Even if I did play an instrument, I feel like my hands would throw them off...my nails are random lengths (happen to longer on the right 4 main fingers now) because I just cut them as they get damaged, and I have a massive writing callous on my right thumb....the top joint is bigger and a different shape than the left because of how I write. And I have a callous on the top joint of my right middle finger because of how I knit.

  • Guys, let's make it clear once and for all. Lung size or lung capacity doesn't matter in wind instruments! It's the controll and efficiency of the player that matter, as well as teaching your brain that you're not going to die from not taking a new breath after blowing for 10-15 seconds.

    • I'm a not particularly tall flutist (1.60m), and this rule applies to flute as well. Yes, it does help to some extent to have bigger lungs but still, you can play long phrases without huge lungs.

      @user-jo1mb1rm4d@user-jo1mb1rm4d2 жыл бұрын
    • As a clarinetist, lung capacity matters. But lung capacity is more about training than it is a physical characteristic - most people who don’t have a physical disability can build up enough capacity. And you can still play well even if you can’t, but it will definitely be harder - especially for instruments like bass clarinet that just take a lot of air.

If you mainly use the top of your fingers to press the keys, like I do, longer nails on the left hand are really annoying. I always cut mine very short. Many people play with the pad of the fingers though, and in that case it doesn't really matter. The right hand doesn't matter either way.

I cut my nails normally for my left hand, but I need long nails on my right for my acoustic guitar (I prefer classical with short nails, but it's impractical for the steel strings of the acoustic). • 3:30 I instantly knew guitar, because that's how my finger nails look as well for guitar. Short on the hand for the fret board to actually play, but long nails on the other hand for strumming the strings. It's for fingerstyle, commonly used for classical guitar, because the nails give a brighter tone than fingers do. So it's like having a pick on the end of each finger. So not a trick, you just thought to hard about it
