Lyrics below:
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm gettin' old, and I need something to rely on
So, tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm gettin' tired, and I need somewhere to begin
I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm gettin' old, and I need something to rely on
So, tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm gettin' tired, and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute, why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So, why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know
Oh, simple thing, where have you gone?
I'm getting old, and I need something to rely on
So, tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired, and I need somewhere to begin
And if you have a minute, why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So, why don't we go?
So, why don't we go?
Ooh, hey, hey
Oh-oh-oh
This could be the end of everything
So, why don't we go somewhere only we know?
Somewhere only we know
Somewhere only we know

  • When you are getting old and looking back, you realize things were simple back then, you wanted to embrace those times but you cannot get the time you already lost, everything is a memory now and you wanted to visit the place only you know and reminisce the memories you had in that place with those you loved deeply. Edit: the first time i have reached 1k likes, thanks.

  • This is my mum's favourite song, the last concert we went before the pandemic was from Keane so we literally shouted this song while singing. Now, almost three years later I moved to another continent and this song really hits me because that 'somewhere' was next to her, I miss her so much even I do video-calls with her everyday.

  • This is the only song I ever burst into tears upon hearing for the first time. A haunting tune for what for me, was an extremely haunting time. Suffice to say, it had to do with a woman that contained everything I would have dared to ask GOD for. And it ended. And about one hour after I realized it truly was over, this song came on the radio. I remember thinking, "Someone out there knows how it goes". That was 15 years ago. And I dream about her, I think about her, every time I look at the digital clock it is her birthday....and there was a place somewhere only we knew.

I still think about him but I'm happy in my life and happy for his life now but there will forever always be a connection with the person that you grew up with. A person you can finish each other's sentences. That is irreplaceable. Simple it was & why it meant so much.

    • This is so well written. I’ve been thinking randomly about this song and decided to relisten to it. The lyrics started to make sense for me as an invitation to an old lover to come back to a place only they know. I was thinking about this girl I hadn’t seen in years but that I still long for among others as if the song could be used as a way to ask for a first and probably last walk together. Broken couples have shared memories. Loners like me have only the bitterness and aching inside their broken and empty heart.

    • Sometimes, especially in the past. Now I find this song ecstastically joyful and exhilarating. That's the impact of the Holy Spirit on me and residing in the song, having taken the talents of Keane and helped raise them to a greater next level. He does that, thanks to God's love and forgiveness and mercy that pervades the universe; and I love Him for doing it - we are shown the way to a better world, and a better way of living. It's not so hard to say yes to it.

    • It's not by chance that you write "omg". What you feel is indeed thanks to God and His Holy Spirit as co-inspirers (with Keane) of this song; and as perpetuaters of the love and forgiveness and mercy that live (will live forever) in the words and music. A sad song that takes us higher and deeper into some kind of ecstasy. ONLY God can do that! And only he can defy Newton's laws to create more positive energy that you feel from this song, as do I and millions of others. Every love and blessing to you, Monique. I KNOW SO WELL the suffering you experience because of your daughter. I have been there. I know your pain and share it, and I KNOW Jesus has special love for us because we have to experience these things.

Sin dudas Keane creó una obra de arte que por más que pase el tiempo todos aquellos que conocemos está maravillosa banda sabemos que está canción no se va nunca y parece que cada vez que la escuchamos nos lleva a algún lugar.

  • "And if you have a minute why dont we go" let's share a memory with one another, only the two of us know. I saw an old friend of 15 years today, after not seeing them for quite a while. We picked up right where we left off, as if we were 24 again, when kn reality we both just had our last bday before 40. While I miss those times and how much easier life was back then, I'm so very grateful to have had the chance to make those memories. One day it'll be all we have. These days I'm more focused on making the best memories with my kiddo, so that one day they'll be able to think of me and the memories we made together and smile knowing they had that part of me that no one else did. Its bittersweet, isn't it? We wanted so badly back then to be grown, and now we'd give anything to go back.
