    • It isn't quite the same, because freedom of speech is necessary for dissent making these particular persecutions especially egregious but in effect, people imprisoned for using substances are also political prisoners. Using substances isn't hurting others, they're just imprisoned because of the political decision to imprison those who dissent from the political philosophies that find that imprisonment convenient or desirable.

Snowden is not doing to bad. The state of the republic is. Corporate LOBBYING, weaponization of info and mis info, the climate I think are more pressing and if I had to choose which one of the issues people would do something about i would pick the issues that affect most people and make a list..     • Given his erratic behavior, I'm not too surprised. Glenn has these weird Twitter breakdowns nearly every week where he defends the far right and leaked private messages with Chelsea Manning to get back at her because they had a disagreement. He would throw Snowden under the bus too if he gets his feelings hurt by him.

  • Truth has to be told no matter what. Assange and Snowden doing what heroes do to disclose essential truths to humanity. They were brave enough to put themselves and their families lives in danger to save lives of people who they don't know, this is the greatest sacrifice and these heroes deserve awards not persecution. They did what journalists are meant to do. They have earned their place in history, while his persecutors have done the same but as villains and enemies of humanity. God bless all brave truth teller's.

    • Ellsberg did not go to Jail, as it, although shocking, it was not against the law. It is true that he fully expected to go to jail. And other dissidants at that time also expected to go to jail. For instance, Noam Chomsky expected to go to jail for his speaking out against the war in Viet Nam. And we thought we were living in "interesting times". Relativel to today, those were peaceful orderly times. A little "love not war" would be welcome these crazy days of common extrajudicial executions and prosecutatorial overreach.
