People who have never watched all the episodes of DC before this moment do not understand. First of all the character's not a professional singer so hold your critiques, sheez. Second it's not about les miserable, it's about what she feels for Dawson. The shows dated now but in it's original release and having not ever seen Les Miserables before seeing this, it was a perfect scene.

It's a nice part of the show that was acted out beautifully. To shred Katie Holmes apart for her voice is beyond the point. She isn't Samantha Barks or whom ever you want to compare her to but she did a respectful job. It isn't a slight to Les Mis so there is no need to be mean to Katie. No Tony or Emmy award needed either just recognize the moment when " the boy finally noticed the girl!"

I like when they use actors real voices for when they sing. It feels honest with all it's imperfections. It says a lot about Katie's performance and commitment to Joey for her willingness to do this scene and be in such a vulnerable position. It's obviously awful but it feel right, especially in the context of the episode.

this was my favourite ever episode of dawsons creek, i fell in love with this song the first time i heard it. ok so in todays world of x factor and american idol the vocal sucks! but its the meaning behind the song that means something. use ur imagination people! pisses me off that people need to hear note perfect performences in order to be moved. listen to the story not the voice!!! : )

The writers do get that the girl getting the guy in the end totally negates the poignancy and tragedy of this song, right? The tragedy of it comes from the fact that while Eponine realizes she and Marius could never be, she still holds on to loving his shadow because it's all she has to look forward to in life, hence why it's called On my Own. By having her get the guy because he fell in love with her during this scene, the song loses it's punch.

The very first time I saw this I was so confused as to WHY the writers didn't decide to make her juggle or something else for the talent portion after hearing her sing at rehearsals because she just did not have a good singing voice - maybe its better now?
