  • The solution is simple. No foreign universities as well as Indian Professional Courses Universities should not be allowed to teach non professional courses like humanities. We have humanities universities like Tata Ist of Social Sciences. Open specilist universities that can be monitored by government. You have humanities everywhere including IITs is stupidity of the highest order.

  • On the topic of coming to the US because of reservations etc. I personally came to the US because in 2004 INC had come to power on the plank of reservations in the private sector and I figures there was absolutely no future for general category in India, and that I would go abroad to escape. - Sadly, reservation in private sector is increasingly manifesting here in the US under the guise of DEI and even explicit caste based laws like SB-403. - At the same time, India has really took off on the tech startup scene, salaries are actually competitive with some US cities (Bangalore was comparable to Washington DC even a few years ago). - Finally, there is a financial hit to Indian immigrants because we stay on H1B and are not able to do our own enterprise. Taking all these into account, young Indians should no longer consider the west a viable destination unless it's for some exotic field of study which just doesn't exist in India. For things like CS / IT, just stay in India. You will save yourself a lot of headache, you will do better financially in the long run, and you will not lose out on time with your family.

  • Mr Iyer and Ramesh, You need more study and understanding of politics. See the nice article by Derek Hunter at The Hill, to get some background understanding. Woke Ivy League Universities have suddenly changed their tune and are being extremely harsh on the protestors compared to earlier times. Because the protests are causing potential electoral damage to the Democrat party which much of the political ideologies being propagated out of the modern Universities directly support. Dont compare with protests in the 60s because those protests were internal and integral to the American society. Middle class kids were being sent to East Asia into a war that posed very grave risk of death or disability which directly impacted American families. The new protests are about a war in the Middle East that does not impact American life in the same immediate way. The same is true for the Anti Hindi protests in TN of the 60s. If you were a tamilian, you stood a chance of being shut out of government jobs because you did not know Hindi, a distant language. The ostensible primacy accorded to Hindi meant that people who grew up with that language had a large advantage of being native speakers while others had a barrier to overcome. This is a very serious, life impacting policy and it is not surprising that there was internal resistance to it. This is not the case in the current day protests. Therefore, it is not difficult to imagine that there will be no continuous traction for this excepting in some isolated instances. This is another reason why the universities are acting much tougher, on the premise that the political powers will back them. Coming to India, you have to deal with the fact that the most significant fraction of your voters are driven by immediate gratification needs often to their longer term detriments of security and cultural continuity. They did not care for security as much as for the governmental support schemes and that is why they returned governments all over the country with bumper majorities in the wake of the most horrific terror attacks, occurring live on broadcast tv. That was a ringing lesson learned by all major parties and a shot heard the world over. That is why you have the growth of a large number of tukde tukde and breaking India forces, who have surmised that the Indian voter cares more for direct supports than issues of cultural, historical or religious importance and therefore, they are willing to trade. There are interest groups worldwide who will trade you by removing your cultural religious and familial roots for good amount of doles and sops. As a polity, you have to deal with that problem primarily and see what can be done to fight this. This means, you have to be astute in reading undertones and how they impact your overall ecosystem, better than your adversary who is incredibly smart and has advanced political, economic and technological tools they deploy very effectively. For example, publicizing the impact of these protests on participants who may not realize what they have on the line is important. Also, forecasting how the technology of social mobilization deployed here will be used in the future to further interests that are inimical to ours is very important. Imagine similar sloganeering protesting, against Indian BPO providers or companies with ops in India, to pressure the US and Indian governments. What would you do in that case? Have you formed coalitions and allies who can help you then? Who would be your potential allies? Who would be arrayed against you?

    • Soroz, FF, RockF... Reports say they are responsible for these protests. These groups supposedly dominate university agendas. This convo goes back to the globalist big money players that control everything. Democrat and Republican establishments are two sides of their coin. This is the elephant in the room. It must be understood and addressed.
