Outerlimits builds one cat, the 46. Nortech builds far more, from 36 to 52.
@@dieseldog00 Actually they released a 130+ mph 37 SC Outerlimits cat this year. But nevertheless outerlimits makes a badass cat, regardless of who makes more. And Skater has been the #1 cat builder in the world, starting in 1978. They were the first to build kevlar and carbon fiber hulls and use poxy resins. They also have more, from 28 up to 59ft. Skaters are up in the 180 mph range. Mystic are in the 200+ range. DCB and Mti make great cats up in the 130-140+ range. Theres all kinds Back to my point. Cigarette are in the cat market now, not just V bottom and center console
@@carpe_poon5761 I've emailed the Skater painters about the 588 but they haven't replied. I've looked on the build site but no pics yet. I know that cat will be a MONSTER!! Four big piston engines or two big power turbines. I think the 588 will sell for between $3mil-$4mil.

I’m sorry, but Cigarette was not made famous by Miami Vice. The boat for the first season was a 1984 Chris Craft Stinger 390X. In the second season it was replaced with a Wellcraft Scarab 38KV.

Not a boater, but was wondering why boats like this and some other larger performance boats (i.e. MTI and Wright Performance catamarans) are now using more outboards?
Much more reliable and the saltwater is harder to eat them up
For maintenance purposes. Easier to work on and they don't corrode from Saltwater like the exhasust manifolds on IOs do.
The cats are being built now with very lightweight materials which means the lighter transoms can be rigged with outboards giving much higher speeds. Skater has built their 36 foot cats with triple outboards for many years.

I'm not a boater but I love car engines and horsepower but if your gonna pay that much for a boat simpler is better so why not go with fewer bigger more powerful motors like 4 not six motors a supercharged lsx can put out 700hp reliably.

@@williamcrawford6543 Seven Marine was sold to Volvo which then dumped it. The most powerful outboard engine on the market now is the 9.6L Mercury Racing 600hp V-12.
Bc you can get more out of six 450R outboards than what you can fit of the 600s. The 600s are bulky

@@THOMAS01ify Youre getting more out of 6 supercharged 450Rs than what you get out of 5 naturally aspirated 600s. Theyre also double the weight. So power to weight ratio is better. This thing runs upwards of 80mph. Thats a 60 footer. Whats wrong?

@@dieseldog00 Idk who the new guys are. The 600 verado outboards are designed to power 35-55ft vessels. The Tirranna is 60ft. Also bigger isnt always better in the boat world. The 600s weigh in at 1260lbs and at 600hp each. The 450R is a racing engine that weighs in at 689lbs while pushing 450hp each. You do the math. Not to mention 1000 gal fuel tank. The 600 burns up to like 180 liters of fuel per hour at high speeds so adding more weight just kills your fuel consumption. Its just not worth it. The Tirranna is just under 40,000lb vessel and cruises at 65mph, topping out at 80mph. Why would you increase your weight to power ratio by over 2000lbs to gain 3 or 4 mph, especially when a 60ft behemoth goes this fast? Thats just not smart. Also the 450R is literally a supercharged high performance racing engine. The verado 600 is naturally aspirated, no supercharger. Its a beast of a engine but the 450R is just more efficient for this vessel. Now, boats like the Formula 50 ss are powered by four verado 600s and will run 74mph. Those are efficient for that vessel. Mercury will most likely build a even more powerful outboard by supercharging the 600 which will put out 750hp. Maybe they will start putting 4 or 5 of those on the Tirranna lol who knows
@@carpe_poon5761 I don't see any reason five 600s wouldn't work on the Tirranna. That's about 6300lbs on the transom which should work fine with some added weight if necessary.
