Witness The Amazing Fusion Of Alcohol And Soft Pastel - A Game-changing Technique!
Witness the amazing fusion of alcohol and soft pastels in an exciting new way! This innovative technique is not just a game-changer; it's a fresh breath of creativity that will elevate your art to new heights. 🌟🎨
In today's lesson, we dive deep into the wonders of combining alcohol with pastels to achieve stunning effects. Here's why you'll love this technique:
⭐️ Masterful Underpainting: Learn how to liquify your pastel underpainting with alcohol, setting a dynamic foundation that enhances your ability to layer colors like never before.
⭐️ Vibrant Results with Fewer Layers: Say goodbye to the endless cycle of layering. This method allows for a more spontaneous, colorful, and lively finish with minimal layers.
⭐️ Simplicity and Fun: Discover an approach that is not only effective but incredibly enjoyable, making your painting session an exciting adventure.
The Steps Mentioned in the Lesson:
1. Use Soft Pastels (rather than harder brands)
2. Use a Water-Friendly Pastel Surface (such as UArt, Fisher 400, Pastelmat, Colourfix, etc)
3. Apply Local Color as a Block in (just focusing on big shapes and basic colors)
4. Use 70% Isopropyl Alcohol and a brush (I used a 3/4" brush)
5. Apply alcohol in Sections (Don't be too haphazard)
6. When all pastel is liquified with the alcohol, let dry and add pastels on top.
For this tutorial, I've chosen only the best materials to ensure stunning results:

Can confirm, alcohol really helps with my creative process. Specially when served cold.
Ha ha.... I get that. And just as a side note.... any clear alcohol will work with this painting process too. Vodka will do the trick!

Thank you for the video. ❤
Nice work❤ really enjoy watching you paint Thank you for sharing
This is an amazing technique. It was almost as though the under painting was a picture in itself. I have not used pastels and think I need to start with something more basic than this technique, but I intend to keep it in mind for when I am a little more experienced. The idea of liquefying the soft pastels has definitely given me some ideas for experimentation. Thank you so much for showing us this wonderful technique!
Glad it was helpful!☺️❤️💜
One of the most beautiful creation you've ever done! Exquisite!! 😍😍😍
Oh wow! what a great comment. Thank you so much!
@@monetcafeAnd I know Art. ; )
Love Liz Haywood Sullivan. Have several of her DVDs. Had not really noticed that she uses soft pastels for her Under painting. I’ll have to go back and watch.
Yes, she is so fantastic! I watched a lesson of hers where she specifically mentioned that softer pastels are best to use when wetting them with alcohol. Worked really well for me and I’m definitely going to do it again.
I don't know anything about pastels, but found your video by chance. I really enjoyed it. I love how it turned out especially how your finished work has a broader range of the beautiful colors of a brilliant sunset
Awesome @ashblack4351, I appreciate that so much!
Absolutely beautiful!
Hi Susan, have a question about soft pastel would a set of 80 half sticks sennelier plain air landscape be good enough to start with? Cheap Joe's has them for $116.96
Very, very interesting! I have been taught to use hard pastels first, but I have sooo many more soft pastels! Glad to be able to use them in my underpaintings!
🙂 🙂 🙂 ❤, @Jancass5

Beautiful! Thanks for sharing this technique and the artist. I’m glad you softened into curves, the straight edges left by the pastel, because the straight edges feel unnatural.
