  • felt sorry for KN, shot was magical and legit AF. Umpire should watch those in your face slam dunk shots in mens doubles before making such judgements. Those were never penalised and Axelson got away with those nets returns a few times.

    • Yup, ridiculous call. He was in legal position, racquet back and moved forward. Better than some of the blocks off tight net kills.

  • 56:45 How is that "obstructing the opponent"? Nishimoto didn't have his racquet over the net and Ginting was nowhere near the net.

    • personally i think the umpire is right. hes not really defending his head in the end. you can see quite a clear line from the shuttle before contact to nishimoto head. so because hes not actually defending his head intentional or not , then its obstruction.

    • @@ovtroll1199 It doesn't matter what you do with your racquet when you keep it on your side. Ginting is not in any danger of having his swing obstructed at the net so there is no obstruction happening at all. Ginting had the whole court to hit to and chose to smash at Nishimoto. You keep talking about "defending the head" when that has nothing to do with anything.

    • @@luf4rall pretty sure the rule is you are allowed to defend your head but not allowed to obstruct. i interpret obstruct as anything other than defending your head. plus its impossible to be in danger for the opponent even if they obstruct. unless obstruction is meant as over the net which in your case is right

    • @@ovtroll1199 at no point is Nishimoto obstructing anything. The "danger" is if racquets clash at the net due to the defending player placing their racquet in the way of the attacking player's swing. Ginting is nowhere near Nishimoto. Ginting makes his shot and his follow through is nowhere near Nishimoto or the net. Nishimoto makes contact with the shuttle when it's obviously on his side of the net.
