Project update video for this 1/6th scale Armortek RC German WWII King Tiger heavy tank model. This build is for Private commission and belongs to a private collector. The model was procured by the customer in a virgin state and was sent to me for the full construction.
This build video is part of a series that will have continual updates until the end of the project at it's completion.
In this video I describe the work that went into the mantlet revisions, turret side detailing, roof assembly, and magnet lock system.

  • Very well done build, very inspirational! I wonder how you did those perfectly round weld beads on the sides of the turret.

  • 30:25 The bracket on the top of the mantlet is for mounting a poison gas indicator. There are another two welded to the aft section of the turret roof. Cheers!

    • @@oddball759mm sure thing! I actually have a question regarding the mantlets as well. I've noticed in photos and reference material that there are two different castings for the production mantlet. One is stepped towards the rear (like the one on your build) and the other is smooth. Do you happen to have any contextual info on this? Model kits often have both but I haven't found any detailed info on the change.

  • Excellent video John, great pointers for this build. Wire retention for the acorn nuts is a great detail. Good stuff my friend. And FU to the thumbs down guy. Make your case for it. Otherwise let your balls keep shrinking to oblivion

  • Hi mate, I noticed you use the Dremel a lot but have you ever considered using a honing tool

  • I’m building a 1/3 scale king tiger from scratch because I decided 1/6 wasn’t big enough

    • good luck with your build. Are you casting your own tracks and machining your own suspension? Also what material are you using for the hull and turret, not to mention all the surface details? I ask because most of the 1/3 scale guys tend to cut corners and it shows with the end result

    • @@oddball759mm I didn’t know anyone else did 1/3 I would love to know who does and yes I am making everything myself and I have actually decided to make a frame of metal or wood and use plastic for everything actually the entire thing will be 3D printed and should be the first ever 3D printed 1/3 scale and with 3D printing it gives me a lot of details Ik it’s not practical and it’s week and a hole lot of other problems but I’m still going to do it also love your videos really helpes me when I plan on what I want to do for details when I’m done building it also I follow you on Facebook

    • @@REDWOLF_RC_ARMORY yeah 1/3 is a niche scale. Most of them are drivable where the guy sits inside and operates it. They always use off the shelf stuff for the suspension and it kills the look and turns them into goofy looking ride on toys more than a scale detailed model. 3D printing solves lots of problems with the details and pattern masters. There is a guy who made a gigantic ridable non model tank out of entirely 3D print. He's got videos on youtube and would be worth checking out since you will probably run into lots of the same issues he had to overcome. On using wood, just coat the surface with some kind of resin since bare exposed wood of any sort just kills the looks and leads to other problems.

    • @@oddball759mm yeah I’ve definitely seen his videos that’s what made me do it in the first place and proved it was possible thankfully you understand and if you still exist when I’m done with building it I was wondering if you would detail it for me but that’s way in the future also I can message your Facebook my progress because you can’t send photos on KZhead but that’s only if you’re interested

    • Thanks for the offer but sorry I don't work in scales larger than 1/6. Like I always say If I'm going to go bigger than 1/6, I'm going to buy / restore a real tank. Also I can't design details for things in the abstract. The reason why I'm able to make the details that I have is because I have the model in front of me so I can scale and design accordingly. When working in the abstract you are inviting mistakes to be made that are really expensive to fix and end up being a waste of time for all involved. If you want to send pics for my input go ahead. P.S. another option if 1/6 doesn't tickle your fancy are the 1/4 scale tank models on the market from eastern Europe. Might be something to look into and might be a better avenue to take opposed to being on the hook for the whole build
