The PR chief in the middle of the PR crisis at Baidu is now reportedly unemployed.
It is the latest twist in a viral story in China that has hit a nerve with youth fed up with long working hours.

  • She acts as if she owns the company, but she is just another employee getting exploited. FYI, She is the mistress of Baidu's CEO's secretary.

  • S’pore somewhat the same albeit less extreme. Lots of discrimination allowed, expected to answer calls and rush work from last minute requests on your offdays, some managers or directors of big MNCs even made meetings on weekend falling on Sundays mandatory to attend. Why is that so. Because in S’pore there are no legislation or much individual rights being legislated to protect employees against such culture. Bosses can yell 4-letter words at directs and HR will often side management(HR’s satisfaction KPI is dependent of mgmt’s feedback) since employees can’t sue and incur any loss to the company. HR can ask for your age, whether you are married, have children or plan to get pregnant etc intrusive queries during interviewing of candidates.

    • True true. That’s the same globally. It’s just different countries have different laws. European countries are more liberated, more individual rights, but higher cost of living, taxes, crime rates and etc. Nothing is perfect I guess.

  • Science says people are only doing 3 hours of effective, productive work a day. Being at the office 12 hours a day gives face, not productivity. If a company wants higher returns, lessen the work day and work week.

    • With this type of mindset you will never be able to get a job at east-Asia, Work culture in east-Asia is very competitive, and not all position are innovative, however they do require a person to put prioritization on the company rather than yourself. Try leaving the office before your boss at 5pm in Korea, or even Japan, next day you will be fired. TSMC US staff are extremely angry with the work culture, while only the Chinese themself are willing to work longer hours, and same goes for the Taiwan TSMC.

But to most people who are non-management, work-life balance is important. Why? Just look at the difference in pay. lol. its 2024 and yet still got people like that... LOL.

      @XienRue@XienRue8 күн бұрын
    • @@XienRue I believe if there are people who think like that; that they want to work in non-management roles and have the freedom to pursue their life choices, then they should be realistic because indeed, the world doesn't work that way. However, i doubt there are many people who think like that because its just silly. If a company pays everyone like how they pay their CEO, the company will declare bankrupt in no time. LOL

  • It’s great to be dedicated to your work BUT do not do it at the expense of those around you. Everyone has different circumstances and it would be utterly insensitive and cruel to expect everyone to put in that kind of effort into the job. YES, income/career is important. NO, family and personal well-being is equally, if not, even more important. Strike a balance, there is more to life than just work.
