Amazing: Lion vs Zebra with unexpected escape

We witnessed this amazing sighting during a gamedrive while on safari in Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.
The lion is hunting zebras when they are drinking at a waterplace. The zebras panicked and running off they create a dust cloud in which the lion attacks a zebra. In the battle that follows, the lion kills the zebra almost. However, the zebra has some unexpected strength and it manages to strike back by biting the lion's body and leg. That hurts the lion so much, it loses it's grip and gives the zebra the opportunity to escape.
When zebras are drinking at a waterplace, they're vulnerable. It's a favourite moment for lions to hunt zebras as they make a good lion's meal. Lions are well capable of spotting a weaker animal in the herd and go after that individual. But this lion is hunting the wrong zebra and has to let go in the end.

I feel like after the lion finished bob he could just go for steven, who watched bob get eaten alive and was like "pffft sucks for him, glad thats not me. oh hey let me get a front row seat to watch bob get eaten, now thats some quality entertainment. • Hi Mick, thanks for your feedback. We hardly made video's untill this one. The video is a bit shaky, partly because the car was moving at some stages. Also because we were so excited by the scene in front of us. Probably watching it through the camera's screen/lense would have given better quality, but we wanted to witness it first hand instead of experiencing our safari behind a camera. And like it said before, I think it was an amazing sight that all those zebra's watched the lion vs zebra battle so closely. We tried to capture the complete setting in which it all took place, which is quite difficult considering with wild animals you'll never know what will happen next. Overall I think it's a video many people will find interesting, which is why I shared it.

The Zebra drags it into a nearby River and tries to drown the Lion. The Lion lets go of it's grip in fear of drowning. Zebras are some powerful animals. They don't get away all the time from Lions but in rare cases they do. Good Footage Here.

Zebra population is bigger than lion, like pyramide, predator population is small, on the top, and the prey is bigger, on the bottom, to maintain predator-prey population balance.

They're all standing in a huge group like spectators in a stadium, staring at the two fighting animals, as if they have bets placed and have invested the last re-mortgage on their houses to cover it! Just like humans really. When we see a tragic car accident we can't help but stand around staring at the victims, the crashed cars, talking to each other; comparing notes as to how much of it they witnessed so far and how it happened or may have started. We're compassionate beings for sure, but we also have an animal-like fascination with tragic events and for witnessing survival at it's most raw....

  • I know your not a professional cameraman, but a couple of tips for your next shot, perhaps get a tripod that u can quickly attach to help you keep it steady and secondly keep it on the action and try to keep it centered. Forget moving the camera on the surroundings, pan out as an alternative.

    • Yes amazing footage! You can always edit this one also with soundtrack and narrating, it's a riveting moment of struggle for life and death in the jungle. Survival of the fittest, I try to be partial when i watch these moments, lions are my favorite animals, but in this case I really admired the Zebra's tenacity and it's will to survive. And yes it is interesting that the other Zebras don't come to his aid. Buffalos seem to be the main animals that will come to the aid of their brothers/sisters in peril.

    • Some lions, only lionesses btw, in Serengeti are being tracked for research and monitoring populations. Habitats of lions can be very large, up to 400km2, so the collar helps the researcher to track them. It are real wild lions, not kept in captivity. • I love how the zebra succeeded to get away by only biting the lioness skin , The lioness isn't that hungry or interested to risk injury with an adult full grown zebra , He's in his lucky day , The zebra's herd never group up and help one of them unlike buffaloes for example , Only young zebras get help from the mom and it doesn't happen a lot too .

    @MrFyce@MrFyce10 жыл бұрын
    • Why the other zebra's didn't help, I don't know. You would think with that many they could beat a lion. The lion isn't chasing the zebra probably for two reasons. First, the lion got herself hurt to her leg, she was bleeding because of the zebra biting her. When you look very closely when the zebra escapes, you can see the zebra lifting the lion by biting her leg. It's hard to see, but you can imagine it hurts. Secondly, it takes a lot of energy to make a kill, so lions only spend that energy when they have a good chance of killing. All the zebra's knew there was a lion and the hurt zebra disappeared in the herd. The lion wouldn't have a gpood chance of killing a zebra. Besides, she already spent a lot of energy on the battle.

      @LarsStuifbergen@LarsStuifbergen10 жыл бұрын
    • Because no offence but animals don't think that way. They would rather see someone get killed than get killed themselves. Plus I'm not being mean animals really are pretty stupid.
