  • When I make the effort and I walk down the street I feel untouchable, cloud walking above the World. There will always be an individualism about the culture. Especially as I have never really had Mod friends but the people around me whether punk, rocker, rasta or ted show me respect. I appreciate that. The culture is more highly regarded today among other groups of people than it probably has ever been. Shows in the influences on fashion in the High Street today.

  • It'd be REAL interesting to talk/chat with him about "things"... but near impossible. He's a legend, a treasure and (like it or not?) the most famous Face of the movement. I have met him; and he was both humble and polite; I cherish the fact that in the moments I had with him? I was able to thank him for the soundtrack, the style and the support I got from him and his songs. He IS a very cool cat.

  • I remember picking up a copy of that Richard Barnes book Mods! and being blown away by the black and white photos of all the original early 60’s mods hanging out in soho . They looked so cool. I was never a mod but came across the mod revival kids that picked up the torch when the Jam came along. They looked cool too but they seemed like kids that loved the energy of the first wave of punk but couldn’t relate to the politics of it.

Not for the education I received in music, but for the myth I believed in that I was different. I wasn't. I was like a 100,000 other spotty herberts wearing parkas and tin badges. That's being one of the sheep. Thank my Atheist Lord I realised that I should just do my own thing and not call myself anything or dress as a Carnaby-boy. Weller could have done himself a world more credibility if he had just dumped the 60s posing and Modfathering and gone image-free, a-la, Talk Talk. Absolutely, Weller produced 3 of the finest records ever in "All Mod Cons", "Setting Sons" and "Sound Affects" but the wannabe-Ray Davies/Moddy Boy image always took the shine off him for me. • musical *DEFEATIST1* My goodness, you're an angry little lass! No need to speak to fellow KZhead user, Mick McGowan in such a manner. Some friendly advice, dear: change your tampon, ease up on the cheap wine, and stop flicking your bean to boring old, faded rock stars. There's a good girl:)
