Nice little tool. A bit more info: rivnuts are also called rivet nuts and nutserts in some markets and they come in steel, stainless steel, and aluminium. You can buy rivnuts with different grip ranges according to the thickness of the base metal. Also, the flange prevents close contact between the part being fastened and the base it's being fastened to, so if this is an issue, get the countersunk versions. If the rivnut is of a different material to the base metal, e.g. stainless rivnut in aluminium, use an anti-corrosive jointing compound like Duralac to stop galvanic corrosion.

Nutcert is not the same as rivnut. Nutcert has 2 pieces that wedge into each-other and expand the outer one. Nutcert is better to use in a blind hole, while rivnut is better for sheet metal.

Yes rinuts can be super handy when you have the right application
These tools are really handy for inserting threaded nuts into under dash areas, however, you will be hard pressed to pull up the stainless steel type with this, it also help enormously to apply plenty of grease on the pull up side, you can also buy the straight pull type of applicator which works on straight mechanical advantage like a pop rivet setter, stay safe ! Hi Chris - hope you have been keeping well - you have been quiet for a while ! You are correct those stainless rivnuts are much tougher to compress. The pull type are good but you need to have room to access.

Hello Simon, in 1990s I first used rivet nuts M6 and M8, we had compressed air guns for them. Are they new in England? I used to make interiors of vehicles, work vehicles.
No they are not new here but still they have not been widely adopted by car modifiers etc

Mostly bus/coach builders' trouble is the dam thin metal they use causes the Rivnuts to come loose. Thank god they are going over to structural adhesives a lot quieter and stronger.
@richardsellars it will explain alot, I am a coach builder/ finisher by trade. I used them when I made vehicles.

All you really need is a hard steel allen bolt, a washer and a nut along with an allen wrench and an open ended wrench. Hold the bolt with the allen wrench and tighten the nut.
Yes you are correct - the biggest problem is that the rivnuts can rotate

Much easier in a tight space where my usual rivnut tool is tricky to use.
Hi Mark - Rivnut tools used to be expensive but they are cheap now - this tool as you say is only really needed where space is tight.
Looks perfect what I need but your out of stock!
This will NOT work with installing the snorkel. It will not fit all the way through due to the metal plate on the body. Do yourself a favor and buy the actual tool on Amazon
My snorkel is still on .. but i agree there are more expensive purpose made tools. The question could be is why did Land Rover not install a fixing here - like they do for the roof racks etc
Gosh that's a sloppy way of installing a rivnut. Can't beat pneumatic or maybe electric as you push square to the job and NOT end up with a crooked thread. You can't always push your belly onto the rivnut either 😁If it comes to installing one or three you can make up your own rivnut installer AND use a nut driver - much easier and better chance of a square finish. Thanks guys for your efforts.
BUT basically, the basic, rivnut thats basically a basic rivnut thats also basically known as a blind rivet is terribly basic!
