  • Die Kelle in English is called the Ladle (not Trowel) as a trowel is a small tool used for spreading cement)

  • Mmm question about the fridge. The “normal” thing is a “Kühlschrank”, but the other appliances that tends to be as well with it but for more colder stuff (like making ice) how is it called? Eisschrank? Eismachen? In spanish for example you have “heladera” and “congelador”. Same english that you have the fridge and the freezer. Thanks in advance!

    • Yes, Eisschrank exists, you nailed it, but it is not so common as Gefrierfach (if it's a small refrigerator), Gefriertruhe (a chest/box), Gefrierschrank (frieren/gefrieren = to freeze). Tiefkühlfach and -schrank are also very common. Tief = deap; kühl = cool; Fach = too complex to translate, but something like compartment/shelf in this context. A Fachanwalt (Fach-Anwalt) is a specialised lawyer.

  • Ein Herd ist ein Backofen mit einem Kochfeld oben drauf. Also die Kombination aus beiden. Ein Backofen braucht kein Kochfeld und andersherum braucht ein Kochfeld keinen Backofen. Kochfeld/Backofen = jeweils autarke Geräte Herd = Kombination aus Kochfläche und Backofen

  • (my ignorance may be showing... perhaps "kitchen trowel" is a British thing?) When I eventually travel to Germany for my first visit and utter the German equivalent of calling a ladle a "trowel," I hope that Germans find me as adorable as we find you, Anja 🤩 So much charm... okay, so "die kelle" is the ladle and "der kellner" is the waiter... got it 🌞

    • 😂 Nein, ,,kitchen trowel" ist nicht eine britische dinge, nutzen wir ,,trowels" nur im Garten. ,, Kelle" nennen wir auch ,,ladle" in britische Englisch.

    • I didn't even know that there was something used to break the eggshell with. I use the knife to do that. Besides, there are a lot of missing words here: rolling pin-das Nudelholz, cutting board-das Schneiderbrett... etc
