L was wearing shoes, Ryuk wasted apple cores, and Light didn't eat a single potato chip. 0/10.
Sollatare I one hundred percent agree
Lmao
He scream tho
L did wear shoes in episode 9
I click on the like button with my right hand and the with my left hand grab a potato chip and bite into it!!!!
"Bullied high school student" and right away you ruin light
Light was already ruined from the start by reusing his name on shitty acting
"Bullied high school student" Dragonball Evolution
James c we don't ever bring that shit up it doesn't exist
Agreed. The whole point of Light's character is that his day-to-day life is ridiculously perfect - he's the top of his class, he's a nationally-ranked athlete, he has a loving, supportive family, he can have any woman he wants just by asking. But none of that matters to him, because he believes that "the world is rotten" and wants to make everyone else conform to his idea of perfection too. It shows how controlling and selfish he is. He has a life most people could only dream about, and it's still not enough. He cares more about being powerful than he does about being happy.
Hell, how about how incredibly wrong they got L?
"Light falls in love with..." Lost me
Levii I just imagine a bunch of middle aged men taking one look at a Death Note poster and squinting while proclaiming "ah so that must be Light's loving girlfriend with the blonde hair"
AYY NICE HOTEL DUSK PROFILE PIC. THATS MY SHIT
And his immediate family tbh
We all know he is gay.
If the next word isn't "himself" then yeah.
I had no expectations for this film and I was still disappointed.
You must have had some expectations then.

Varinder Bhandal Agreed

Muffin Yay Yes not moist at all nearly damp
how could they remove such an important scene from the animo! 0/100000000000!!!!
Wasn't Light a privileged, popular honor student in the original? Why the fuck did they make him a bullied kid like every other mc in the entire universe?
Oh No Because everyone loves the underdog. Literally so many American movies have to star the misunderstood, bullied loser.
Hannah McBride Dont forget that the "bullied loser" is also attractive. Because its hollywood, no uggos allowed.
Oh No The anime was commentary about japanese society So this is the same
Alex Buckland Nat Wolff is one ugly son of a bitch though.
Can't be an American movie if it doesn't have 20-30 year old adults playing as highschool students who always get bullied and are lusting after the hottest cheerleader who's in a relationship with some football guy They did it with Goku who was the epitome of manliness, not even surprise they did it with Light.
The anime is absolutely brilliant. The movie is a used tampon.
That's rude to say about tampons.
@Light Yagami I thought you were dead.
At least some people have a demand for used tampons
Lmaaoooooo
@@regan.8077 hes a shinigami
At least Ryuk looked pretty cool
Aceisawesome Which I have to remind you is like the only fucking thing they copied.
Aceisawesome Ryuk is too good for this film.
ryuk looked lame the anime did it much better
The only good thing
@@samprinter7960 ryuk looked so fucking awesome in the movie wdym?
I find L's casting ironic cause in the original series he was like the only non-asian dude. (1 quarter Japanese, 1 quarter russian, 1 quarter british, 1 quarter spanish/italian) Like, its so ironic, they made all the characters white except the white dude
true ;-; They kind of got his outside characteristics right... but they made L stupid and illogical in the movie
At least he had a little bit of asian in him Watari was the only 100% non asian guy in the first half of the anime and they made him the only asian in the movie
That kills me too, I guess they didn't get the memo that "Watari" is a codename and he's supposed to be an elderly white Brit.
Yeah the movie was an overall hospital fire, they gave it some nonsense ambiguous ending where L kills light or doesn't. They made light into a reluctant killer, crying about killing the fbi guys or whatever. L was about 0.001% as intelligent as the anime L. They ignore the whole Shinigami aspect of it, except for Ryuk. The girl was just an aborted fetus of a character. The movie was just as much fun as a stroke.
@@Mizu-AM yeah and stupid plot holes like writing in the death note just "watari" and it worked. Bitch wtf is this shit.
I'd go 5% moisture only because of Willem Dafoe
frostieisme William Dafriend* now. He's a very good actor in my books. Almost all of his movies are good.
Dafoe was excellent as Ryuk...what a waste of perfect casting.
Laryngeal Cancer Aleks You cant call him Dafoe anymore, he's William Dafriend.
That's the guy who's name I couldn't think of!
Lol Rick and Morty reference
This film is better if you watch it and pretend it's a comedy. When Light screamed, I laughed harder than I have in weeks.
a live action adaptation of a show? what could go wrong?
the japanese death note movies are pretty good
woop it's not a live action, it's an adaptation. Yes they are different things
woop The death note drama was pretty good.
dunno *cough avatar*
Movie adaptations of animes have only gone wrong 3/3 times
That 25% was all Willem Dafoe
Black weeb L is the only thing that seems properly "adapted" by definition of the word. Whiny, bullied Light makes zero sense meanwhile. If you wanted to adapt Light properly you'd have him be a shoe-in for Harvard and have a father working for the Pentagon or some shit like that.
black l "adapted"? He's like 3/4th white and 1/4th asian. Nothing was properly adapted punk.
@@OmniDan26 woah chill there Don’t pull out the 9 Jamal
I don't care that they made him white, I don't care that they made it in America, I don't care that L is black. What I do care about is how the characters are interpreted. They aren't themselves anymore with how they're written. They're just boring milquetoast morons in a stupid movie they called "Deathnote" because name recognition.
SpencerAnimatics Woah a smart person
SpencerAnimatics They completely got rid of his personality disorder, which was the one interesting trait about him. He isn't supposed to actually care about people. Crime is "ugly" to Light and it's his motivation.
SpencerAnimatics and also even though misa is annoying in the anime if they got her right it could've been so much better
Its like the live action dragon ball movie or should i say Dragon Balls.
@@emoemo247 Light just uses Misa as a helping tool
This movie made me sad
Secretlyapotato it did to me too but it was pretty bad
This movie made me feel dry
It made me angry.
Secretlyapotato same
This movie wrote my moistness into the Death Note and killed it, making it dry.
One of these days we will get a good live action anime movie I'll probably die before then
The original Japanese live action for Death Note is good - and they split it into 2 movies to avoid the overcrowding issue mentioned here
Samurai Sans Ghost in the shell is alright
I heard the live action Rurouni Kenshin was really good
The Japanese DN movie actually had a better ending IMO. Instead of reaching for Near and Mello, dragging the series on, they ended it the way the manga absolutely could have ended.
Tristin Buckley that was Japanese. America on the other hand needs to get their shit together
the only good thing that came out of this movie was that everybody told me the anime was so much better, so i started watching that and it's great
When Ryuk says "you can try to write my name but nobody has managed more than 2 letters" Bitch, there's legit a warning in the book where your name is written twice
25% moisty-roos? Charlie, you're too generous. This film has 10% moisture (and only if you are a fan) at best.
Willem DaFoe is that entire 10% too.
Jessika Castillo Really? I hear the first ten minutes of Black L are part of that 10%
It's worse if you're a fan because it pretty much spits in the face of the actual anime
tobby12347 I feel like as a fan is like a 3%. It shits on an amazing thriller/ crime drama. This movie could've shed light on how anime is not all big tits and over the top dialogue, bring in newer people you know.
tobby12347 I'm a fan and I'm just pretending it doesn't exist I hated it so much
The problem with American adaption of anime is that they stray far away from the source material at a point where it's unrecognizable. Or they just recopy it without knowing why it's so great in the first place. And the problem with Japanese adaption of anime is that they are way too close to the source material that the actors look like cosplayers. Some things don't work on the big screen. I think the filmmakers should find a balance between them. Not too close to the source material where it looks fucking ridiculous and not too far where it looks like a completely different thing. Like Edge of Tomorrow which is a live adaption of the manga All you need is kill.
i notice that american films are good at making things look nice, If they put effort into it and Japanese films follow the source material, i feel like a combination of Japanese and american studios would work well if the american cast do the makeup and the Japaneses direct the movie
So the first live action Death Note was better?
better then this, they weren't the best but they at least had tolerable quality
Varinder Bhandal Edge of Tomorrow is the only adaption that did it right.
Varinder Bhandal the only good live action adaptation imo is the rorouni kenshin movies which are amazing
My only question is why were there marbles in the classroom. What would a highschool be doing with that many marbles?
Its a school for "special people"
my only question is does he take a potato chip and eat?
Eh for science projects such as teaching kinetic energy or Newton’s law or something
I like the Kiras that live quiet lives.
I like the Kiras giving them the sheer heart attack
I like the Kiras that collect female hands.
I like the Kiras buried in the earth with 0 testicles
I like the Kiras that get run over by ambulances
Boot. I love kiras with sculptures of their own hands
Mia was more "Light"-like than Light himself. Only the end had any semblance of how the Note should be used and it wasn't that great.
I know it strays from its source material but L was losing his shit like nothing and that had me like wtf
I'd also like to point out the unfortunate implications at play here: L loses his shit, steals a car, recklessly speeds through town, harms a lot of people, crashes the car into a school, gets out with a gun, and proceeds to chase down a white boy while screaming and shooting at him, putting more people at risk and damaging private property in the process...and this is the character they felt needs to be the token black guy.
you forgot to mention how light had the absolute stupidest facial expressions i've ever seen on a human before
Eating potato chips was forbidden in this movie
Pros: Dafoe's Ryuk The actor for L did a great job. Some pretty cool deaths Cons: Everything else.
Ryuk was the only decent part of this travesty
Atleast they almost got L right aswell,But It bug me how Ryuk wasn't around much in the movie.
Pantsalonis I hated how L spased out and went total rage mode. Like L is supposed to be calm and collected. Also Light was a whiny bitch lmao
Also didn't like how light was trying to impress a girl instead of using her for his own gain.

Looks like Japan is first on the kill list.
They denied an Asian for that role because he was Asian
Tigger Wood RASICM
it isnt set in japan anymore
He dodged a bullet
Not wanting a certain race as the MC isn't racist if it makes sense for the movie. It's not racist to want a Japanese actor to play a Japanese MC if the character is born in Japan and has Japanese parents. This adaptation is set in the US, so it only makes sense to want an American actor (and most Americans are Caucasian). I understand what you're getting at, but it's just not the case.
The race of the characters wasn't the problem. It's like you paid zero attention to the review.
Light was bullied for being the Lead Singer of the Naked Brother's band. That's how he became Kira
There should just be a rule: don't make movie about anime or video games
idk ghost in a shell was good
I'm a Savage about everything wreck it Ralph is good
Yeah well Wreck-It Ralph is an original story set within a video game world, not an adaptation of a video game, which is apparently hard to do, maybe because the source media differ too much.
I liked the Postal movie, but that was it.
It's horrendously bad as a person who enjoyed the anime, but my boyfriend liked it and he never watched the anime so maybe he just has shit taste in film.
Jack Nightingale dont judge him yet, the fact that he still havent watched the gloriousness of the anime is enough reason to forgive him. we, the enlightened by Kira forgive those who are innocent, and condemn those who are blasphemous and commited unforgivable deeds.
sorry for bad english
Is it weird that I like the anime but still enjoyed the film.
He does
nah i did too
2:18 I can respect where their "HEAD" was at. I see what you did there
never seen any of your videos just stumbled upon it but the way you describe this movie and the words you use it made me want to watch more
Isn't this the same plot as Dragon Ball Evolution?
How did L go from making Casper the ghost look like he's tan to being a black weeb EDIT: Jesus Christ I didn't mean to sound racist. I meant like why they would make a change so drastic that you wouldn't be able to tell it was L unless they spelled it out. Another question, how the hell did Watari go from being white to Asian? I was wondering that throughout the movie too
no complaints about light,eh?
PAPA SMURF no one cares about the characters' ethnicity changes until it gets to the black guy. It's set in America, there are black people in America, it would make sense for at least 12% of a movie's cast to be black.
Alec Moyes yet the moment a white guy replaces another person people also lose their shit
Stabs Goblin So? That's an overreaction too, there was no problem with changing any of the characters' races to a new setting. Both criticisms are dumb, African Americans live in America as do whites. We can't just point at the people complaining about Light's race and say "See? They're doing it (even though I disagree with it) so why can't I complain about L being a black guy?" Either both of their races matter, or neither. We can't cherry pick which race changes to complain about. (Not that I'm accusing you of doing that.)
its completely different. name a famous white actor. now name a famous japanese actor. guess what, there are so many more white people in film than asians so of fucking course people dont like it. asian actors rarely get opportunities to shine, even when the source material is by them
What an absolutely horrible and disappointing experience this was. I knew it would be bad, just from the trailers, but holy jesus wielding chopsticks was it horrendous in its entirety. The movie was bland, soulless, with just only one redeeming quality - Ryuk's voice, provided by none other than Willem Dafoe. The main characters acting was bland, the way they presented the whole story - just a jumbled and incoherent mess. Turning the main character (Yagami Light) from a genius, centered and brilliant student into a whiny, bitchy and prissy teen with angst issues towards his dad, while all the while fluctuating from an incoherently screaming idiot who doesn't know what emotion he is experiencing to a empty and apathetic shell. Turning the introverted, creepy, yet incredibly intelligent and deductive, secretive and unapproachable L, who suffers from insomnia, into a loud-mouthed and brash mask wearing edgelord, who just gives straight presentations and speeches in public and runs around with his rooty-tooty-point-and-shooty is just sickening. Although, I gotta give credit to Lakeith Stanfield on doing a good job trying to keep to the roots of the character (however that might have been difficult with the producers, etc.). The supporting cast was no better. The ending tries to be open, yet ambiguous, but at the same time it accomplishes nothing at all. It tries to set up sort of a possible continuation, but if you are not dead from absolute goddamn boredom by the time you get to than ending, it will be so uneventful that you will not even care what happens overall. The whole intricate dance and game of cat-and-mouse L and Light do is completely eradicated in this adaptation and watered down to just a couple of lackluster interactions that don't provide any substantial reasoning behind those meetings whatsoever. Hell, Light is not even secretive about the Note and just goes bragging to Mia, like, "oh, looky what I can do". The whole "twist" she goes through later on is also lacking of any motivation or character development, her relationship with Light felt rushed and manufactured to a point where it was not even believable at all. There is just so much that is wrong with this adaptation. They tried to compress everything into a 2 hour film, they tried to rework it for a Western audience, they wanted to make it dark and focus on the detective angle more, but all #Netflix accomplished with #DeathNote2017 was just an edgy flick for the teens to enjoy, that failed miserably and not even in a spectacular fashion. This whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I was not expecting much from this, but I went in with an open mind and wanted to see this adaptation for what it was - an adaptation to westerner values, but even so it failed to such a large extent that it is a wonder we are not getting a public apology from #Netflix for even releasing this twisted mess.
Dyotic Script "Rooty-tooty-point-and-shooty" Are you British?
The ending was shit minus the way he got the book back to him
well you'd have to be a fucking god to actually do that whole scene correctly. how would you know you'd fall off a Ferris wheel? there would be a small chance of you falling into the water, the people he used, could have been in a different state than him.
he wrote that he'd fall into the water in the book, he created the safenet. i agree tho, him coordinating that whole thing was damn near the best/only good part about the ending
The ending was good. The original lacked manipulation via death note From what I remember. The original was pretty was flawed.
the death note isn't supposed to be a book in which whatever you write in it happens. It's a book that kills people, it doesn't save them. It's not how the death note works and it's not how it was explained in the movie either. It's like writing "I will be shot by this guy but I'll survive". The death note can only control the person that is going to die and the circunstances of his death. I can see the ferris wheel colapsing but not light falling safely in the water because the death note said so. Also The ending was a little bit shitty. I mean, no one cares that a random guy just walked in his room and gave him a book while he was in a "coma"?
Wtf they actually did that? It's not the "Survival Note" smh sounds like the creators of this didn't even watch the entire anime
misa's character was completely ruined as well but the fact that they made such a fundamentally bad plotline is the worst
Man I remember going to see the live action japanese Death Note in theaters and recalling how fun it was. Maybe not the best but still super fun to watch..
i always knew cr1tikal was a weeaboo
Garnet Cookley says who?
First Moist Meter I've seen, actually solid review. Expected it to be more joking and sarcastic, and while it was that it tried to put more emphasis on the review aspect of the video. Definitely glad I checked out this series and gonna be watching more for sure
I had just finished watching the movie as soon as you uploaded couldn't agree more.
*Makes witty retort about Netflix's name in the Death Note book*
The thing about ricki-oh's movie was that it followed the manga very closely. Like there's one scene where one of the villains cuts his guts out to choke riki. That happened in the manga. If you haven't checked riki-oh i highly recommend it. Also watch Hokuto no ken if you haven't :-)
Love your vids man keep up the great work
I really appreciate these videos
The only thing good about the movie was Ryuk, who i think was pretty fucking scary compares to the anime's Ryuk, and L. Yes he was black, but the actor who played L was pretty fucking amazing. 3/10 movie
xFade26 I rated the movie the same lmao
*Solutions They Could Had Done* : - Find an Asian that speaks English - L was black in the movie.. should've been Asian if it's similar to the show -- although his acting was similar to L but he was angry, while L in the anime was calm and smart. - Mia should've been Asian too, lol. And she should've been called MISA, Along with the fact she was obsessed with Light in the anime NOT the book and not killing Light. BONUS: potato chips *Movie 3/10 because Ryuk was cool, the suicide and blood was cool. L was better than Light and Mia lol. Everything was wack.*
You essentially made the same points and gave the same rating as Charlie lmao. And I'm assuming you commented before watching so that's pretty interesting to see the consistency in the reviews.
xFade26 I didn't care if L was black or Asian, I only cared about how the character was gonna do and it was bad. There situations that L would never do at all like chase down light with gun
Jamayia G. you do realize that L wasn't asain not everyone in anime is asain he is actually European actually
The kira in the anime is how otakus sees themselves. The kira in this movie is how people sees the otakus.
I've been waiting for this video
Hearing the moisture meter fill up in the intro will never fail to be satisfying.

Wow! That was quick. Thanks for doing my request!
Well.. I have Netflix anyways so might as well watch it..
I'm Dad It is nothing like the Anime. You're better off not watching this. Lol
Watch it with a friend. That was the hardest I've laughed at a movie in a while.
You are Dad.
I'm Dad hi dad, I'm hungry
Are you back from the store or still there? 3 years is quite a long time to be grocery shopping.
they turned death note into final destination. Netflix needs to sudoku after this mess
Sudoku…? Either you want 'em to do a number search or the word you're looking for is *seppuku*
OH THANK LORDIES YOU MADE A VIDEO ON THIS. *leans on leather couch and smirks* I've been waiting
Dude.....I respect you so much because of that review. I mean I like that you spoke of it, completely not in the context of it being an adaption. Totally neutral and objective of the quality of the movie. I think me and a lot of other people want to rank it lower because yeah we're comparing it to the anime, and it's because every single moment in this movie is an example of how much better it could have been if they'd followed simple, core, themes and staples of the anime/manga. And for someone who's never seen the anime and can't compare it to this, will probably not think it's as bad as we do
I feel bad for the guy that played L, I've never seen the anime but you could really tell he was trying to respect the source material (because he's so much more cartoon-y than all the other characters), but that ended up coming across really weird. However, from what I've seen of the actor I know that he's pretty good
Skeet on your feet and hit that yeet
This is less "Death Note" and more "Final Destination if Death was an actual character."
Omg you did it. I left a comment on the last moist meter that you should do this one.
that ain' L that's a generic sound cloud rapper
Only good thing that happened out of this version... William Dafoe.
Your reviews are actually heeps good man, quite viable and not just for laughs.
i agree 100% with you charlie. good moisture material as always
not banned worldwide yet
Wanna hear a joke? Netflix
i always love these reviews because its no bs and to the point.like everything penguin does
"It feels like a ton is left out" Yeah it's almost like they were compressing a 12-to-13-hour story into 90 minutes or something.
This is an example of why anime should stay anime
THIS MOVIE WAS SO BAD, I HAD TO REWATCH THE ANIME TO RESTORE FAITH IN HUMANITY!!! I felt so much better after lol.
Laughed out loud during the lullaby scene, haven't done that in a while
Anyone that has seen it remembers the all famous line "Two days? Your fingers are huge." The line that will go down in history as possibly the greatest movie quote of all time.
This movie wrote moisture in the death note
Basically don't watch it.
I rewatched Death Note... ending made me cry.
Even with Charlie’s usual emotionless voice he sounds more nasally this time. This fella recording while sick getting that bag like a king
Dude I love your voice.. No home
This was one of the first movies I've seen in a long time that had me constantly laughing at its stupidity. So much dumb shit that makes little to no sense happens in 90 minutes that you don't even have a chance to process what's happening. If you can enjoy bad movies then I would say give this one a shot, but everyone should do themselves a favor and watch the anime.
I came back to the review since they doing another live adaptation on Death Note again.
Just watched it and thought I'd check out your review. I couldn't agree with anything you said more
They American-ized the fuck out of (Netflix) Death Note (or most live action manga/anime).
wait am I early. By his mood I bet its a low score.
I liked the cinematography and the visuals, someone on the team clearly wanted the shots to look iconic and beautiful, but there was nothing building up to these shots so instead it was just one intense zoom in after another.
this really does sum it up
is that the kid from the naked brothers band
taylor tracy yah nat Wolfe I think
It's not as bad as the rating system Netflix has.
You sound half asleep this entire review and I couldn't agree more
Your review is spot in mate. I had high hopes that it would be somewhat awesome, but, at the end of the day, I found it was worth watching once, and yes, I am for some odd reason a fan of bad movies. Besides, if this anime were going to be done live action, it would need more than a movie. I feel the anime itself had a lot in it for how short it was.
Death Note? More like Board-to-Death Note. Because this movie isn't having any fun at all.
What's the difference between a snowman and a snowwoman? Snowballs.
Nanien Bad timing. Should have waited till Winter
Nanien Snowdicks, Snowboobs. I can keep going.
Apparently I'm new to comedy, I apologize and shall return in Winter with the same joke if I don't forget, which I definitely will. You've been a wonderful audience! *bows*
Snowboobs are better.
would be awesome if the makers of the original deathnote made a video showing the names of the makers of netflix deathnote in the original deathnote
The one thing that I didn't really like was that they had Light meet Ryuk before he wrote down any names in the book. The only reason why I didn't like it was because it made it seem like Ryuk was persuading Light to write down the names. Now if they had met after Light had already wrote down a bunch of names then it would seem like this was Light's choice and that he was really smart because he figured out how the book worked and the different attributes to the book before he even met Ryuk.
