  • Matthew… I became a fan of your channel due to the fishing content…and I became a fan of Matthew because of your authenticity. If I remember correctly, I believe that my very first comment was about your personality, how it was authentic…and urging you to make sure to remain authentic. I love the way that you’ve begun to include Courtney and your girls in your videos. Family is important to me, and seeing the dynamics of yours is really inspiring to me. Being open about your faith is refreshing and beautiful…and you do it in a manner that is humble and authentic, instead of intrusive and overbearing. And as I’m sure you know, that is the difference between drawing others in…or pushing them away. Thank you both for displaying what a healthy Christian family dynamic can look like…it might not always be perfect, but it is perfectly beautiful…even in the struggles. -joel

    • Matthew, You both have a powerful testimony. The power is in the real moments when "stuff" just wasn't working out for you and Courtney hurt when you hurt and she smiled when you smiled. God blessed you with the perfect wife. You both are on a journey that God is leading. I love your heart. Continue to trust in Him. Just look at what he has done in your lives already! By every measure, you are truly blessed. I have been fishing my entire life. I am 69 years old. When I happened upon your channel, the first thing I learned is that I spent my life over thinking surf fishing. Equipment too heavy. Tackle too heavy, Etc. You changed that for me. As far as your retail, lack of experience. I would guess you know more today than you did a year ago. You have not let that stop you. I spent my life in retail. I have opened many locations for 2 large corporations. None of them project profit for the first few years. None. You have too many construction and start up costs for that to be reasonable. Having different income streams enables you all to weather the startup years before the profits kick in for your retail store. It's a small world, as my son was a partner in the original Southeastern prior to the folks you guys bought the inventory from. He showed me the tons of old liquidation merchandise that had been there prior to him taking the job. Based on the pictures I have seen, your store is fresh, inviting and will be more and more successful as time goes on. You all created a brand before the store came along. As your online presence continues to evolve, your retail footprint will continue to expand with additional locations. Fisherman like bigbox stores alright, but given a choice, they would rather spend their money to support locally owned and operated businesses. Not sure what the 10 year plan is for you all, but I know God has a plan already. I enjoy your videos. I enjoy Brad's videos. I enjoy Brant's videos. I am confident that you will continue to grow your brand and see success abundantly more than you could ever think our imagine. God bless and best regards, Dan

    • I totally agree with Joel. Down to the punctuation. If you are sick or tired of fishing, it's understandable... it must be a full time job just to do your videos... and with rhe store... well it's a hwck of a job. If you decide to move on frm fishing videos, I will really miss them. But the most important thing is for you guys to stay together in whatever you do. I hope you will read this and will be praying for God to point you to the right path.

  • I started watching the channel in 2020 during COVID when I had nothing to do, and we were planning our first trip to Gulf Shores from Kentucky. Ended up loving the fishing content and I learned a lot. What made me stick around was you though. As long as you stay true to yourself it doesn't matter the content, I will watch. I remember your initial video a year ago, and I really enjoyed listening. I think I ended up sharing that with a few others because it was a good message. Since 2020 I've been down to Gulf Shores every year now, and even been to the store and bought merch as well as get my buddy in Missouri to visit and he also watches all your videos and has been to the store. Basically keep it up, appreciate the good clean content. Love the family first mindset, as I'm the same way. Love fishing, and love listening to your sit downs as well. Good luck!

  • Matt, you may not read this but wanted to share something with you. I've been a subscriber since early on. Always loved learning about surf fishing from your videos. My wife and I take a vacation to G.S. every year for a week. We're both retired now and we spent a month in GS this past August. I tried to fish every day we were there. I only caught 1 keeper the whole time but it was awesome. SO, we ended up buying a house in Foley and will be moving down there full time next month, all the way from AZ. I tell you this because if it wasn't for you and your videos over the years, I'm pretty sure I would have never given saltwater fishing a chance. So in a pretty significant way, you impacted my life enough to relocate 1700 miles to AL. I was in your store 2 weeks ago but you seemed busy so I didn't get the chance to meet you but I hope to someday soon and thank you in person for not being ashamed to share that you are a man of faith.

    • Matt- your story has always been an important part of what draws at least some of your audience in. What you have had to say has always been sharing a bit of your life that included some clients, some family, some ‘not surf fishing… the willingness to share the screen with a few others along the way has been good as welll. This new path should be good, you decide how you like the new paths which will surely have some turns unexpected. An old canoe business and duck hunting wizard I knew up north followed a trail with some of these turns and learned so much along the way as they were allowed to reinvent and grow their lives these last 15-20 years… Do goood and enjoy it!

  • Matt about to create the "Bama Beach Counseling" channel! 😆 Much love brotha to you and your wife being such a humble, amazing, down to earth people. I too own a business for 12 years and you're right about finding the right people to help you grow. Unfortunately my business is going through growing pains...Lots of work but lack of personnel. It's having myself overworked and no time for my family, my free time, lack of sleep and it's effecting my health. It's becoming to a point that I'm giving this up and selling my business to someone. Running a business in an area where there's qualified or skilled technicians are hard to come by. That's God shutting down this Chapter of my life to pursue another calling, for the rest of my life...and it's finally to take care of myself instead of others for once. Money is not everything but have a respectable career to survive! It's also being with your loved ones and enjoying the little time we got left on this planet. Remember the time we have is a mist...before you know we're dust. I can live with decent W2 salary with all the benefits, paid vacations etc..and not kill myself. I'm not striving anymore to be a millionaire more of a pursuit of happiness. If it happens it happens by miracle. To me it's all about status and material crap to me! You can feel rich living very simple as long as you budget your money correctly, not going beyond your needs, and staying away from high debt.

After watching this video I have no idea what you’re changing, and hope you don’t change much. Run the best outdoors store that you can, the kind of store you would want to shop and still make money, and keep sharing your awesome fishing content. Can’t wait to see what’s next.

  • Matthew, long time watcher/subscriber. My wife and I talked to you for a while at your store opening. We have lived in New Orleans, our entire lives, but now we own a small place in Gulf Shores, and are really thinking about moving there permanently. New Orleans has worn us down, but our youngest is still in high school, and she likes where she is. Our oldest two are out of college. We are struggling to navigate paying two mortgages, even though we rent the condo in Gulf Shores as much as we can. This still does not cover all the costs associated with it. We feel the same kind of restless limbo that you seem to be feeling. We know we want to change, but are still trying to figure out what direction that will be. I also appreciate the faith talk. I have been a religion teacher in Catholic high schools for over 30 years. That is a challenging job in today’s culture! Looking forward to the new content and maybe even sitting down and talking with you at more length some day.

  • It is refreshing to hear you and Courtney talk about life and how fishing and the store fit into your relationships. You mention goals and ideas. Perhaps get into how some of those goals have not always been achievable but how communicating, and believing in each other through the love of the out doors and fishing keeps you grounded. I am fortunate that my wife likes to hunt, fish and hike. We plan our time together and with our kids through out door activities. Primarily hunting, fishing and hiking adventures. Not sure I would follow a Mathew and Courtney podcast/ story time series I definitely would if it continues to have you both actively fishing and sharing life goals while doing those outdoor adventures. All who fish and hunt with family knows that many times mother nature makes activity a lot of work at times and it is good for all of us to realize it is part of it. (sort of like reading a fine and pleasant misery by Pat McManus or any of his outdoor humor books).

  • First off, I absolutely love your show. I love the fact that you include your family in your show. You are truly a blessed man. I really hope your not thinking of discontinuing your fishing videos? Don't just become a pod cast type of show I think you should think of doing both. I think it's just a matter of changing up the venue a little bit. This would mean being bummy in other places and styles of fishing. Traveling to new places and learning different techniques and species. And can't you do a pod cast when you're traveling? Guess what I'm saying is when things are slow or slow down in your territory of fishing. Usually things are heating up elsewhere. Guess what I'm saying is continue doing your videos and bring your podcast along with you. Keep including your family in this process when it allows. Anyways I'm no video producer or anything like that, but I think what you're doing in your videos is awesome and very captivating. Anyways whatever you decide I hope things are fruitful for you and your family. Another thing I can tell you is to always include God in your plans. Pray together as a family continually and seek his guidance. And don't forget to give thanks for even the smallest details in your adventures. You have inspired me in a lot of different ways from the videos that I've watched. So one fisherman to another don't give up keep pushing through. Good luck to you and above all God bless you.

  • Wow Matt, I’ve been watching your content for many years to learn about fishing improvements with my beach fishing but I never knew how much your story is very similar to ours. My wife and I were business owners of a 13 year established company that was very successful and we had an opportunity to move to another area of our state to be closer to the ocean and closer to family . We had to close the old business, and opening a new business doing the same type of work, but a new business in a new market. This first year has been absolutely brutal. However, God’s faithfulness has been holding us through and I believe his word to us is to just hold the course. We love watching you guys and I really appreciate it. It’s a good channel that I can watch with my kids knowing that it will be good clean contact. thanks for all the hard work you put into it. I am a native born Floridian, but I now live in South Carolina. I would love to come down and visit your store one day.

  • So I'm pretty new to your content having just recently started binge watching alot of your videos when I have time. I have stayed tuned and continued to watch based on how you present yourself. Someone who comes across as kind, genuine, relatable, approachable, and not at all arrogant or condescending. I too am a Christian who loves the outdoors and all of God's beautiful creation. It is easy to spot someone who loves the Lord without them proclaiming it to you. You just know in the way they act and how they carry themselves and how they interact with others. In your case it is also apparent in the way you show respect for what God has created. I am fascinated by God's creation account and how it is laid out in scripture in Genesis. Many today, even Christians try to explain away the Creation with worldviews they have been told about all their lives without actually learning what God's word says about it. It is far different than what secular science would have you believe. If you don't mind might I make a suggestion that you continue your fishing videos (maybe even some other outdoor venues as well) with a special emphasis on God's creation and how special it is and the truth about how it all came to be in the beginning and how it all changed after the fall and also changed during and after the flood. Also the impact it has had on your lives. Genesis' Creation account is fundamental to the Gospel of Christ and I'm not sure many realize how important it is for Christians to read it literally. Not to mention how many more lost people could be reached by the love of Christ if they were only convinced that they were an intelligently designed part of God's creation and have a purpose instead of a random occurrence of evolution. Sorry, but I am passionate about this topic and I also love fishing. Lol. Keep up the good work. I will continue watching. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and time outdoors.

Many of us continue "Paying the Bills" due to choice or family commitment. I did. Regret that decision a little... but at the end do not. My point is, THOSE LIFE Crossroads are Lonely and Afraid. If you have a Partner on a "Helpful Path" also... that is truly a gift. I did not. Got divorced, lost (and re-deemed my kids back)... but LIFE IS hard and unforgiving for a Man in America. You are still on the path... But doing well and MUCH better than I was at your young age. (BTW... your wife looks younger than you!... That is good.. LOL) ... Luv this Guy. I have always enjoyed your content and your enthusiasm and authenticity. Your love for each other and for God is very present in all you do and I look forward to seeing what He has in store for you. I am liking the heartfelt content once in a while and wanted to give some ideas: maybe have a family day fishing, a fishing interview trip with people that influenced you or you admire, or fishing road trips to new towns or areas, and many more. There are so many people that just fish and catch and cook and don't do anything else. Some instructional videos on how you fish and set up rigs may be good for people coming to visit and vacation may be good as well.

  • I really like this idea. I enjoy the fishing videos but I think this will be great. So many young couples need to hear the truth about life. Everything is not always pie in the sky, but through communication you can make it through anything. I like what you said about not being comfortable when you’re not together. That’s the way I felt about my wife. I was blessed with 36 years shared with my soulmate. We both worked until health issues caused us not to be able to. Unfortunately my wife submitted to the complications of diabetes, and 15 years of dialysis. If it were not for our faith, and communication, we probably would not have made it. Continue to communicate with each other, and trust the Lord in all you do. Looking forward to see what the future holds for you all.

  • Matthew and Courtney.....we all have probelms so younare nkt alone. I struggle every day after losing my parrents. I lost mom back in 2003 but I had my dad to watch over so that in istself help me get through my mothers passing. In 2011, I lost my father which was 88 and a ww2 vetran who landed on Omaha beach in normandy. Once Dad passed, I no longer had that shoulder to lean on. There is not a day that goes by that I dont think about them. I still have bouts with sadness but what gets me through it is my parrents grew up in the depression and had it much harder then me and even you and your wife. My mom would always tell me that if I looked over my left shoulder there would always be somebody out there that had it much worse. You guys have your health....a beutiful baby girl....a successful business and channel. Whe. You get in those dark momments look back to where you were and where you are now and you should be able to see the positive. We all go through depression at times and yes even anxiety. With God on your side, your loving wife and beutiful little girl and now a successful business.....concentrate on that and realize how lucky you are. As you have said in your past videos.....God has a plan for all of us and we must stand back and let him direct us along the way and follow his plan. One of the hardest things I have had to deal with is why does God allow certain things to happen and the only thing that puts me at piece is bad things happen to the just and unjust. I have basically thrown my hands up and have stopped questioning why things happen and basically let God handle everything. We are only here kn the earth for a short time so in my opinion we should always put our trust in God, help those who cannot help themselves and love even our enemies. I am not much of a religious person but in my heart I feel those qualities are what God wants each of us to do. Run your life, your business like God wants to run them. One of the most important things you can do is give back more then you recieve and the oportunities will be endless. I enjoy your channel, your content and your honesty. You will go far in life Matthew and dont look back. You have done so well and in my heart you will continue to well.....just keep and eye on Brent and Brad......those guys are trouble! Joking aside they are part of your success. Think the world of both of them....and even camera man! God bless to you Matthew. God bless to you Courtney. Keep loving each other through the successful times and the tough times.... I have been married 30 years now and it hasnt been easy. I will say I am the man I am today because of my wife. She is my soul mate and had pulled me out of dark times many times. I owe my life to her.

  • Matthew, I wish I had your email because I could write a BOOK on how God has used your testimonial as a catalyst in MY life, at the young age of 59 to embark on a journey in the world of business that my closest (and very successful) friend has been after me to do FOR YEARS! I listened to your testimony a little over a month ago and am SHOCKED how the Lord used it to give revelation and light a fire under my butt that has me leaving the "comfort zone" of my apartment tomorrow morning for Chicago to attend a powerful business conference that hopefully will put me on a much different path than I'm on now! FYI this March my buddy and his family and my daughter and I plan on renting a condo in Gulf Shores, AL where I indent to walk into your store and buy me one of those Halco Roosta Poppers and hopefully meet you in the flesh. ;) Thank you brother, for your faithfulness. Your brother just 1243.5 miles north of you. ;) Jeff,

  • Let down isn't in God's vocabulary, as let down was created by and then followed by man. Roughing the seas, with praying for a better day/life is only given when God sees that you can handle each blessing. He is the God of No failure!

I don’t think it’s bad to do both … I watch all kinds of fishing channels … I like the ones that teach you all things , like how to cut up the fish and how to cook it … you can expand within your videos to make them much more enjoyable… I love 30 min videos to 50 min videos… there are some channels you can learn from … blue gabe is amazing… keep up the hard work brother… you have something here 🏆👍👍😁🙏

  • Honestly do what makes you happy and it will show in your final product. For me personally some of the best conversations about life in general, the future, the past and about things that matter only because they dont matter are on long car rides and while fishing a slow or no bite day.

  • My least favorite content personally is content that is always showing success. I get some flack for showing my failures, but God calls us for something bigger than ourselves. It's amazing how much we can all relate in our failures and if that helps 1 person find peace and joy, it has more purpose than all the shocking and shiny vids entertaining thousands

  • I was an occasional viewer prior to that video you made about a year ago. That made me subscribe. I think you're correct that a big reason for the popularity of that viseo is that people have a desire/need for authenticity. But I think the bigger reason is that we live in a world that's increasing more desperate for Jesus Christ, and many people want/need to hear about that. Just keep being real, and continue to openly share your faith when the opportunity presents itself.

I enjoy your posts and believe I have become a better fisherman from watching them. I will continue to follow you in the future. I pray a Blessing upon you that God will bless you both individually and as a family and that He will bless your business and use you to reach others for the kingdom of God. Thanks again for sharing your hearts today. Your Brother of the Hook, Jim

  • You must remember that the only thing you can do in life is to follow what you feel is the leading of God. That is the only way to truly live with complete contentment. Only when you are following the will of God are you at peace within yourself. This is something I have learned in my own life and can speak of with confidence. All the best to you and your family going forward from this place of change.

  • So watched the whole video, a little confused on the message. At the end of the day it’s your channel and please do whatever makes you happy. A good balance of fishing and talking videos wouldn’t hurt, I think if you just make this videos you like your true fans will follow. Make videos of new products in the store, make videos of podcasts from the booth in the store, and also make fishing videos we who follow you would love to see that. But most importantly, despite what we think, do what makes you happy.
