May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we wanted to do a special episode around mental health and generate awareness within our community to help reduce the stigma so many experience.
Ryan Mundy, Super Bowl Champion and founder of Alkeme Health joins The Pivot to share his work in this space since retiring from the NFL.
RC, welcoming his former Steeler teammate, starts the conversation off by talking about their time in the league, their Super Bowl run and life after football.
Mundy talks about his experiences with counseling during football and what led him to purse a career and be an advocate for mental health, especially in the black community.
Fred opens up about dealing with anxiety and what’s the best way to present situations to kids and sharing advice for not getting caught up in social media.
Channing breaks down with the emotion he still deals with after losing friend and teammate Junior Seau to suicide.
Asking someone if they are ok and actually listening to the answer is a big part of checking on the people we love and care about. If you know someone who may be struggling, reach out to www.suicideprevention.com.
Join Prize Picks now to compete against Channing, Fred and Ryan throughout the NBA Finals. Get a free $100 matched with your first $100 spent when you enter the code PIVOT. Start playing now: bit.ly/PrizePicksPivot
The Pivot Podcast releases new episodes on KZhead and all audio platforms every Tuesday at Noon eastern with special drops on Fridays. Find exclusive Pivot merchandise and stay connected with us at www.pivotpodcast.com.

  • I was disappointed when they left the other podcast, but this one they created is 10x better and deeper and more entertaining all around. I could watch this as an ESPN show or something.

  • I'm also glad Channing brought up the thing about having money and being depressed. I've never been rich but people have this belief that if you have money...no problems exist, you're not allowed to complain, voice opinions, etc. I really hate that stigma and it's even greater with black athletes/celebrities. They're usually hit with the "shut up and play or stay in your lane." So I'm glad Mundy touched on that subject, he's so well-spoken

  • I love this podcast man…. This hit so many places when Channing said people that work hard don’t have the same resources like successful people. I try not to complain but when my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer (cancer free now) when it happened I had to work 80-85 hours a week just to make sure that everything was taken care of while she was fighting for her life. I’m so thankful we had a great support system, but in that time I lost myself. I got unhealthy, my mental is not as strong as it use to be and Everytime when someone said how’s your wife doing and they praying for her, I was thankful but sometimes the guy who see his wife going through it, and gotta be tough and just be a man and make sure everything is good. Sometimes I wish someone took time and told me hey you’re doing good we’re praying for you as well.

  • Thanks to the men of The Pivot for featuring Bro. Mundy on this important episode that focuses on African Americans and our mental health. The mind is such a delicate and sometimes fragile part of our being. It deserves to be treated with gentleness and care regardless of the person's gender. For so long, men in the U.S. have been socialized to internalize our feelings. And I believe that this form of socialization helped to create a great number of stress-filled individuals. Sometimes this stress caused men to implode and sometimes it caused them to explode. Either way, the black man needs to follow a healthy mental health regimen. And combined with a healthy spiritual life, this may play a role in creating a much better person...a whole person. Thanks guys. God bless the black man.

From personal experiences, education, important life matters, uplifting, the highs, the lows, the vulnerability, the entertainment. The pivot brings all of that to the table and I'm so thankful to be alive to experience this with everyone else around the globe. Thank you pivot team once again for bringing us all together to not only learn and educate ourselves but to grow together as individuals going through our own difficulties in life. Keep up the great work. God bless! 🙏🏿💯

  • I'm so proud of you gentlemen for having these type of discussions. Recently, I set-up an appointment to talk with a therapist. Lately, I've been feeling overwhelmed. Trying to suppress those emotions isn't an option. Several of my friends and I we encourage and support one another in mental health. Thank you for having those discussions. 👍🏾👍🏾
