Hello Skaters! Welcome back! Today I am teaching you a beginner footwork sequence using three-turns and mohawks (with a tap-toe jump thrown in for fun!) You can learn this just for a fun challenge, or as part of this year's Christmas program choreography! Just like we did last year, In a couple of weeks I will be teaching you the choreography to a Christmas program that you can practice. and I will also be giving you information about how you can submit a video of your performance to be included in our Christmas Day video! Super fun right?!?
Here are the moves in order for this sequence...
Left Forward Outside 3-Turn into a power 3
Step forward on Left Outside Edge
Right Forward Inside Mohawk into a Barrel Roll x2
Reach back with left toe pick into a Tap Toe Jump
Right Forward Outside 3-turn into a Waltz 3 x2
For today's footwork sequence you will want to know...

  • After the Barrel Roll, instead of having the Toe Tap, I did a half-flip. Marching for a few seconds I had the left FO waltz three, then a Salchow+Toe Loop combo. Ending with a backward pivot. A beautiful short program!

  • I'm working on it! I lose control a bit in the barrel rolls but the video breaks in down in a way that I can start to learn it (since I learned the waltz 3s for last years program, that's the best part in my attempts XD)

  • Hi Coach Julia, I love all your videos. I am a (again, because I rollerskated at 10-14 years) beginner with inline skates now at 39 😊 and your videos are so helpful!!! I will practice this foorwork, see if I can get it. 😁😁

  • totally gonna try this out :> also, I want to get my blade realigned for my feet type, do I have to get tested to find out how the weight is spread beforehand? Also, who should I consult for that?

  • Bravo. Great video. I learn so much from these. A suggestion for future videos, can you do one focusing on various beautiful arm positions during three-turns and simple footwork? I feel like there’s lots of possibilities, even for beginners.

  • Hi Coach Julia, awesome video! I was wondering if any chance you could make a forward scratch spin tutorial? I know you already made a backward scratch spin but i have been trying to do a scratch spin but I’m pretty sure my technique is wrong, so if u could it would be very appreciated!! Thank you :)

  • Hi Coach Julia! First of all, thank you so much for all the great tutorials! They are so helpful. I have a question about the power three-turn: in the crossover that follows the three-turn, it looks like you're not lifting your right foot off the ice. That's also what I see in figure skating competitions, but when we learned the crossover, we were told that we should lift the foot that's on the outside and bring it to the inside. Is there a reason why in practice it's often not done this way? Thanks!

    @cathyteng9287@cathyteng92872 жыл бұрын
    • We usually start by teaching the crossover with a lift. This is to make sure you have proper control over each edge, your core and your arms. once you can do that smoothly and without dragging the toe picks then we usually introduce a sliding crossover, rather than a lifting one. The sliding crossovers allows for greater power.

  • Hi! I’ve got all the skills in this video, plus back inside and outside three turns, and I’ve started working on difficult turns (twizzles, rockers, and brackets mostly). If I want to learn one of the footwork sequences, should I stick to this one, or will the harder one be doable for me? Thanks for making this!

    @juliathompson9859@juliathompson98592 жыл бұрын

    @hotstonestacey1422@hotstonestacey14222 жыл бұрын
    • It just depends on your level of ability. For a beginner skater, this qualifies as footwork.

      @CoachJulia@CoachJulia2 жыл бұрын
    • Ah yes because everyone is able to do complicated footwork sequences as a beginner... Please don't be so negative, it's a beautiful sport and there is no reason to gatekeep by saying things like this. No wonder people are assuming they cannot start skating as teenagers/adults if this is the message from fellow skaters/sport enthusiasts

      @MsCharlottee@MsCharlottee2 жыл бұрын
    • Each skater has to start somewhere. As an adult skater, I am rather new to footwork and while I know I can do all of these elements, it would be challenging for me to execute them well and with flow. I am excited to try. Challenge accepted!
