Defence spending: Is 2.5% of GDP going to be enough?

Defence Secretary Grant Shapps discusses the prime minister's vow to boost defence spending to 2.5% GDP by 2030 and the Rwanda migration policy.
Former British army officer Colonel Simon Diggins told Sky News that spending should be closer to 3%. Mr Shapps says "the global defence industrial base hasn't expanded quickly enough to deal with the enormous requirements in Ukraine".

    • But they need to let them land to keep the MP’s with something to do and aircraft industry busy taking them to Rwanda and then the return flights. Are they still paying the aFrench to keep them in France. Just the same as the warmongers need to get making more weapons of mass destruction to increase the national dept. for the investors. The English are a rich and diverse culture who have money to squander and ‘ intellectual’ ( lol) Leaders/ royalty who tend to the poor.

  • So in other words Russia has demilitarised Ukraine and is well on the way to doing the same to Nato without huge amounts (100's billions) of additional deficit spending borrowing of Euro Atlantic member states govts (regimes) involved in the Ukraine War.

    • Yeah - doing what Europe wanted to do with NATO after the end of the Cold War but warmongering US/UK kept it going as part of the US military for obvious reasons. Are now squandering millions of taxpayers £ on weapons of mass destruction instead of improved infrastructure/ health care/ education etc.

    • Of course they do, They have ‘sponsors’, consultancies etc. while in the job so they will have slightly more time on their hands if they get kicked out. They have at least 2 mortgages to keep going, and suddenly have to pay for goods/ services out of their own pocket. A hard life.

    • The Tories privatised recruitment at the cost of over a billion. So recruitment is outsourced to call centres and the joining process can take up to a year. Even though they failed to meet recruitment targets Capita's contract was renewed!

  • Here's thought, how about we acknowledge that we no longer have the chest size to sit at the big fools table, remain in a neutral stance, put the defence money into the welfare of the citizens, close the borders properly to all those illegal entrants, build up a good gold reserve, become self-sufficient for the future of our population, we once had incredible talent for innovation, engineering, invention, yet the politicals keep selling those assets, we have no need to be global at the behest of outside interests.

That's 40% at the moment all the above is around 15%. We don't need to cripple our Australia but we sure need to build her up. If governments looked after their people, their people would surely be proud to look after them!
