    • its like watch 2:15 . in mount look at gords head position thats where his weight is, buchecha initially trys to bridge into him but doesn't even have his right hand in as a frame, that would have been the easy way to slip the underhook, instead he bridges back the other way (where gordon can base out with his hand) and manages to shove gordons head so far out of position that he can slip the underhook. It's like his arm was in mechanically the weakest position possible -with his arm stretched overhead, and he still managed to just bridge and chest fly gordons bodyweight off of him

When Buchecha laughs with Gordon during the attempted leglock, it is because those are the techniques they learned at Renzos during Danahers class, you even see Gordon look over at Danaher and smiles at him.

Extremely technical although Ryan kept setting up those arm drag-leg attacks made me wonder why B never went for a redrag until later 24:16. I'm a fresh purple belt but, even back as a blue, I was sweeping browns and even a black belt with this exact setup, when I first started using it. It really is as easy as Gordon makes it look when applied correctly.

    • Such a cool sweep. Are both feet in sort of an under-hook position? I mean, butterfly guard? Or is one foot outside to block the leg?

      @psychedelicgulag@psychedelicgulag Жыл бұрын
    • @@psychedelicgulag it's basically just the shoulder crunch sweep but the arm is pinned on top of the shoulder kind of like an arm crush submission. Both legs are in for butterfly hooks but, Buchecha knows which direction Gordon is trying to take him so he posts his leg out and stays heavy on the opposite side. Gordon, utilizing his mastery of the concept of Kuzushi, uses his right butterfly hook to elevate and extend Buchechas leg, upsetting his base to such a degree that made elevation with his left leg for the sweep as easy as breathing.

  • Since we need to justify our positions by saying a fallacy argument first, let me preface this by saying I am not a fan of Gordon. Now that we have that covered let’s get to the point. Gordon Ryan won this match .he didn’t win on a rule or favoritism or any other convoluted means of the system. His opponent literally stalled for 3/4 of the fight and backed out of almost every dangerous position. I can count on one hand with one finger (my middle) how many times his opponent was aggressive. Literally the last 45 seconds ish of the fight. Be passive for 32 mins and active for 45 seconds. What a great philosophy. It’s a Christmas miracle he wasn’t called for 3 more negatives. Watch the fight as a fan of the sport not a fanatic for one individual.

  • ADCC is supposed to favour wrestling as much as jits, but Gordon had a great strategy here. Play guard, do some ok attempts at sweeping and force the opp to get tired trying to pass, and if they don't: Penalty. I can't say I was impressed by the match we'd all been waiting for but it took some super high level guard retention and threats to keep a beast like Buchecha at bay.

    @BlockheadJiujitsu@BlockheadJiujitsu4 жыл бұрын
    • Coming from the UFC/MMA background, when I see Gordon just pull guard like that and basically the opponent is forced to attack (due to the ruleset) it just doesn't sit well with me. It's a great strategy to win but the mere fact that he has to do that, idk, rubs me the wrong way even if it's effective.

      @ArisenMind@ArisenMind3 жыл бұрын
    • ArisenMind I get what you mean but thing is with Gordon, he does it not to force his opponent to attack, if his opponent doesn’t attack Gordon inches his way little by little to a more favorable position where he can set up a submission or sweep or take the back, hence why many opponents decide to back out. Gordon is like Marcelo Garcia 2.0 being that he is bigger and taller, and that he wants to engage or set something up all the time. He also has great technical efficiency, so I’m sure he studies his opponents heavily prior to competition and the more time you spend with him on the mat, he keeps getting better as he studies you and feels out your weight, balance, strength, etc. Not a huge Gordon fan due to his sometimes cocky attitude however I do respect it because clearly he is talented at the sport and I like guys who prefer winning by submission rather than using the point system, at the end of the day that is the goal of jitsu, to dominate and submit.

    • Because no one really plays the system of jiu-jitsu like he does. Even after buchecha saw the sweep setup and got swept, he felt Gordon’s BJJ technique and strength all in one motion. That and the fact that Gordon’s mat IQ is very developed at this point, he definitely has spent time studying his opponents and their movements long enough to make the best decision at the best time possible. I’m not a super huge Gordon fan, but you can clearly see who is engaging and you can’t deny numbers. Gordon likes jiu jitsu for the sport it is. Controlling the opponent and finding a submission. Personally I think Lachlan Giles or Marcelo in his prime would’ve had a fair chance against Ryan, and I say fair because they are not as tall as him, if Marcelo was Gordon’s height, he would’ve been the Gordon Ryan of his era and maybe would’ve gotten even more taps. Lachlan has the system down pretty well too, but to be honest I don’t think no one smaller than Gordon will tap him considering his skill level. His true only threat today would be Craig, size most definitely heavily matters at the top of the leagues.
