Stunning Modern Small Home Made From 3 x 20ft Shipping Containers

This week we explore a stunning small modern home which has been constructed using 3 x 20ft shipping containers. Situated near Lake Taupo, New Zealand, this home is built on a beautiful elevated section with commanding views over the lake and to the mountains beyond.
Shipping container homes continue to become increasingly popular. Their structural strength makes them a wonderful option for difficult building sites and they can be wonderfully transformed into spectacular dwellings.
Brenda is no stranger to living in container homes. The first time we met her she was living in a wonderful home made from a single 20ft container. She then constructed a second home made from a 40ft container and now has transitioned into yet another container home, this time using 3 x 20ft shipping containers.
Her experience in small space design has lead to some wonderful innovations, clever use of space and utilisation of ingenious transforming furniture to make sure her small home has a big impact!
You can find links to our first tours with Brenda below.

  • This tiny home seems completely liveable. No climbing ladders, no catwalks, no bedrooms where you can't stand up or walk around your bed. There is storage for the car! This home takes into consideration aging in place. Very well designed, and I think it is just 600 sq ft.

    • @@The.Hawaiian.Kingdom Some people require 3000 sq. ft. for a 2 bedroom home. She did not. This offers much more than "just a 2 bedroom home" in 600 sq. ft. • This is a brilliant, though not necessarily tiny, home. Still one person's tiny might be another persons potting shed so, yeah. Regardless, it is a smart use of the land, the containers and layout. Raising it up high was inspired and a smart way to cheat some space for 'garaging' the car or whatever. Depending on the resource act, I imagine you'd be able to box it in if you wanted to do so. Maybe to give another space for another spare bed and third office. (wink)
