DUCKLINGS don't have to be MESSY! We have a solution for that.
This week we got more ducklings on the homestead and today we are going to show you how we raise them. We've learned a thing or two over the years and we want to share it with you.

***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
Kevin: They’re no longer here on the homestead, they’re heading to freezer camp instead...” Me 😆
Kevin; they all should learn their manners and take their turn! Me👍👊🏻😜❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
🤣🤣🤣
I don't wanna go to camp.
@@brianeisenga882 😳
I know...I am still chuckling over that!!!
Pure genius waterer my friend.
OMG
@Daniel Fata's Farm I just subed to your channel. I love watching animals, They give such unconditional love.
We had ducklings hatched out by a broody bantam under a bush in the garden when I was a kid, she managed to cover 8 duck eggs and hatch them all, they soon outgrew her but she was always their mom
Were they still close?
Ours just did the same. Under a bush. She kept them in there. Wold not let anyone near.
Oooh...thx for telling us about angel wing
That little duck at the end wants you as his duck daddy 👨😍😂
That's what was thinking 😉😁
My first thot was “He’s got a new friend!” Second thot... “Daddy!”
I have made a decision in my life at 53 and for serving this country for 21 years in two branches of the armed forces. I am not paying taxes or registering anything ever again. I will no longer ask permission from my elected officials. They will seek my permission, and I shall gain my authority from God.
That is very stupid and not following God either.
@@mattblackledge3685 let me know how putting your faith in the government works out for you! 🤣
Keep the rest of us posted, we want to learn!
I kept backing the video up when Kevin was mocking the baby ducks in the water... hilarious 😂🤣😂!!
Thanks Kevin for the laugh this morning. Even my wife in the other room laughed at your example of the duckling head in the water. God Bless.
Me too! 🤣
Good morning from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Kevin, you really are a softy for those little ducklings❣️
I was thinking that very same thing.
Never knew about the momma ducks waterproofing their babies! Always learn something from your videos.
I laughed out loud when you were describing ducklings' behavior at a chick waterer!
They never change. The adults are even crazier. I never fail to smile and chuckle at them.
Hi from Country Victoria Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Hi from Geelong, soon to be country Vic too! 👋
Good MORNING cute duckling
Kevin has his box of quackers 🦆🦆 . Loved the demonstration of the duck in the water bottle 🤣. I was gonna say that is a mighty big hole for a baby duck
Good morning from NC.
Good morning from Michigan!
I laughed out loud when you pulled off the lid and found a ducky swimming! What a joy God's creatures are!
Good morning,from Jamaica 🇯🇲💛
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Jamaica!!
Good morning from California.

What about getting a baby gosling to grow up with them to serve as a guardian?
Two things that I find amazing. First, the Cornish crosses being ready after only 7 or 8 weeks I think you said, and second, you processing all of them in a day. You folks are hard workers.
Hope you turn those ducklings out into the orchard once they are big enough. They do miracles of pest control especially around apple trees.
I have been saying the same thing, chickens in the moat and ducks in the orchard.
I am sorry to ask but what is around apple 🍎 trees?
Around apple trees the ducks pick up the coddling moths before they can do damage to apples. Ducks are very good foregers for other pests too. If you have a apple orchard less worms in fruit with ducks. Some pesticides are not good and is better to use ducks instead of spraying
I shared this with a friend. The Autism Academy here in Az is starting a “farm” for adults with special needs.
What a fantastic idea, I love that!
NH had a state school that raised most of their own food and I think many of the clients worked the farm while living there. Rumor has it that people were thinking it was "mean to make those poor people work like that!". I was thinking that I'd rather be doing work and feeling worthwhile rather thanliving in a building doing who knows what to pass the time. I think it finally shut down - probably a land grab by someone managing the town....
@The Aussie Family Exactly. Plus the pride of their work. Thank you for doing what you do! It is Mothers Day here in USA, so a shout out to Moms all over the world!♥🌄
@@leemartin9156 one of the young men who will be part of this has come to my house and pulled weeds for me. I paid him for his amazing work.
Such precious baby ducklings. I knew nothing about raising baby ducks. Now I do!! Thank you! ♥️❣️🙏🏼❣️♥️
THEY EAT THEM! 😢
My parents had exactly that mix of ducks - plus a few Indian Runners - so you are bringing back happy memories for me! Harley, their Harlequin drake, lived to 13 years in age! They then got Call ducks - like miniature Pekins ... which were the sweetest little girls ever! They only had to hear my voice when I visited and they'd come running - they knew I'd help them search for slugs and snails in the garden they were only allowed in under close supervision! I swear all the ducks used to belch hard before they slept the night of the slug hunt, as they were so full!
Good morning from Virginia and GOD BLESS!
Happy Duckling Day Kevin🦆and Happy Mother's Day to Sarah 💐🌹🌸🌻. God bless your happy homestead! 🌺🌿🌺🌿🌺😊😷
Bbbbrrrrrbbbbbrrrr! The funniest illustration ever, Kevin! Made my morning, fer shur! Thanks for the humor!! And good luck with the ducklings!! JDB
OMG thank you so much for that! Watching it, I was trying to figure out just exactly how to spell that!! Made my morning as well, as I head out to build a hoop coop for my Murray McMurray shipment this week.
I have tears! Your explanation of the waterers had me laughing I had to rewind to catch what you were saying. SO funny. Excited to watch the ducks again. You picked out some pretty ones. 😃
You don't have to make a new watering bin/tub thing. Just secure popsicle sticks partially over the holes. When the ducks get bigger, you can remove the sticks to accommodate their growing size. Also, if you cut an access port in the top, you can refill it without having to remove the lid.
Best show on you tube. Kevin's baby duck imitation was hilarious..
Good Morning from Georgia. God Bless Ya'll....Love the Ducklings.
Good morning!
The duck that immediately found a way into the water to swim cracked me up lol Cuteness overload!
Happy duck day! So much fun to see them bouncing everywhere! Kind of cute lunatics when they think another one is getting something they arent! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You all have the best homestead on KZhead. I applaud your methods and admire your outcomes. 👏
Good morning from New York. I love baby ducklings. I live on a lake and get to see Mama and babies every spring. It is so amazing to see them swim in formation even at such a young age.
I remember when I found you guys on youtube looking for garden info but fell in love with the ducks every morning in your videos haha. I miss seeing them in your morning routines like you used to show us.
I miss the ducks too. Im sorry some of them have died. They seem like great characters.
Its funny when I think of white ducks, I always think of the movie "Friendly Persuasion" starring Dorothy McGuire and Gary Cooper and their pet duck!
Deb, I really love that movie!
Great movie and I haven't thought of it in so long.
We have a rescue goose with angel wing on both wings. She can spread her wings, but they don’t fold flat. The game bird feed has higher niacin level than the 18% chick starter. If you add niacin (brewer’s yeast) to the feed, they do fine on the chick starter, and you don’t risk angel wing. That’s what we use and our ducks are happy and healthy and able to walk. Some people might ask why not give the ducks a nipple waterer. The bbrrrbbbrrrbbbrrr of the ducklings is how they wash out their nostrils. If they don’t have a way to wash out their nose, they get sick fast. Your ducklings look fantastic! I look forward to watching them grow!
Wild mama ducks will actually groom feather oil onto their chicks, that way they float!
So stinkin' cute.
So cute! Happy ducklings 🐥 🐥
Good Morning from Cabool! Love the new ducklings!
Good morning from Bayport New York
Love baby ducks❤ Happy Mother's Day❤❤❤
Great setup! Also, they need b vitamins added to their water or brewers yeast which has B vitamins. It keeps their legs from becoming deformed. I also use an extra large plastic dog dish flipped upside down for their waterer. The underside lip contains the water. I love your idea for a waterers and will try that , too. God bless!🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️
Another word more commonly used is niacin :-) Places you get ducks from tend to not inform you on extras that may be needed unless you ask :-)
You can tell drakes from ducks even at an earlier stage than the curly tail on the drake's back. The drakes make a soft, raspy noise, whereas the ducks (the females, no wonder!) make the loud quaking noises.
Johan, totally unnecessary sexist comment. C'mon bro, do better.
@@lc9009, are you a drake or a duck? That might explain your response.
I always give brewers yeast the first couple months for the extra niacin as well.
Good idea, tell Sarah HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY.
That's a great idea for the waterer! I bet you could place a strip of tape across the holes, inside and out, to make the holes smaller temporarily. But I can also see the benefit in having multiple sizes on hand if you're planning to raise more ducklings in the future.
baby ducks like to play in the water. We started by putting them in the bath tub for a swim. They loved it. They would dive under the water they were so funny
Good morning from VA
Ducks are soo funny and interesting! Thank you for sharing!
I can’t believe how much you learned and know since I started watching you.
Kevin you are so sweet with the ducks 😍
I'm sitting here in front of the hoop coop that I built from your video
Mornin from Michigan ducks are cool
I LOVE ducks!!! Thanks for the great water pan idea!
Ducks are so 😍 cute
Love the waterer idea and will be trying it today. We have, are and will continue to hatch about 8 varieties of ducklings and geese for the next few months. I love my ducks but the duck muck is hideous lol You did not mention Rye Neck which may help folks also. We feed all our birds non medicated feed and the medicated will actually cause the Rye Neck in ducks and geese. Very important info. We are also in SW MO so thank you neighbor, from our homestead, great info n the waterer!
Thanks, for the info. I am looking for a dirt cheap place, would you know of anything for sale or rent. I need a place for at least ten years that I can have my chickens, cats, and dogs. We would like to get goats and ducks too. We make our own homemade organic chicken and chic feed, always problems with processed/manufactured food.
What a cute and informational video. I love ducklings. The adult ducks look beautiful. Anxious to watch them grow up.
That was a good duck drinking/splashing imitation. 👍
No , I have been raising ducks for years and I always start them off on an all layer mash 16% and for the rest of their lives, never have I given my ducks such a high protein at the start
That's good that you raised ducks and it's good day. I'll survived but it doesn't necessarily mean it's the best. It just means they didn't die... All animals need more protein when they're growing than when they are older. Health is the measurement ...not dying or living. But anyone who saves animals or helps them is good in my mind
So cute
Bunnies all you are a good _ Bunny talks mom real sweet rabbit visit Bunnies that's your youtube all OK Bunnies I like his little ducks so cutie Missouri I like your youtube videos keep them coming👍👍
LOVE those baby ducks.....great waterer.
They are so adorable.🥰💖
I love the sounds of the chirping duckies!
I give my ducklings “flock raiser” it’s multi purpose for chickens and ducks
I suggest writing 1 1/2 “ on the bottom of that first waterer with a sharpie so you will know in the future
And the fun begins!
Aww they are so cute! I found out a few years ago that I’m allergic to eggs. I’ve read recently that people allergic to chicken eggs may be able to eat duck eggs, so I’m hoping to find someone with ducks in my area that I could buy some eggs from to try!
I'm so excited to see this video! We have new Ducklings coming the first week of June, and Welsh Harlequin are one of the breeds we ordered! We also ordered the Silver Appleyard, Blue & Black Runner Ducks, and a pair of White Chinese Geese! I have fallen in LOVE with Ducks and Geese! Thank you for sharing this video! I really needed a new setup for the Ducks! I love watching them , never a dull moment! I can hear them now! Quacking and Honking! Thanks again, GOD bless
Gold Shaw Farm has lots of great duck info too.
@@kimprescott835 YES they do, I watch them too! I love Toby Dog! Another great channel!
I just moved my ducks from the brooder to the coop outside. Wish I had seen this 6 weeks ago! That waterer would have saved me some hassles!
They’re surprisingly very calm. I only have held wild ducklings and they do not like it at all.
I wished I watched this a month ago lol. The water trick would have helped, A-LOT 😂🤣
Duck's awesome 🌹
So cute little ducklings!
We have 6 Pekin ducklings. I wish I had know about this waterer hack sooner. I just had to move them outside today. We have a brooder in our basement but between the mess and smell I just couldn’t take it anymore. Good thing ducklings are so freaking cute.
Kids and I laughed pretty good when you were talking about the ducklings running laps and blowing bubbles in the water! May God continue to bless you all!
Exciting getting Ducklings! Yay!! 🐥
That's a cute box of quackers.
How exciting to see the new ducklings! Can’t wait to watch them grow up and develop. Thanks for sharing, Kevin. God bless.
Goodness, how do baby ducks survive in the wild without Kevin? God bless!
They have their parents raising them to keep them warm and to teach them!
Sparky much? If you listened he said they don't have the oils to stay dry until around a month. I never understand why someone feels the need to make sly critical comments. Just don't understand that. God bless.
@@noramarshall2629 for heaven’s sake people, I was just commenting on how awesome a start Kevin gives the animals in his care.
@@Jomama02 thanks for the biology lesson🤪, but I was just commenting on what a good man Kevin is and the respect he has for the animals in his care.
@@psum6537 one of the great things about comments and a detriment is that you can't convey intention with them. It came off as snarky....sorry.
Love the ducks💕🦆🦆💕
He's in there swimmin 🤣
I have had issues with Niacin deficiency in Pekins. One thing I like to add to their food specfically is a bit of Brewer's yeast.
Tractor supply sells niacin feed for ducks, goods choice if you can't find any. They needed the niacin for leg strength
Love watching the ducks!
So interesting learning about ducks....and SO-O-O-O fun! Grow well, baby ducks!
Very smart..... Soooo cute already an olimpic swimmer... LOL
How much did your chicken weigh when you put them in the freezer? 50 chickens..that’s great! Will the ducks be meat birds also?
They have a GREAT series of raising and butchering their Cornish Cross chicks. You should watch it all the way through! It tells all of that in detail.
@@wordvendor1 I have watched it. It’s very impressive. What I wanted to know is how much did this batch of chickens weigh. I was also curious if the ducks will be raised for meat too.
@@stokely418 When we butchered ours they were about 3.5 pounds, but we butchered roosters of different breads.
So excited so very excited
What a great, adorable video ❤️ I love your channel so much that I went through and made my own personal playlist of all of my favorite videos of your channel/homestead (370 videos so far) 😁 I definitely will be adding this one to that list!! One thing you didn't go over is that medicated food can kill them. The only reason I know this is because you taught me 👍 Thank you so much for sharing God bless
So timely, we had a mallard sitting on 11 eggs in our flower garden, unfortunately something attacked the nest and got 5 eggs. Mama abandoned the eggs so I brought the other 6 eggs into hatch. Never hatched any eggs. Bought a incubator and guess the eggs should start hatching by the middle of next week. Great tip about the water, I ordered duck feed from Walmart website.
OH!!! Love them! We used to have ducks many years ago...every nite we came home from work, one or two were gone...coyotes, hawks, whatever...no feathers, and eventually, no more ducks...:(...we have two nice ponds here now...but we have a lot of wildlife too...skunks, possums, raccoons, and birds of prey and coyotes...so hate losing them...we gave up on ducks...we did just get 6 turkey poults and they will be 2 weeks old on Mother's Day tomorrow...Narragansett breed...hoping we can successfully raise them.
The bucket you may too large of a hole on just glue popsicle sticks covering a small portion of the hole
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!
