It’s the brand that’s REVOLUTIONIZED the sports car - CHANGED HISTORY in motorsports. The company that took one look at the engineering rule book and threw it out the window!
And NOW! they’re SAVING internal combustion engines…
With a new ROTARY design,
and a sexy concept car to go along with it.
You know who I’m talking about - It’s Mazda baby.
And this is gonna be HUGE!
In late 2023, Mazda revealed the Mazda Iconic SP concept.
A sports car that suspiciously looked ALOT like a modern take on the RX-7.
This sent the community wild, with rumors of a ROTARY powered sports car making a comeback amongst an industry LITTERED with EVs -
But there was nothing concrete.
Now fast forward to January 2024 at the Tokyo Auto Salon - and it seems our dreams came true.
Mazda CEO Katsuhiro Moro said in a speech that
"With your encouragement, we are launching a ROTARY ENGINE development group on February 1st to move closer to this dream."
A dream that could mean a rotary engine in the Iconic SP concept.
And no, you aren’t dreaming.
Moro said he was “deeply moved” by the enthusiasm and encouragement he has received for the project, giving all of us car nerds a little nod of respect,
and we here at Ideal couldn't be more excited!
Let's dive in to everything we know about the new Mazda rotary engine today on Ideal Media. Let's GO!

    • This is honestly the best way. PHEV's are the best solution for most, especially when you consider what you can do with vehicle-to-grid. Suddenly owning a vehicle can be a new kind of energy independence when the grid can't provide. Most people can probably make do with 60 miles of range, so why put more battery in than that. 1/5th the battery in every vehicle and we'll cut out the majority of consumer generated transportation emissions. Electric motors are also the superior traction platform, so performance should be outstanding.

  • The 6port renesis already has what you called a "variable valve". It's not that as rotaries don't have valves. But the renesis has a hollow tube ( sleeve) that sits in the auxiliary port and turns based upon inlet vacuum opening or closing the auxiliary ports which are on top of the usual secondary ports. You can bridge the auxiliary ports and leave this sleeve in the port to enjoy extra power without the "brap" idling (sleeve closed at idle).

  • I think the rotory has a place in engines for the future. This just proves it have validity for other applicatuon. I believe the future of the evolution of wngines will be a combination of motors...not just one.And not just electric assist...but perhaps a combination of rotory, electric and hydrogen to power a new innovative motor.

  • Instead of the rotary as just a range extender, maybe it will be for middle rpms. Battery boost is better for taking off and passing, then running the rotary at a steady middle rpm to save the apex seals and not burn engine oil. It also charges the battery along with braking regen.

  • That mazda prototype SP concept likely wouldn't meet production looking like that... Pop-up's have been illegal unless they found a work-around. Vehicles need bumpers, at least in north america, which this vehicle doesn't have. Other various small things.... But I'm really hoping they keep with the smooth, no nonsense bodylines, a grille that doesn't look like it's designed to fit an entire cow through it.... Something both the RX vision and SP concept have. These bodylines make this car sporty. Not slapping fake vents on it.

    @Madd_Jack@Madd_Jack2 ай бұрын
  • It's just speculation. The Iconic SP concept has been teased as a successor to the MX-5 (even though this can change anytime). Even the engineers of the concept has told reporters that the concept can be shrunk to the same dimensions as an MX-5. While Mazda has already confirmed that the lineup is going hybrid by 2026 due to emissions regulations. Which means the MX-5 and possibly the next RX will be hybrid. We'll have to wait and see what else Mazda will unveil in the future, whether or not the RX-7 will happen or not.

  • The first time that I hear of electric motors controlling rotor speed and intake port valve operation/timing (a new take on VVT) for both performance (via longer or shorter intake charge duration) and efficiency. With aluminum rotor housings to dissipate heat and more durable apex seals, I am all ears and in on this one.

Once manufacturers and people in general figure out the electric vehicles long-term aren’t really any cleaner and they’re not as profitable to make. They’re gonna be right back to internal combustion engines and they’re probably gonna charge a premium for them and we’re all gonna buy them up like idiots.😮‍💨
