Great race, but during the depth of the race between 18 and 20 miles, I talked myself into walking a bit. I honestly think I was physically capable but mentally, I fell a bit short. I finished, but I learned something about myself. I’ve signed up for Houston in 2025 and I’ll be much better prepared.

  • My wife and I watched this just now in the kitchen while drinking our coffee, me wearing my running gear (but not actually going out for a run, ha!). We discussed the video as it progressed and it was totally compelling. My wife remembered seeing a picture of me after the L.A. Marathon in 1996 with my parents and family friends. I, too, remembered how it felt to see loved ones just before the finish line, me feeling terrible and the sight of them lifting me up. I'm tearing up right now remembering that unforgettable feeling. We are proud of you, Sarah, and so happy that you had a great pacer running with you. Mo's positive attitude is the "angel on my shoulder" anyone would be lucky to have with them. TRC, my favorite KZhead subscription.

  • What a beautiful video Sarah - I was there on the day cheering on at mile 21, such an amazing day! - I started running about 18 months ago and you have been there with your content from pretty much the start for me - You're an inspiration to so many of us - I ran my first marathon in Manchester the weekend before and managed 3.46.44, which is something I never, ever, ever thought I would be capable of - That's stuff that other people do, not me...and all that kind of thing.... You definitely learn things about yourself in the training block and on the day. I cried when I crossed the finish line, although no tears actually came out, I think I had used ever last electrolyte in my body by that point! Fully hydrated today and you've just made a man in his early 40s cry, in a good way! Huge congrats on the PB - That sub 3.40 is there for the taking in the future :)

I haven't seen a better example of someone who is both relatable AND continuously reaching greater and greater heights. The quality of your work and dedication is evidenced by such feats as running a 5k on feel alone to within four seconds of your predicted time. You finishing with a PB was, to me, the obvious outcome. How could it have been anything less? It couldn't have been, because you absolutely earned it.

  • I am planning on doing my first marathon as a goal when I am 60. I am type 1 diabetic and have only ever run a half. This video is excellent. Really inspiring and emotive. It really shows how important mental strength plays a huge part in running a race no matter the distance, but a marathon is a huge achievement. Thank you Sarah and The Running Channel for posting this.

  • After watching this video I went and ran a half marathon. Something I've been training for for months now but never had the courage to do it. Thank you Sarah for a very inspirational video. The Learn or Win mantra helped me at 19km big time!

  • I so admire the honesty and grit in this. Coming up to my 70th year I think I might give another marathon a go, too prove to myself that I am mentally strong, Coming back to this video will be important. Go Sarah, you can achieve your dreams

  • Sarah, i listened to this video this evening on my run. A total mistake because i cried between km 5 and 7 (not quite the look i was going for). What a raw and powerful video and what a fantastic race. Glad you're able to look back on it with joy ♥️

  • Congratulations on a great time Sarah! Also Mo is a star with his energy and constant positivity. I was a bit shocked though on just how many runners there were constantly around you, I'm sure that must have added to the anxiety.

  • what a lovely video! I think every runner knows those mental struggles all too well! I recently went Sub3 and just told myself "you go with this sub 3 to the half and then you'll see" - next one was 25, then 30 and after 35 I told myself: you'll do this today, it's basically and already shed a tear. Finished with a negative split in 2:58. Those mental battles are sooo hard but it's so rewarding if you manage to push through!!

  • First of all Congratulations Sarah. I see myself completely in you. I did Manchester Marathon (my first one) this year. I targeted 3:30. Done very well until mile 20/21. After that my legs gave up and I caved in to my mind. Difference is that you conquered your mind & continued and I gave up & ended at 4:09. You are an inspiration for me for my next Marathon. I will get my 3:30 no matter what by overcoming negative thoughts. Thank you.

  • Sarah I followed your journey to LDN Marathon towards the end... I enjoyed the content THAT much I've signed up to my first marathon next year! (pray for me) And also put myself in the ballot. Such an amazing story! Loveed this documentary, the story is so positive and inspiring. Well done you!

    • @@SuperYtc1 840,000 entrants into the ballot. Chasing around 25,000 places. As you say that's less than 3%. But I had a place this year through the second ballot of 2,000.

  • Oh Sarah! I've been watching your journey, like many others have, mainly because I was running the London Marathon too. A wonderful video and you should be so proud of yourself. I love the "Learn or win" motto. I wish I would've told myself that during my efforts as I struggled in the last 6 miles but I still managed to cross the line despite not executing Plan A. Well done and amazing efforts!
