Amazing musical mind opener, and even more important if you listened this when you were a kid, for me this was my first experience with classic jazz
Same thing, man. I thought it was electric
@@siyuansu2597 Not electronic? Wow! is it real recording?
@@golagaz electric to me is diff from elctronic. Hard to find a non electronic music LOL
for me too, but i got going with SimCity4
For real, I still wonder if I'd love and appreciate Jazz the same way if it wasn't for this game!
JerryMartin!? The SAME composer of The Sims 1 music! This man is simple a genius!
Ofcourse. And many other Sims and SimCities. It Maxis studio. EA killed it.
i fucking hate EA and their business model.
"Cauliflower-Lovers Won't Let Broccoli-Eaters March In Their Neighborhood" "Original Magna Carta Found Written On Large Broccoli Stalk"

The best think of this SimCity 3000 soundtrack is that it makes you focused. I think that's because the overwhelming tasks and the complexity of this game, that without the right soundtrack music, people will feel so bored to play. That's why this soundtrack is very good to keep you more focused to your works.
For some reason, being relatively young and having played Simcity 3000 as a kid, this soundtrack pretty much sums up the late 90s/early 2000s vibe for me. A lot of Jim Carrey movies have similar sounding soundtracks, with the xylophone and woodwind and whatnot. It's eerily nostalgic.
For some reason when thinking about "city" music, just listen to Fifth Ave from the Meet Joe Black Soundtrack. It actually sounds very similar. That jazzy type sound, the whole soundtrack would probably fit a Simcity game...
@@rgerber there's a probably a lot of overlap between Jerry Martin fans and Thomas Newman fans, I'm one
Reminds of the ELF soundtrack too. Basically if you were going for a "suburban white protagonist" in your movie, you could expect this music.
Yeah, the 90s/early 00s definitely brought Jazz back in media. I think of Hey Arnold, Little Bill, The Nanny, Sex and the City, and even Mambo No.5 lol
Oh well hello there nostalgia.
Jerry Martin is just a quality composer! It's a very chilled but constructive soundtrack in places, great ambience for creativity!
nowadays im a civil engineer because of this game, that big was the influence of this amazing game on me, now i work building any kind of constructions in the city
Not only is the music great but this game was used in some college courses in city management cirriculum.
I am listening to this in 2022 while being ultra productive at work!
I don't understand how someone can dislike this. Maybe horrible city planner gave up immediately and traumatized. Or maybe the author of the music is sad because is not being paid. We will never know.
Jazz music: "Currently the temperature is 199 degrees under sunny skies".
The good stuff.
I like how the whole soundtrack is kinda tied together by that recurring motif from Sim Broadway. The melody is reused in many tracks, but it's usually subtle enough that it isn't annoying. Its quite smart actually the way it's intertwined throughout the score. (although there is at least one time where it feels unnecessary and distracting)
I've known about the motif for a while, and I still didn't notice that it shows up in Illumination too, starting at 58:20. It's altered very slightly, but it's the same progression, and I love the song even more now. Which song did you not like the inclusion of the motif in?
Yes. It's a nice subtile motif and I love it
Brilliant. I spent many, many, many, many hours playing this game and jamming out to this amazing OST.
I always listen it when I have to focus at work :)
^^ 100%. Am currently at work getting set up to start the day.
I was 12yo when this game came up and "Sim Broadway" is still one of my favorite pieces. I still find myself humming it.
This amazing soundtrack has led directly to my discovery of Steve Reich and minimalist music.
1:15:42 "It's just a city building simulator, the music doesn't have to be all that go-" *Build up for heavy banger*
***Desert 🌟 Sand*** is (actually) my favorite @01:19:31 🌴 😎 But fantastic soundtrack, and legendary computer game (thanks to GoG, i can play again !!)
this soundtrack make feel like i'm in a smart and quirky 80s/90s movie
This soundtrack is just pure city nostalgia, beautiful
it's been said, but sc3 was a masterpiece. beautiful and innocent
I love the variety. You have some music tracks and a few ambient tracks. You have some jazz and some electronic. It's perfect for working to.
Played this game back in my day a lot. Now I listen to this soundtrack while playing "Factorio". It's a bloody perfect combination.
The song “power grid” scared the living hell out of me as a child 😂
12:06 "Here at Sim City Health, your opinion matters. Together we can strive for a better future with better access to healthcare and medical education programs. Together we are strong. Together we are healthy. Together we are the future. A sim future. "At Sim City Health, we are open at all hours of the day, treating health issues, small and large, with our round the clock staff." "I am Sim City" "I am Sim City" "I... am Sim City" Brought to you by Shiny Things Incorporated and the Sim City department of health and education.
underrated comment
It is a shame "Sim Broadway" wasn't included in Sim City 3000 Unlimited. I spent hundreds of hours playing this game and was introduced to Jazz because of the soundtrack.
Yes, excluding that one ironically made it more limited.
Concrete Jungle has a similar style to Philip Glass.
The buildup in track number 2. Building is just epic. Adding layers of depth throughout the whole song.
I noticed most Sim City tracks are like that, which makes perfect sense when you're building and watching your city grow 😁
OH YAY you included unlimited!
Whoah, I'd never heard City Lights before!
City Lights was in Sim City 3000 Unlimited edition. It wasn't in the original Sim City 3000.
I'll never forget the Llama fetish these devs had
New Terrain
Who notices a laught at the end of the track on 27:35 ?
I love music that incentives creativity, focus and productivity. Now part of my personal Focus playlist, so nostalgic! I love music, and I believe i fell in love with building games since i was a kid, because the music.
The music was well managed with the city evolution. An amazing game to be a mayor, rise a city from dirty do millions people. And up downtown always sounds great!
Thank you!!!! A great tune for a drabby Day at work and 1999 memories too
I thought I was only one playing this soundtrack while working!
Amazing soundtrack!
"Magic City" and "New Terrain" are definitely my favourites!
A masterpiece of a soundtrack, I love every track to death, but “The Howling Wind” is a totally underrated gem that I wrote off completely when I first heard it as a teen. But it just clicked with me one day. It sounds like blustery day in musical form that suddenly stops to a dead calm. Until it suddenly roars back in force like a gale that catches you by surprise and blows you to the ground at 1:37:34 for the climax and ending. It’s one of my go to tracks whenever I listen to this album.
FYI, Jerry Martin isn't the only composer in this soundtrack.
Kirk Casey, Marc Russo too

Nice video
A simpler time, when you could just pay someone else to take your garbage.
Q bellas epocas de niño-adolecente. Escuchar estas canciones te hacia tener buen gusto
huh, this has more music than in the normal release!
This OST's two strongest tracks are immediately after the opener - Building and Magic City.
I always thought the opener was the strongest
@@callmepistol Yeah it's the opener and "Concrete Jungle" for me
In topics like this, please speak for yourself only.
@@Beos_Valrah If you're struggling with my original comment, that's your problem.
@@adizmal This comment just shows that you are ignorant and selfish.
Am I the only one who would build a city and then see how long it took for disasters to destroy it?
reminds me of The Wolfe Pits convenience food reviews
@ 1:27:35 South Bridge. That's me!
!Espectacular!
Jerry Martin & co should feel incredibly proud of what they achieved with this soundtrack
goat ost
They don't make 'em like this anymore.
Does anyone know what kind of jazz "Night Life" is? I love it, and want to hear more but am a total phillistine and thus have no idea what to search for.
Swing Jazz :)
Magic City 😞
the bass drop at 0:34 is so epic
My favourite 🏢🏭🏠city sumulator. I managed to get to the year 3300.
WOW
@21:51 Well it's a Bittersweet, new terrain that's li-ife
Giocare a City Skylines con la soundtrack di Simcity 3000 sotto 😍😍😍
56:38 reminds me of something I'd hear finding Nemo.
reminds me a bit of Samurai Jack and also Vangelis
more advanced than SC4...
This amazing track remember me why I never like that much Sim city 4. The sound track on that game feels soulless in comparison
35:30 sounds like Metroid prime
As soon as the tom-toms, the bongos and the didgeridoo sounds commence, I'm out. When the nice jazzy sounds return, I come in again.
Wow, so many lovers here. I didn't really played this game, and for me, this is just basic Jazz. no so great for '00s.
Any jazz recommendations you want to share?
First song straight outta Simpsons sounds like lmao🤣🤣🤣
Is it me or does Desert Sand have a kind of middle-eastern/bollywood vibe to it?
steve reich was here
man... this game made me realize how stupid i am...
Apuntalaron a zeus
This actually sounds so low quality. I think some compression on the sound was used. The highs and lows are not right. If you have good headphones, listen to how this video sounds compared to this one: kzhead.info/sun/pM-Rf9yEp5aDl6s/bejne.html The difference is night and day.
In my city, we take care of our citizens! I put Law & Order in place and make prosperity and peace a huge goal! I will make my City Great Again! Then Keep it Great!
