The Biggest Misconceptions About Gen Z | Vibe Check

    • That’s actually the reverse of : in my times students where more disciplined. No, every young person critisises old persons. That’s like the one thing everyone has in common. There are no generations. Just different aged persons with vastly different world views disregarding the age. How come everyone tries to homogenise people regarding their age when that’s absolutely not possible.

  • Hey Gen Z here... To be perfectly honest we fit most of the 'misconceptions' listed in this video. We're impatient, whiny, insecure, overly-sensitive, stressed, lazy, and complain all the time (which relates to whiny - I'm even complaining about us right now). Growing up with the Internet and such fast access to social media and so many other things has, I think, screwed us up. Not to mention growing up in COVID, our creativity is at a depressing low (which is also demonstrated by the lack of new ideas in the 'new' music that comes out nowadays. It's rare to find something actually new and revolutionary, and let's be honest when it does happen it's usually Jacob Collier being a genius). I do not like my generation and I wish I was born at a different time, but still we're not the worst generation, which I think is at the moment Gen Alpha

  • I think to many older generations the gen z issue isn’t the attitudes for change or not settling. But the general assumption and perceived attitude that it’s the first generation to act and be this way. You look back on the young people in the 60s and it was the hippy generation. Different visuals but same core mentality. Push for change in a more direct manner. Same for 70s/80s/90s (in the UK we didn’t have a guaranteed minimum wage until 1997 how do you think that happened. Younger people pushing for change.) Otherwise imo there’s nothing special about the attitudes changing gen to gen. Maybe that’s what frustrates gen z with older generations perception and ambivalence. Older generations have been there and done that in their own way. It’s nothing new or special. Just a different focus. And it’s not their generational fight. Each generation has their own problems to tackle. Can’t fight every battle.

  • It’s giving gen z delusional vibes… many comments below are so accurate. Typical gen z, avoiding the accusations made towards them while accusing others. Avoiding answering and saying in-between the lines ‘yes’ to some generalizations and offering up excuses. Claiming these concepts have been around forever when in reality not, no backup for their claims. Just sad to see the lack of inner reflection and delusion.

The complain about the previous generations not questioning things or being stuck in their ways. @BlenderStudy@BlenderStudy5 ай бұрын
    • As a Gen X'er myself, the first time I heard the term was the well known book by Douglas Coupland, Gen X, from 1991 (iirc). I did read it, and at the time, thought it was a pretty decent summary of my my generation. But I don't think there was really a plan for the world to follow it and accept it as a term. Afterall, if that were so, he'd have called it Gen A so there'd be a load of options to come after, not just Y and Z.

      @ka5141@ka51415 ай бұрын
  • heh, I thought they'd address something else. But yeah, I guess they're very indirect in the way they speak instead of addressing people directly due to the influence of the internet and not needing to respond to people directly, and moreso needing to influence the opinion of thousands of third parties. Like, if genz's are used to beign able to be convincing and eloquent enough, it can turn anything into a victim of injustice.

  • Is pretty pathetic that the editors featured misconceptions that are so trivial. All of the problems that Gen Z has and people tend to have misconceptions about in the media can be blamed on baby boomers who are the worst generation in many generations and are the source of many of the different issues Gen Z and other generations are having to address. Gen Z, as with all generations, have also created issues for themselves, both real and imagined. Number one problem though is screen time which is partly their own fault, but is mostly their parents' fault. Problems aside, I think their is more upside with this generation. They are mostly good people
