Absent discriminatory analytical thinking to sort the content out there no longer exists a reliable, trustworthy "news source". I believe you should be interested to see what sources with known biases and agendas are promulgating. Having said that ... I am not, nor have I ever been a Facebook member. It always seemed a singularly bad idea on its face. Pun intended.

I got rid of Facebook in October 2020 having been with them 6 years. No regrets. One of the best things I've done along with giving up smoking both are toxic.
I got out in 2016 and to this day my account is just a couple of clicks away, IT NEVER REALY GOES AWAY

Facebook started to go downhill for me when I realized how apathetic people could be to each other. Like you are having a bad day, and seeing my closest people sharing their happiness like I never really mattered for them.

Got off Fb, Twitter, Insta etc. a few years ago. Been much happier ever since. Never had a problem finding a decent job. People I want to stay in contact with are those I still hear from or contact. Only difference is I don't have to worry about fake people and idiots having a window into my life and my social circle now consists mainly of people I trust.

Tech giants such as FB with an immense amount of power over countries around the world could easily be regulated if the political will existed there. I don't think people realize how easy it could be to ensure that political interference is prohibited, free speech upheld, and that we see consistency when the giants are intervening against users.

Two reasons I think, the desire to stay informed of what is going on politically, economically and socially, second reason is probably boredom! I myself want to quit both Facebook and Twitter but I fear that I may miss on important information and I also sometimes feel a moral responsibility to stay on these sites and share my thoughts and values

Facebook preventing any newssites to be viewed in Australia by its citizens is a very _good_ move - for the Australians. if 40% of Australians rely on FB to get their news, then something is definitely going in the wrong direction and anything prompting Australians to look for news in other places is good. poor Australians, first Murdoch and now FB...

This is the power of social media and the internet, and Facebook is a big part of it. These unfortunate events happened not because of Facebook but the existence of social media and hate. Online communication does not stop if there's no Facebook , and there's always a demand for mass communications. I certaintly agree there should be more regulations on the content put on social media, yet the difficult part is how restrictive the regulation should be so that it would not be silencing freedom while not providing plaforms for milicious use.
