Only in cinemas December 14. #WonkaMovie
Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.
From Paul King, writer/director of the “Paddington” films, David Heyman, producer of “Harry Potter,” “Gravity,” “Fantastic Beasts” and “Paddington,” and producers Alexandra Derbyshire (the “Paddington” films, “Jurassic World: Dominion”) and Luke Kelly (“Roald Dahl’s The Witches”), comes an intoxicating mix of magic and music, mayhem and emotion, all told with fabulous heart and humor. Starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role, this irresistibly vivid and inventive big screen spectacle will introduce audiences to a young Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time-proving that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.
Starring alongside Chalamet are Calah Lane (“The Day Shall Come”), Emmy and Peabody Award winner Keegan-Michael Key (“The Prom,” “Schmigadoon”), Paterson Joseph (“Vigil,” “Noughts + Crosses”), Matt Lucas (“Paddington,” “Little Britain”), Mathew Baynton (“The Wrong Mans,” “Ghosts”), Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water,” the “Paddington” films, “Spencer”), Rowan Atkinson (the “Johnny English” and “Mr. Bean” films, “Love Actually”), Jim Carter (“Downton Abbey”), with Oscar winner Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”). The film also stars Natasha Rothwell (“White Lotus,” “Insecure”), Rich Fulcher (“Marriage Story,” “Disenchantment”), Rakhee Thakrar (“Sex Education,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral”), Tom Davis (“Paddington 2,” “King Gary”) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (“Paddington 2,” “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” “Mary Poppins Returns”).
Simon Farnaby (“Paddington 2”) & Paul King wrote the screenplay, based on a story by King and characters created by Roald Dahl. Michael Siegel, Cate Adams, Rosie Alison and Tim Wellspring are serving as executive producers. King’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Chung-Hoon Chung (“Last Night in Soho,” “Ah-ga-ssi”); Oscar-nominated production designer Nathan Crowley (“Tenet,” “Dunkirk”); editor Mark Everson (the “Paddington” films); Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (the “Paddington” films, “Topsy-Turvy”); and composer Joby Talbot (the “Sing” films). Neil Hannon of the band The Divine Comedy is writing original songs for the film.
Warner Bros. Pictures Presents, in Association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Heyday Films Production, a Paul King Confection, “Wonka,” set to open only in cinemas December 14; it will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
You cant play wonka unless youre genuinely unhinged to some level, young timothy here hasnt had enough adult trauma to push him over the edge yet
waiting for the intense mental breakdown scene and the psychoanalysis scene in the movie cant wait till WONKA: End of Wonkgelion fr
Maybe he just hasnt spent enough time with the Oompas yet
nah he definitely wasn’t always wacky.. this is his origin story.
Amen brother
@@babyyyjulesss they're clearly trying to make him seem wacky but its weak af
i think for everyone saying they miss the goofy Wonka i think this is before he locked himself away and kinda went loopy and it looks cool to see before the factory and how he got his start
I was saying the same thing. This is a prequel, he’s pretty much just a very young adult right now.
idk bc it feels like they’re trying to do wacky but Timothee really isn’t selling it
Wonky not wacky enough for me. Just seems like a regular guy
Yeah, I was kind of thinking he seemed like a normal dude trying too hard to be wacky.
I think he'll be fine cause it looks like he's really trying his best to be a good Willy Wonka
It’s a prequel you uncultured swines, he gains his wackiness as he gets older and time goes on
i know about the girl
Dude lol this is before he became as wacky as we know him to be, I’m pretty sure him running the factory made him a little crazy. So idk I can believe him not being as wacky
A little bit of the wackiness of the character feels forced but im gonna remain optimistic for this film purely because I really want to like it
Dog turds have more personality than him. Hes flat and bland.
It’s supposed to be based off of Johnny depps Willy wonks I think
@@chaysespacheven if its supposed to Johnny depps Wonka was unhinged too some ... I'll be optimistic because I love these movies but im iffy lol 😂
@@willow6803 it’s his origin story! i’m pretty sure it shows what made him that way :)
This movie fels like it should take place in the Harry Potter Universe. Replace Wonka with a wizard trying to open his own wizarding shop in Diagon Alley.
George Weasley is Willy Wonka. Fan theory.
That’d probably be a pretty fun movie tbh.
Damn. I want my Wonka a little more mysterious/dark/quirky/scary. This seems like it's leaning more towards young children.
He doesn't even make a SINGLE expression in the whole trailer. He's good for movies like Dune where a little bit of range is not required.
See Beautiful Boy and Call Me By Your Name... and The King... the guy has some serious range.
@@TheCountryMouse I've seen all of them and he always do the same person with the same sad/serious face. Who the hell thought this was a good casting.
@@HoNow222I completely agree. I don't think he's a good actor at all and I genuinely don't understand the hype around him
@@TheCountryMousehe was good in all of those roles but these are all very similar characters in terms of emotional range. the only thing we got from these characters is that he can do slight variations of brooding/ neutral and upset. this is the first character in which he’d be able to demonstrate if he has actual range.
@@MassiveGamingBeast Exactly but judging from the trailer he doesn't...
The movie looks like a box office bomb in the making fr
This is gonna bomb hard lol. It looks cheap and boring.
My ideal casting for Wonka would be a younger Christopher Lloyd.
Omg yes
I don’t know about this one. Feels like it’s missing something. Not sure what though.
I feel like Wonka lost his quirky. And as if TC is playing the role knowing he's saying a bit
Missing color and yea idk
A point. It's missing a point.
It's missing a talented lead
It's an origin story...he's not a whacky as we remember because he hasn't been through enough crazy stuff in life yet.
My younger brother loved the other Wonka films. He passed away this March, wish I could've taken him to see this 😢
There was only ONE Wonka film - Gene WIlder's classic.. The one with Johnny Depp was terrible.
Go see it and I'm sure he will be with you.
@@dsscamI don't think so, it just took a very different approach. I have fond memories of the Tim Burton version when I was younger, AND the original.
I’m so sorry for your loss. 😢 As long as you keep his memory alive, he’ll always be with you.
How did we go from Gene Wilder to Johnny Depp to an expressionless impoverished Victorian child?
Feels like he's a wizard! Totally makes sense since it's the same producers of Harry Potter. The Oompa Loompa at the end got me 😂
You got it wrong. It's from *one* one of the producers of Harry Potter. You know the one with the huge ego.
I def like this character but it doesn’t feel like Wonka. Like it should have been it’s own thing. Not wonka but maybe Charlie taking over the factory. It feels too different
He’s different bc this is before he lost his mind. Wonka goes insane after he opens the factory and becomes “wacky”. This is before all that, when he was a dreamer. People change, and this is a prequel. So it’s def Wonka.
everyone is saying "he's not wacky or unhinged enough" but this is young Wonka, this is all before he goes like insane and before all the kids. this is when he was creating his empire and making a name for himself. before he locked himself away and went nuts.
Exactly
But i thought that wonka made normal tasty chocolate until he went mad as a middle aged man and only then started making treats that had superabilities
This is how wonka start to make his chocolates factory. Starting with his shop and the girl as his partner friend.
Fantastic Chocolates and Where to Find Them
I’m in, As long as there’s a scene where he’s sobbing & moaning “I’m sorry” while devouring an ooompah loompah
The quiet up, listen down line seemed like it was either the first time he tried to do a line as Wonka and was very flat
You just saw the whole movie in this one trailer
No. We didn’t
? No we literally didn't.
Wonka want to sell chocolate, chocolate “cartel” doesn’t want him to sell chocolate. They attempt to kill wonka and his friend and with the help of the Oompa Loompa they stop the cartel and continue on to create his company… why the hell would anyone want to see this movie? Looks boring as fuck
Diminishing returns: Wilder > Depp > Chalumet
Great, but do people still want to see Charlie bucket era as owner of chocolate factory?
I think Wonka is not wacky enough in this film cause this film is about the origins of Wonka, he started as a dreamer and once he got the factory start to lose his mind.
This should have been daniel thrasher. He seems perfect for this role 🤣
LOVE HIM
Should’ve been a Charlie And The Chocolate Factory sequel😔
Can't wait!
For it to flop?
@@JohnEnduro 😂😂😂😂 Guess we'll see.
Visuals look good, but it seems like it's missing energy/magic.
Una combinación interesante
Can anyone please share the music for this one. Loving it ❤!
Mr Bean!
Willy Wonka is giving me Spiderman vibes for some reason. I think they should have turned the glass elevator into a film instead of attempting a prequel from scratch.
I was not expecting to put a Wonka movie on my Random 2023 Things BINGO card today. Looks very promising can't wait to see it.
When is the movie coming out
Looks perfect, about time this story became a movie
There's already been 2 previous movies? Gene Wilder????
@@AuntieLuxthis is before/how he became Wonka and created the Chocolate Factory. The other two were after he'd come out of self-imposed lockdown in his Factory.
Look like chatgpt garbage
This looks so good
It's Wonkin' time!
Insane I can’t wait to never see this!
Someone please edit this to have the Primus rendition of Pure Imagination.
Timmy as Wonka and Hugh as a dancing Oompa Loompa.... I'm sooooo ready to see this!!!😃❤😊
Funny, 3 days ago I had a strange dream that this version of Willy Wonka took kids & put them into what he called "squid games."
This wonka feel so different.
Yo was that mr bean 😂
Trop bien !!!
I just really hope they will show that this Wonka is still broken in the movie. He seems like just a normal dude here
Why a prequel movie of wonka. Should have been a part 2.
Got to see this!!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It's supposed to take place in Britain?
The classic will always be better
WHY NOBODY TALKS ABOUT MR.BEAN AND PADDINGTON MAMA??????HUH
It's "strike that, reverse it" not scratch that.
This looks doo good
I really hope the Oompa-Loompa's mouth actually matches what he's saying once the movie comes out, because it definitely doesn't right now. It looks like he's speaking another language and they dubbed him in English.
fr cant wait
“remember, the kid who wanted everything he had to work for it charlie…”
This makes me feel old
Bro I'm so sick of remakes and prequels. We already got a willy Wonka backstory in willy Wonka and the chocolate factory his dad was a dentist
I love it so much ❤❤ can' t wait.
1:41 Mr bean!
Okay when I think he just not simple understand a oompa loompa is kinsa giving a bad sign. This feels like how they tried to make another Marry poppins still as whimsy and fresh with Disney. This is the same sort feeling and had not checked but looks like the same director but its telling a very similar price of the most unorthodox young man ruffling the high class business men.
Mfs will watch the trailer and assume the entire movie is wrong
I loved the original Wonka with Gene Wilder. He was a bit nutty, but he was sweet at heart. Never saw the other Wonkas.... they just looked weird and dark to me. This Wonka looks great for kids and adults! Looks like a great holiday movie! I'm really looking forward to it!😃❤
YEET YEET SKRT SKRT
This seems like it’ll be good, don’t know about the actor playing wonka tho
Timothy’s acting technique is reminiscent of a quirky tik tok star. Don’t understand why Hollywood keeps parading him around like he’s the poster boy for young American actors
Hugh Grant is gonna be the big draw for me
I actually like the less wacky Wonka because it shows character development on how he become that way through experience
Exactly. He hasn’t gone crazy yet and hasn’t been through as much. He’s young and a daydreamer, not a crazy wacky man yet.
Aint wacky enough
I wonder if they'll keep/explain the part about him that hates children
Everyone trashing this movie in the comments looks almost identical to the first Top Gun trailer comments. So many, "Boring!" "Not original" "No emotion" comments back then too....reality check, it doesn't make you cool when you come in and hate on a movie.
Harry Potter and the Willie of Wonka
Жопка. Ждём с нетерпением!
Netflix adoption meme is real time.
I reckon it would be great if the movie was to end with Wonka coming with the idea for the golden tickets that way the movie would end just before the events of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
This is too Mary Poppins when Willy Wonka should be Pee Wee Herman
I LOVE IT SO MUCH
I want to see the oompa loompa
an interesting take on the character but I get it
Sound of Freedom
superb movie.....
Does anyone know Willy from the Wonka (2023) movies last name?
I like this, but for better or worse we live in an age when we have a real life chocolate wizard (Amaury Guichon) - and it is REALLY hard to top him.
affirmative action as usual, cross it off the list
I'm excited for this. I love Johnny Depp but I was incredibly disappointed in the previous remake. I think I'll like this one much better. Though, in my heart, the original will always be my very favorite as I have so many fond memories of watching it with my late great-grandparents during rhe Christmas season. ❤
They got Mr. Bean in the movie
Johnson!?!?
Who in Hollywood had the bright idea for Chalamet as Willy Wonka? He’s cute and charismatic but woefully miscast in this role and didn’t we already have the prequel stuff with the much more talented Johnny Depp? I may just pass on this one, looks like a big budget flop. But I may just see it for Hugh Grant!
He doesn't even make a SINGLE expression in the whole trailer. He's good for movies like Dune where a little bit of range is not required.
@@HoNow222Yeah it's a trailer of course you aren't gonna see much 💀
This looks fan made 😭
he studied depp. itll be extremely hard to surpass him himothee but i trust you will do well regardless
Nah. I immediately could not buy him as Wonka. Seems bland uncommitted. I feel like most of the responses regarding this trailer agree
@@michaela531 let’s give him a chance fuck it
@@zacharybushaala5717 I mean I’m not saying it’s completely his fault. The writing for his character just seems off from what Wonka is supposed to be. Wonka seemed like the most boring character in the whole trailer! Compared to Wilder or Depp where they were clearly the most interesting character in the movie.
@@michaela531 yea that’s why I said Depp are huge shoes to fill. Charlie and the chocolate factory I can already tell is a way better than this film could ever be. I mean. Just going by the trailer. I hope the score will be decent. Sounds a little promising
@@zacharybushaala5717 I think it’ll be very pretty and well done in terms of production quality. It will do well financially. But not something people will remember on any scale compared to depp or wilder
No way
Mr. Bean!!!!
only watching this for my bae timmy
There's no energy to it
this looks incredibly harry potter esque
Mr bean🤔 I saw him
Is this supposed to be a younger version of Gene Wilder's Wonka?
Nightmare-fuel
Fickelgruber is hilarious for me as a german..
Willy Wonka? 🍫
I'm reserving judgment... but I'm concerned 😟
