- - - faq - - -
1. How old are you?
I am now 19 years old
2. Did you go to any art school or academy?
No. I took Studio Arts in senior high school. It's not from that class that I learned evreything I know. I did learn new things from the class, but not to do with fashion illustration or manga drawings. I went to a regular high school, so it doesn't specialise in art.
3. How long have you been drawing?
I'm pretty sure I started drawing at 6. I got into manga drawings when I was 11 years old, I started teaching myself how to draw manga when I was 13 years old. I started developing an interest in fashion design also when I was 11, but I pursued that interest or taken it further at the age of 14. So, I would say I started drawing fashion illustration at the age of 14.
4. How do you draw the models? Do you use any templates?
I started out by tracing models from magazines which is harder than it sounds, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. Then of course, I searched all types of videos on KZhead and some sites as well on Google, which unfortunately, I don't remember. How I learned to draw my models is using the 9-Head technique.
5. Where do you get your inspiration?
I get my inspiration from music, photos on Instagram, Tumblr fashion trends, things that I love. There are times where I am just in an Artist's Block and I feel really brain dead where I can't draw. Or I force myself to draw and it never turns out to be something that I like.
6. Do you have any links or books you can recommend?
Definitely! Fashion Illustration by Anna Kiper and Fashion Poses for Fashion Illustrators by Sha Tahmasebi are two books that I own at the moment. I'm hoping to get more. These two books are very helpful if you're a beginner or even if you want to be a bit more advanced.

  • I appreciate how direct this DIY video is. thank you. So many have the first 10 minutes of talking, rambling, tangents, etc which I find HIGHLY annoying. Yours was very pleasant to watch. I hope to make one soon.

  • I made it, I didn't have enough leather in one colour so I pieced three pieces together with copydex and made it like yours after that, except I made some holes on the front to thread elastic through for holding pen pencil and waterbrush, and inside I made a felt pocket for a card with blobs of watercolour paint on. I really like it, thank you for inspiring me with your video

  • I've recently discovered the Midori traveler's notebook and I became fascinated in it, especially since I recently began writing a journal (and I have a soft spot for leather). But, being the thrifty person I am, I wanted to have a look into the design to see if I can make my own instead of paying £30 for one off Amazon. So I found your video, and as I suspected its a simple concept with great potential. Great video, informative and practical. Now I just need to go around local charity shops to pickup all the materials.

  • I made myself one yesterday. I've been looking at buying one for the longest, but I can't justify paying 60 bucks for a sheet of folded leather given my current life situation. I found that spray-on adhesive is a lot easier to work with than tape and glue, but I imagine any sort of adhesive would work. Thanks for uploading this video!

    @Akagism@Akagism8 жыл бұрын
    • Akagism Awesome! I definitely know what you mean. I would think spray adhesive would work better, but I didn't want to buy one since I had the tape and glue already at hand :)

  • Think, maybe you could make the corner cutting a little bit easier. Provided your scissors can clip through several layers of leather/vinyl, that is. Fold the cover in half, then in half again, so all four corners are on top of each other, then clip your corner, and it will look the same on all four corners.

    • Thank you for the feedback! The one I made fits the Moleskine Cahier large journals (which has a smaller width than A5) and it was 22.5cm x 29cm. Since you want to make an A5.. I'd recommend making the width longer.. so around 22.5cm x 33cm :)
