  • Man Derrick Rose was one of those players that you really HAD to watch during that time to fully grasp how amazing he was. Everything about him felt so...heroic? Like he played and carried himself with a larger than life aura. He truly was unstoppable, like Joakim said players feared him, you saw it in their body language. Like the Miami Heat was THE villain to beat in the league and Derrick Rose with the Bulls were the only ones that people felt that could take them down. The Pacers surprised a lot of people because they went hard against Miami but Bulls were THE team that could truly beat them. To this day there have been a lot of players that remind me of Derrick like Ja, Westbrook, Kyrie but none of them give off the same aura as Rose. The other only player that game me the same feeling that Rose did was Curry during his 2 MVP season.

When he ran out of the tunnel and PA announcer Tommy Edwards bellowed “Frommmm Chicagooo” for the very first time, the building had not reached those volume levels since 98. The rose that grew from the concrete. He will get MVP chants every time he is here until the day he retires. The bulls had the best record in the league so to combine great stats with the best record and an exciting young player who socially doesn't say much made him an easy vote over 'the chosen one' who 'took his talents' to South Beach to play with a top 4 shooting guard ever and a power forward who could be sold as a discount KG but definite hall of famer. He didn't feel his body was right yet, making sure to look out for his long term health and instead of trying to understand his thinking some people immediately questioned his toughness. He's proven how tough he is because he kept coming back and some people to need to learn a player being cautious with their health knows a lot more of what's going on with their body as opposed to some fan sitting at home passing judgement.

But it was painful to watch Derrick get hurt again and again. Thibs running dudes for 47 minutes a game, Taj, Noah, and then Butler later. Then seeing them get to the playoff through pure effort and passion and by the end looking tired and defeated. Not easy. I think Noah makes a good point, going from the top to a steep fall. It was all over so quickly and just like life, most of the time you don't get second chances. As far as Derrick, I personally went from thinking he was soft to having the deepest respect for him never giving up and doing everything he could to change his game and play. Even if it was less money, time etc. Hats off to all of them, best wishes.

  • That first knee injury was absolutely heartbreaking. As a Chicago fan and born and raised resident of the city, the city knew that we had found our new MJ. Especially after that MVP season. But the people of Chicago fell in the love with the guy based upon the person and not just his incredible talent and abilities. But after that second injury, the fans of Chicago and the league as a whole knew he’d never fully recover. It’s amazing that he’s been able to sustain a long-standing NBA career having battled thru those injuries. But the league was robbed of what could have been one of the best at his position had he not endured those injuries. Not to mention the dynasty that could have been created, championships, etc.

  • Being from Chicago, life long Bulls fan who also grew up during the Bulls dynasty.... Watching Derrick play from Simeon all the way to the last day he had a Bulls jersey on was a dream come true. From '09-2012 specifically, he had the city in the palm of his hand, but was so humble about it. He really was a symbol of hope in Chicago during a very dark time and the oncoming days ahead of it.

We have followed him all the way and will continue to all the way to the end. Humble shy dude who I feel is a mirror image to my own personality. Australia loves Drose.

  • Joe saying the mvp is a gift and curse is by far the truest thing ever. I remember reading about that somewhere someone said the same thing about the mvp award being a curse and gift. Derrick rose gave his mvp award to his mother he didn’t keep it instead he gave it to his mom. Rose didn’t care about no mvp award he didn’t play for a mvp award he was playing for his family and the city of Chicago he wanted to bring a championship so badly here. Derrick rose is the peoples champ

I've watched hundreds of games after that, present and past, but he'll always remain my favourite player ever. That was his coming out party for sure. Youngest MVP ever. He was on his way to a HOF career but sadly injuries robbed him and the fans. It’s impressive that he still in league though.
