Didn't fully realize all he is and means from the very first day, but always seeing him from time to time and also experiencing the amazing games, now that I am 39, it's like looking back I can't picture my love of videogames and stories without him :) That rummaging in the basement of Remedy's HQ to find Max Payne gear from the very first I felt like a million dollars, such a sweet moment, I was laughing with tears and touched at the same time :) "Echo scenes to seek ooooooooooouTT!!! AGAIN AND AGAaaaaaaaaaaIN!!" :)

Beautifully said. I've loved him for a long time but you're right. He's just always been there and all of the sudden it really exploded post Control and AW2 in terms of my realizing how much I cherish him. He's somehow ego free in spite of clearly loving the camera and spotlight. Just such a weird, goofy guy who loves creative media of all kinds and wants to celebrate all of it however he can. There's really no one that quite occupies the space he is in. One of the purest creatives in gaming media. Right up there with someone like Lorne Lanning in terms of their inability to not be so obvious about who they are in the best kind of way

It's awesome seeing Sam Lake become more of a household name in the gaming industry. I remember becoming a fan of his after Max Payne 2 but before Alan Wake(2005ish). This is when I started paying closer attention to who are actually behind the games that I enjoy. The person, who they are, what other works they've done etc. There was such little info on him back then when he was still just known as the face model and writer of Max Payne. I remember finding an old Finnish website that had a series of all his short stories(one being called "A Circle of Saints"). I kind of liked the mystery behind him back then lol. You could barely even find a picture of him.

There are a few actors/actresses that i credit Sam for knowing. Ilkka, Matt, Shawn, Courtney and more. Love Remedy. Sam seems super genuine and i have very high hopes for Remedy in the future. Max Payne was cool and fun. Was engaging. Alan Wake showcased thier story telling. Quantum Break tried to even build on that with the live action. Control nailed it. Alan Wake 2 watching them come into themselves and really hone in on thier style is just perfect. They have it and I really think they are just gonna keep continuing on with the trend. Every game they make is better than the last.

Right up there with someone like Lorne Lanning in terms of their inability to not be so obvious about who they are in the best kind of way
4:40 sam lake has immaculate taste
His accent is made for podcasts and audiobooks
8:13 In all honesty, that's a great pun.
There are not many people I would describe as a cinnamon roll. That said, Sam Lake is a cinnamon roll. (With coffee. :P)
Sam Lake never change please
0:11 Man, if, instead of having one the visual direction for him it did, imagine that there on the right was our HD Max Payne.
He is my favourite person in the gaming industry
After a few times of hearing "I'm Sam Lake" you'll start hearing "Amsam Lake"
Also what I realized is that when you write Amsam Lake in google the first thing coming up is Sam Lake LMAO
He's my favourite person in the gaming industry. So different from all the suits who are just in it for the money.
One of the reasons I try to encourage people to seriously check out remedy games, honestly only other game that ever brought me into its world as good as any remedy game was hellblade senuas sacrifice which is another highly recommended series for those seeking a highly immerse story experience
Swen Vincke is pretty similar in that regard, I reckon
I’m not a horror fan otherwise I would be all over quite living not terribly far away from them
This video cures depression. I have no proof but neither doubt
Sam Lake and Yoko Taro are goofballs for directors and I love them for it.
oh god the way he got emotional after showing the jacket 😭😭
can this goofy man be ANY more likeble? just wanna hug this guys!! what a time to be alive. let's celebrate this victory and not take it for granted. Here's for Remedy and all envolved! Thank you for being weird and not selling out guys. Keep it weird and original.
How not to love this man?
imagine a dragon ball fusion of Sam Lake and Hideo Kojima
4:39 What's your favorite XBOX ONE game? "Lego Marvel Superheroes" Awesome 👌🏽
IT'S PAYNE!!! WHACK'IM!!!
Dude i want a blend of that cauldron lake coffee, ironically i had decided to make a cup of coffee at 9pm then stumbled across this humbleness and shared a cheers of coffee with the man myth and legend himself. 10/10 experience
He and Kojima should do a game together.
They are good friends so I hope so someday they both have endless creativity
Too many cooks
@@i_love_musique333I was about to say the same thing but in many more words, but you pretty much nailed it.
that little jig he dances behind Door before Herald of Darkness is the same one The Arm is seen doing in Twin Peaks, just another nod to that show
He is so humble, intelligent, fun and a wonderful writer. Incredible personality. I wish I could meet him and we can talk about games for just a few minutes.
The fact that this man has the ability to scare me enough to make me cower in fear, then lead the biggest mystery ever so I'm at the edge of my seat, and then be just a silly little guy in the span of 5 minutes is mind boggling
OMG you made a fangirl SO happy.
we should start fanboying for sam (actually, don't)
This man is a damn game developing genius.. I can't wait to see which twisting roads he takes us through next with his next bunch of games.. Alan Wake 2 was spectacular.. (That musical part was ... just.. wow) .. and Sam Lake is an incredible visionary who deserves awards for Alan Wake 2 .. It was a masterpiece.. I cannot wait to delve back into Max Payne with his upcoming remakes..!!
Sam is just a cool dude. No more, no less.
What an absolute legend
I don't know if I sound out of pocket but I've always felt Sam Lake was the Stan Lee of video game writing and charm! Both LEGENDS 😭😭😭
Such a goober I cried during the scene in AW where Mr. Door announces the story of The Story of the Journey of Alan Wake the Musical and he's just goofmaxxing in the bg.
Sam Lake and Suda51 will always be my favorite directors. God bless
IDK what's in their water but Finland is quietly becoming the home of many great videogame creatives.
Is he actually an eldritch being cause he doesn't look like he's aged a day since Max Payne 1🤣
0:21 OH GOD IS MAX PAYNE FACE
one of the best parts of the new game is when you sit down to interrogate wake and casey is just giving him a psychotic grin.
Goofy, likes stories, likes games, adores coffee. My kinda guy.
Max Payne: The cult leaders are usually the ones doing the rituals, not the detectives
Should do one of Ilkka next!
I had no idea how epic this guy actually was.
4:39 sami being based as always
I love this silly and talented man
2:07 - 2:20 Finnish mind set in a nutshell
The universe Remedy and Sam have created it's just bliss
What a character, we love him 🙏
Sam is such an incredible guy! World needs more people like him.
YOU HACK!
Finnish is the funniest accent.
Sam Lake rules 🥳
long live remedy games.
Are you fucking with time? Yes. What year would you like to go back to? This year? Can you take me there now? Here we are. I dunno why, but that discussion made me certain that Sam Lake is something else :D
WTF this guy dose not even get old! He looks even younger than Max Payne in Max Payne 1, which is back 20 years ago!
I fucking love this guy
Best video game director of this generation
The musical in AW 2 was definitely the best!
SAM LAKE YOU HACK [affectionate]
His vision and Kojima's vision 🤯❤
i hope he doesnt lose his crazy sense of humor and creativity. love him and his work.
Starring Sam Lake as Sam Lake
Brilliantly edited. I never stopped smiling.
I love him
Illka Villy and Sam Lake is the best thing to hit entertainment.🎉✌🏼
Sam should really look into making a reality tv show about a fictional reality show..just imagine, Max Payne and Alan Wake in a house on the lake..where all they have is coffee, Remedy games to play, and Meta commentary about them playing their own games. The show will be called “Wake the Payne FT: Bright Falls smooth blend”.
