Fender Custom Shop 1960s era Telecaster and Stratocaster side by side comparison, what are the tonal differences and should you own both? Check out my previous video on those guitars from the 50s era - • Q&A:9 1950s Era Fender...
In this video I take two 2022 build Fender Custom Shop guitars that hark back to the 1960s era starting with the iconic 1961 Telecaster, in a colour called… Aged Sherwood Green Metallic. The body is based on a 1963 style and made of Alder, this is finished in a medium tint nitro-cellulose lacquer. The quarter-sawn maple neck, has the 60s Oval ‘C’ shape, - Very comfortable to the feel and the dark Rosewood fingerboard has a 9.5” radius with 21 Narrow Tall 6105 Frets. The pick-ups are both Hand-Wound, at the bridge an Original Black Guard Single-coil and to compliment and off-set that, A Twisted Tele Single-coil at the neck. See in-depth review of this model - ( • UB:25 Custom Shop Fend... )
Next is the Limited run late 1964 Stratocaster Relic in a 3 tone sunburst over an Alder body. The neck is sculpted to a 63 style “C” neck profile, which is very comfortable to the touch, and the fingerboard is a dark AAA rosewood with a 9.5 radius. with 21 Narrow Tall 6105 frets. The pick-ups are Hand-Wound Fat 60s while the selector switch is the 5 way blade type, which was introduced in the late 1970s. See in-depth review of this model -( • UB:18 Fender Stratocas... )
How do they compare? While this is just a very general overview it clearly shows the differences (Stratocaster tremolo and 5 blade selector aside) between these great iconic guitars, yet the Fender tones from each instrument are unmistakable... Enjoy!
