  • Ryan, I quite like some of the little historical accuracies here. I makes sense for him to be a bit of a stooge with his money. This was a time when the GDPPC (Gross Domestic Product Per Capita) was less than $3,000 (compared to $76,000 in 2023), and the average American working a 9-5 only made a thousand or so dollars per year. I imagine as an entrepreneur/independent business (and i will make it clear - as a Hispanic man in the 1950s - it was an extremely less tolerant time), us asking him for a $100 investment in a business he may not be the most confident in is like asking him for his monthly income to which he may not get a return on. The comment about pesticides is pretty accurate for the time too, given this was after World War II and in the early fledgling days of the Cold War where America was exporting a butt ton of food to Europe to keep them afloat and safe from the Soviets, most farmers were adopting the commercial methods (where they are farming for more then just themselves and their family, known as subsistence farming) to account for this. How do you produce a butt ton of crops to make a butt ton of money? I think you can answer the question there. The comment about the FDA? Also accurate. American citizens always questioned the actions of the federal government, and the FDA trying to tell farmers and corporations what they could or could not use? A big shock and no-no for the time! Many didn't think the feds or the government should be getting involved in this, in their lives like that. (That's called foreshadowing!) His regular comments about different technologies comparing newspapers to smartphone or televised devices is also very accurate as the 1950s were a time of massive change. (Remember by the mid 60s television was actually more of a rich man's commodity) Judging by the characters age (late 20s, early to mid 30s) he was likely born in the 1920s to early 1930s and given the life span there's a good chance he'll be an old man or dead before some of these things are invented. It gives the idea that we the listener are an industrial visionary with many aspirations, whether it be Dunkin Donuts or immediate news, compared to this man who doesn't readily want to accept those ideas. This is what we call in the human geography field a "societal conservative". I will say the only thing that surprised me was that he readily accepted rock and roll music (which was still a niche more "liberal" music genre that didn't catch on until the Beatles in the 1960s. While the video lays out some interesting lore for the Ryan Gutierrez Cinematic Universe, I personally was very happy with all of the accurate niche details that most content creators would leave out or not conduct research in. I don't know if Ryan conducted some research beforehand or if he just winged it, but it played off to a historical stooge like me XD. Great work as always Ryan, 10/10 Sincerely, -A 1950s/Cold War culture and history nut & human geography major from the deadlands of Indiana
