  • Michael complaining about someone telling him to "have a nice day" is the most British thing I've ever seen.

    @natashabouran5019@natashabouran50193 жыл бұрын
    • Absolutely. I know me ma gets well annoyed with American politeness, finds it so insincere and unnecessary. Meanwhile me Irish pa loves it. Chuffed to bits when they tell him to have a great day and that 😂

      @peachesandpoets@peachesandpoets2 жыл бұрын
    • @@peachesandpoets For the most part, we (Americans) really are happy that you are frequenting our business or having a meal with us or just around with an interesting accent. We are overly sincere and naive at times, but you can tell your ma (if you like) that we are a nation of little kids excited to show others our room, even if it isn't the most impressive or clean room and our parents stole the house from someone who was already living here. We certainly have got some shit under our bed, but we are slowly working on cleaning it out. Because our society's history has been largely agrarian and wildly diverse, it was incredibly important that our culture evolved to be overly polite. If you have a German immigrant and an Italian immigrant and an Irish Immigrant all in the same space in the 1800s, they have to exaggerate that they mean no harm when they don't share language or custom. The "have a great day!" with a too large, orthodontia'ed smile is a remnant of that. Tell your Irish pa and your Ma that this American hopes he has a great day, in all sincerity.

    • @@peachesandpoets It's not insincere though, people want you to have a nice day. The thing is, despite things beyond your control, you can choose to have a nice day. When someone wishes you that on departure it's a reminder that you have the choice to be happy regardless of what happens.

I think Jack noticed it as well and he also felt sentimental but tried to laugh it off. It's true that the clock is ticking to make Michael a grandfather so Jack should get on it if he intends to.

    • It’s true. Jack doesn’t need to hurry if he wants children because it’s the woman who needs to be young enough to bear them anyway… so it’s mostly the woman’s stress- Jack can marry at any time he wants. But if he wants his dad to meet his children before he passes, then yeah he does need to hurry up and look to settle down.

    • @@sofiaguerrero0969 true, but at the time of this being filmed, Jack had just gotten out of a long and serious relationship. He even said that he felt like he “messed up his chances of getting married” and later said to his mother that he felt like a failure because he had to attend his sister’s wedding alone while his brother was happily married with kids and his sister was on her way there and he was single again. He is now in a happy relationship, but it had to be a bit hurtful to hear that from his father as well while still recovering from that heartbreak.
