oh, you'd be surprised how many are still left! Many people, even in this modern day appreciate bespoke shoes. I have a few pairs myself, and frankly, the prices for cobbled shoes over 15-20 years, even including the resoles and such, is comparative in price to getting new shoes every year or two anyway. Now, this does mean you need to maintain your shoes more, like dry and clean (as needed), wax after some use, YMMV, and get the shoes to a cobbler if parts come loose, or you damage your shoes. And well, parts will wear out, like heels or soles. You can replace only the heel, or even just the wear layer of the heel, which is much cheaper. The LARGEST benefit by far, is that the part of the shoes that feels nice and worn in (uppers) need never be replaced, and even a newly soled shoe will fit on your foot like a cozy dream. It's truly a wonder to wear cobbled shoes, and I can recommend trying to buy a pair. Doesn't have to be insane in cost either, you can get good cobbled shoes (not bespoke, though, but still hand made) down to $300-400 dollars, or maybe even less, but I'd watch out for those dipping lower than that.

  • I can’t tell you how many times in my line of work I’ve had to go back and put right the lax “workmanship” of others. It’s frustrating to know there are people out there with so little pride in their work that they’d let something like that go out the door in the first place. A pair of C&J’s no less... those boots deserved better and I’m glad to see you get them properly sorted.

  • There’s so much here, as a GYW shoe enthusiast I can appreciate this process all the more. It’s entertaining but also really educational. Great job finishing the uppers also, that is a part that cobblers usually seem to skimp on. The extra level of finishing you guys put into this pair was impressive.

  • That's definitely going to be one happy customer! I've always loved chukka boots/shoes. These are beautiful IMHO & you guys did a superb job that is well worth the cost if you like them and have the money. The quality is top notch, so they can last a lifetime if you treat them properly. These are 10/10 hit the nail on the head "pun intended "! Must be pretty satisfying after finishing these. For Ppl that have nothing nice to say, then Plz don't say anything at all. This is a lost art that I can really appreciate and even though style is subjective, I think anything with that standard of craftsmanship should be highly acknowledged & appreciated. You guys are the REAL deal. Great work!
