  • myPOV: m/t tyres with the new compounds are well suited for any terrain(blacktop to snow and everything in between), at least a rear locker to be able to move slowly thru challenging terrain rather than having to build momentum with the eLSD, the longranger fuel tank i.e. the TR87 doubling range will make the Jimny suitable for extended overland and offroad travel. Last but not least, keep the weight low & to the minimum.

May I please know the following for my new tyres: 1) tyre pressure for highway/tarmac use ? 2) tyre pressure for bad potholed roads ? 3) ideal tyre pressure for a road combination of 1 & 2 ? Many thanks in advance 😊

Tarmac depending on load 2.0 - 1.8 Gravel 1.5 - 1.0 Offroad hard surfaces 1.0 - 0.8 Mud & Sand 0.8 - 0.6 Roads with potholes , wont deflate too much , then you can pickup tyre and mag damage , so stick to 1.8 or 1.6. • Hi. Thanks for this video. I live in India and I booked the 5 door Jimny. Will get it in about 3-4 months. It’s the first 5 door ever for a Jimny. I will upgrade to 215/75/R15 but I have 3 questions: 1. Most of my driving will be in the city, but we do have bad roads here. Will not be using it for major off reading. So do you think HT is better than AT? HT gives more mileage and lasts longer I think. 2. Given that it’s a 5 door, do you think the 215 could have issues? 3. If you think HT is better, which brand would you recommend? Thanks a lot. Love your channel. You’ll be seeing a lot more viewers from India soon. All the best

The 215/75R15 is a great size that will fit on your stock suspension without chatching anywhere. Depending on what makes of tyres you have availible I prefer the BF goodrich , its a really tough tyre that will also give you good lifetime.👍

    • @@joshisikhagmail I have a slightly different take on this. I've had my Jimny for a short while, and have done rough tracks and even some beach work. The H/T tires did fine in this scenario. The traction on made tracks was fine even through light mud and water. Soft wet sand was a little more challenging but not any worse than a much heavier vehicle with bigger and wider tyres on it. You probably wouldn't want to go much less than 16 psi on the H/T tyres for sand because of the thinner side wall. I'll be using my H/T tyres until they wear out, after which I will change to the BFG KO2 A/T 215/75 R15. You might as well use the H/T tyres until you find out they are not sufficient for what you want to do or until you wear them out. I'm not against doing mods when necessary, however anything you do affects other areas of the driving experience such as fuel economy, stress on the drive train, and road handling.

  • Guys, You’re doing an off-road tyre test- on fairly soft ground…. And you didn’t mention tyre pressures??? Lowering your tyre pressures can (and does) have a significant bearing on your traction. Yes, I realise you were getting caught up on the diff and clearance was (is) an issue. Regardless, lowering tyre pressures will most definitely give you a longer footprint and increased traction. It’s probably the single most important thing you can do to improve your off road performance and it seems you didn’t do that?

    @AndrewJDN@AndrewJDN2 жыл бұрын
    • Yes I know , I decided not to deflate for the test since the ground was a bit wet , but we still had more than enough traction , and doing high speed tests on deflated tyres could cause a tyre debeading , so also a bit of time constraints. Believe me deflating and tyre pressures I know🤣

  • I drive a Land Rover Discovery 2 and some of the older Land Rover guys are obsessed with skinny tires and I tell them yeah to an extent as good but to them it's almost like the skinnier the better and I'm like no no a little wider than Factory literally is better. They take the idea of more contact pressure and they forget the fact that something more skinny digs in more because it pushes harder that doesn't mean it's going to get better traction. Something a little wider that's right on top and grips and doesn't take a hole-in-the-ground. Now they're the ones telling me to go 9.5 in wide and I'm doing 11.5 and the Jeep guys are at 12.5 so I think 10.5 or 11.5 is good. But 9.5 is ridiculous. And then they reference old series Rovers and Jeep Willys and I'm like yeah but those can't do crap without lockers those totally suck off road and what they can do good is because they're like just because the good old days had those doesn't mean you can bring them to nowadays and watch them compete without tons of momentum. It's not just a trend something wider than Factory really does grip more. Now if you look at really extreme off-road builds with a lot more horsepower they always go wider because they have the horsepower to move it if skinny was better you wouldn't see quads and ATVs with big fat tires for how light they are you would seem with little tiny bicycle tires. I get the idea that to why this bad but these Landover guys are insane like a mental problem wanting to put 9.5 in wide tires on a 5000 pound vehicle

    @ronaldrrootiii6040@ronaldrrootiii60409 ай бұрын
    • I think there are a few factors , the skinny tyres , give them higher clearances without the power sapping that a wider tyre can give with the same clearance stats. Main issue is , the Jimny does not have the weight to keep those skinny tyres on the terrain , and the bigger circumferance of the tyre still affect our performance , so not much gain for Jimnies with skinny tyres. So on the Jimny it makes sense that wider gives you better clearance and better grip , with the a lessor effect of power loss. Another factor is flex , the Jimny flexes much more than the loder landies , so we can drive over and through most obstacles with the shorter wheelbase , and keep traction with the extra flex. Nice topic👍

      @justjimny@justjimny9 ай бұрын
    • Narrow tyres generally work better for most things. Loads of videos showing this on KZhead if you look. You’ll also get a longer footprint and generally more sidewall deformation with a tall skinny tyre. Fat tyres have a place and can work well too, much far less places and terrains. Can look cool though.
