2022 Nissan Pathfinder review // Did they get it right?

This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2022 Nissan pathfinder 3-row SUV. 35 years ago Nissan introduced us to the Pathfinder. This new model shares some similarities to the original model and it’s not a coincidence. Nissan’s goal was to capture the spirit of the original Pathfinder and create a strong design. Nissan strengthened the silhouette and made the front end more upright with a straighter and flatter hood creating a simple yet bold look. It has a boxy design with faired fenders or what Nissan calls blister fenders. The V-Motion Grille has a squarer style to make it look more modern and Nissan modified the boomerang LED headlights to give this Pathfinder a stronger exterior design. The backend looks sharp with the bold script across the boxy tailgate and the addition of slimmer taillights. For the first time, Nissan is offering a two-tone paint scheme. Nissan says, they closely analyzed every angle to make this vehicle as versatile as possible while also delivering on rugged capability. The Pathfinder has a 3.5L V6 engine with a 9 speed automatic transmission, 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. 4WD is standard in Canada. 2WD and 4WD models are available in the US. Some standard exterior features include, LED headlights and LED taillights, 18” wheels, and black roof rails. One up from the base model will get you the motion-activated power liftgate and two up from the base, silver roof rails and tilt down power mirrors. The top two trims come standard with 20” wheels. Blind spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert are standard. Thanks to the additional interior volume, the Pathfinder offers easier cargo and family loading and many other everyday utility benefits. There’s room for up to 8-passengers, space for up to three car seats in the second row and two in the third row. Available captain’s chairs, a first on the Pathfinder and a removable console, no tools needed allowing items up to 7 inches wide to pass between the seats. There’s also easier entry/exit from the 3rd row with one touch seating which pitches the seat forward to provide a wide opening from the driver or passenger side even with a car seat attached.
The captain’s chairs are only available on the top trim. There is two additional inches of front seat legroom, now best in class and 5 inches of third row hip room. The Pathfinder was designed to take 4 golf bags and with all the seats down, it’s large enough for a 4x8 sheet of plywood. There is 1” more overall cargo capacity from the outgoing model. The Pathfinder comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, 7” driver display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, cloth seats, heated front seats, 10-way power driver’s seat with 2-way lumbar support, a leather heated steering wheel and piano black interior trim. One up from the base model comes standard with a motion activated power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, ProPilot Assist and a third row reclining bench. We've picked the SL trim as the “best value trim” two up from the base model for an extra $6,600. It comes with the bigger 9” touchscreen, ProPilot with Navigation, driver seat memory, 12-way power drivers seat, leather appointed seats, heated second row seats, metallic brushed trim instead of piano black trim, wireless Apple Carplay, panoramic sunroof and a motion activated power tailgate. The top trim will get you some extra features like captain’s chairs, a 12.3” digital driver display, ambient lighting, quilted leather appointed seats, ventilated front seats, bronze metallic brushed interior a head-up display, wireless charger and a 13-speaker Bose sound system.

Glad to hear Nissan is digging itself out of the hole they created with “product, product, product”. Great review!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
Sadly, can't say the same for the luxury brand Infiniti. Besides the new QX60, no new products for at least another 2 years for dealers. Plus allowing Nissan dealers to consolidate their Infinity dealership on the same Nissan dealership property in Canada.
Previous generation of Nissan felt like they all belong to rental fleet. After I test drove Sentra and Rogue, they have changed my mind that Nissan is back. Looks like new Pathfinder will find itself from the bottom of the class to some of the best.
There are two contraptions ever installed in a car that drives me absolutely insane; the Auto Start/Stop feature and the CVT 🤬 I'm glad Nissan wizened up and got rid of it from the Pathfinder. One thing like someone mentioned, Nissan needs to tell people in their ads that the CVT is gone from this model and people will flock back to the showrooms to get their hands on this beauty.
Much improved over the old model. These will definetly sell more if they can push the new transmission into ads. Also the SL does get the heads-up display as well
I like it! It's more polished than the previous design
The new Nissan vehicles actually look quite good.
Nissan has given some of the amazing designed vehicles like 1st gen Nissan Titan 1st gen Infinity FX35 GTR 1st gen Nissan Pathfinder
Hopefully reliability and resale will be better 🤞
One of the advantages of being late to the party is the opportunity to see what everyone else is wearing. Nissan obviously looked at the Telluride's and the Palisade's outfits when the Pathfinder got dressed for the party. It may not top those choices but it's a credible alternative. And considering it's coming from Nissan that's a huge step forward.
Do you bring extra clothes and then change
Love your analogy
What a fantastic new generation Pathfinder. Nissan is on a roll. It good to see new products coming out that are well thought out and executed. They will move many more of these new Pathfinders than they ever have in the past.
Yes it looks fantastic, Nissan did a great job from the exterior to the interior. It's well done and will give some of the other 7-8 seaters some good competition.
*Love this style so much better compared to last generation!* 😍
Thanks for another great review. Just couple of points I would like to mention: 1. The push button to move second row seat is locked when 30lbs or more on the seat. That’s a great feature. 2. Headroom in the third row is better than Telluride. I am 5.10 and my head touches the top in the 3rd row in the Telluride but Pathfinder gives me couple of inches more. Which feels great. 3. 6000lbs towing capacity is better than Palisade and Telluride. Great for camping. 3. I feel SV offers the most value of all the trims. Factory fitted trailer hitch receiver, panoramic moonroof, 360 degree rear parking view are impossible to get at this price point. I booked SV yesterday 🤩
Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it. That's actually not confirmed about the 30 pounds, we spoke to the product planner and he couldn't confirm that. Did you hear that from someone at Nissan?
Great video and welcome back to Ontario ! I love watching your channel. I always liked the Pathfinder especially the older ones not keen on the previous generation.
Thank you so much, happy you love the channel 👍
There is a spot for the removable console underneath the cargo area, fits perfectly as shown in other reviews
Yay! I made Questions, Coffee and Cars! Thanks for answering my question about the EZ-Flex seats!
Thanks for participating, great question 👌
@@andreaspencer9813 It seems like such a useful feature, but I've heard some horror stories about the VW Atlas (which has something similar). It's good that Nissan locks it out while the vehicle is in motion.
love like your review on the new Pathfinder. looks great and nicer inside and outside.
Thank you so much!
Excellent, well made review!
Thank you so much!
Love you guys, all the way from Romania!
Great review, and from one of the great small cities in Canada. Fantastic to see you driving around the campus of Queen's!
It is such a beautiful city!
Great review guys 👌
Thank you so much!
I love the new pathfinder.. home run! Definitely contemplating one for my next vehicle whenever that may be.
@@iamalwayswrite What people do with their money is non of your concern.
Seems to me Nissan is bringing big changes in their lineups. Great review!
Both of you are the best team in Canada for reviews of vehicule.
Wow, thank you so much!
You two are great, no cringe factor at all.
I love watching your videos....very well done and you guys explained everything I needed to know.....How does this drive (handle) compared to a 2020 murano? Thanks
I’ve always loved the stylistic lettering on the rear hatches of Range Rovers. But this latest styling trend is being ridiculously overused. Although it may be preferable on a grand touring luxury SUV... lately it has been ‘watered down’ to the point of it being overused, outdated and somewhat generic looking. “Styles change. True style never changes” - Bill Blass (U.S. Fashion designer). Thanks for another entertaining video to start the week with. Well done guys! Have a pleasant flight back ... eh.
You two are amazing & I am now a fan as we had the same issue driving Pathfinder SV. Although, the higher model shown here is much nicer looking, the SV model felt cheap inside. The driving felt harsh, with poor visibility on front side & my wife felt lost at 5-5 on front seat without the height adjustment. However, we test drove 2022, 4runners TRD Sport, CX9 Touring, Mitsubishi Outlander SE and Suburban LT. We both loved all of those & I was shocked to see her comfortable driving the Suburban after a few seconds as she was terrified at first.
Welcome back Nissan. U have lots coming of fans to win back. Great review, agree with Zach's Ontario observations. Cos if u, wireless Andriod will arrive next year. Let me know if u 2 r doing MTL.
Love this vehicle
Another great review on a new and improved Pathfinder! I agree on having a little truck feel to it. It gives it that feeling of ruggedness! I enjoyed seeing that Kingston scenery and Ontario back roads! Hey Zack!! I'm an Ontario hoser too eh! 😅
Thank you so much, we had lots of fun in Kingston.
I’ve owned CVT transmissions for 10 years in two Nissan cars-no complaints at all-works fine. Most people just on the anti-CVT bandwagon.
I had a 2000 model Pathfinder in Dubai and it was an awesome vehicle. Unfortunately, they kind of lost their way after that. Glad to see them getting back on track.
Able to slide a 4x8 sheet in is a big deal for me because I use my suv as a secondary truck for my business. I wish wheel is 20inches instead of 18
I think the Rogue and this Pathfinder are gonna help Nissan to move along competition, so needed nowadays; have you thought of offering more than 4 options competition models, maybe 6? Having so much competitors on the market now? Thank you for bringing those wonderful reviews to us, Cheersss!!!
Now that they've done the Rogue and Pathfinder, should we expect a new Murano soon?
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 225,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.
Thanks for sharing!
A good looking Pathfinder, especially in that deep blueprint color
Hello, I really liked your video, I would like the consumption information to be presented additionally in gallons / 100km and the dimensions in cm or meters thinking of the Latin American market. Something important when talking about the cargo compartment, especially in 3-row vehicles, is to be able to see what types of suitcases can be placed with all the seats. When traveling with the full quota it is necessary to know if all the luggage can be included.
Thanks for the well explained review, I’m picking up my SV today the last pathfinder within 200 miles of me due to Nissan stopping production due to chip shortage. :-)
Good choice!
Incredible format!!! Just discovered your channel and found your style so refreshing 👏👏 Subscribed. P.S: I have booked a Pathfinder for myself. Still waiting for it to arrive in Australia.
Welcome aboard!
back in the game nissan well done you guys .
Thank you! 😊
Is this reliable in your opinion? Asking as I heard (a few years ago) that there were lot of reliability issues with pathfinder may be because of CVT or transmission failure?
Will my wife’s pocket book fit under the shifter? Great review
Bumpy ride - did you check the tire pressure? When I got my Acura RDX the tires were at 44 psi rather than 36 psi...
Hey guys : you are the best car KZheadrs in the world (among with Carwow in UK) !!!! And I see that Canada is another world compared to Europe ; after the monster Tahoe, the little monster Pathfinder....Greetings from sunny France.
Hi do you know if we can adjust the height of the passenger seat in the pathfinder 2023 ?
Yes... I tested drive it today... the height adjustment on the passenger sites is really bothering me.... A smaller guy will be invisible.
I love the blue colored car 🚙 pathfinder lover
Thanks Zack and Andrea for a great review! How does this new Pathfinder drive compared to the Subaru Ascent?
Thanks for watching! We are going to review the Ascent soon, stay tuned.
@@andreaspencer9813 great! Can't wait! 🤩
I was about to commit for a mdx 2022 until I saw this. Pretty confusing now. Can’t find one to test drive though. I like the sliding second seat with car seats to enter third row. Telluride is the best but it has huge markups.
Do you have the 2023 Pathfinder Rockcreek edition in your sights to review?
Nice looking SUV.
I prefer this to explorer. Thank u for review.
Thanks for watching!
For a top trim I think a matching black cloth headliner would've made it look and feel a bit more premium in there.
Agreed
Why go all dark all black always? What happened to bright and airy?
Nissan listened. For 2023 they brought out passenger front seat with seat adjustment up and down ! Glad we waited till 2023
Hopefully your 2023 Fuel Pump doesn't fail like many have complained about. My 2022 has less than 5200 miles...so far so good but would trade in pronto if problems do arise.
I have a Lexus IS 250 AWD with automatic transmission. I have NEVER driven a car that has a worse 1st gear. Its so jerky, I dont even see the point. Im interested to see if its the same way on the pathfinder. My Altima lease is up next october and I was planning on the Pathfinder as my next car. But not if its like the lexus...
You might be able to slide a sheet of 4'x8' in, but you won't be able to close the hatch.
Hermosa maquina, bien por NISSAN, bien por la nueva transmisión automática estándar de 9 velocidades Saludos desde estas Honduras.
You should compare this to the 2022 Infiniti QX60.
The button to tilt 2nd row seat is designed not to work with a child seat and baby on it. It has a weight sensor and will not work above a certain weight.
please review a new 2021 Jaguar f-pace
No Mazda CX9 as a competitor. Best looking, best driving, best interiors in its class.
We could only pick 4, such a competitive category, plenty of selection. You are right, CX-9 is a good one.
I wish they would've put some dual exhaust pipes on the back to give it that more premium look
Hey, now that it's been a year, I'd love to see this Pathfinder compared to the new Pilot. The EPA (were those numbers EPA, or a different circuit?) numbers are much better on this than Pilot!
So top trim only with panoramic roof ?
Kingston.. the best place to review cars as the roads are some of the worst in north america. the city has no idea how to repair a road cut.
Looks like Nissan found the path to success with this new Pathfinder, hopefully they don't get lost along the way again! 😄
Nice review guys as always! It appears to definitely be a big in the right direction but I don't know if it's compelling enough to sway shoppers from the competition namely the Kia Telluride! Hopefully you guys can do a review of the all new Jeep Grand Cherokee L soon!
It would be a good choice for me, my neighbour is a Nissan mechanic.👨🔧 🤣🤣🤣 Says a lot about their products he has a Titan truck and an Armada SUV. He says they are bullet proof and last forever!!!!
Nice! But poor package because missing a few things. I wouldn’t mind get front wheel drive, I don’t really need 4 wheel drive. Awesome review Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Thanks for watching, it was fun doing this one on the road.
@@andreaspencer9813 I am glad things turn out well there for you. 👍🏻👍🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Yes fwd is sufficient itself
We were interested in possibly purchasing this vehicle but the bumpiness comment has turned me off. What is a better SUV with a smoother ride?
Great exterior design! The dashboard lacks the design refinement of a CX-9 or the Korean sisters, though.
where's your review of the 2023 Pathfinder and how is it different to the 2022?
Hi Zach and adrea. Can you get 8 seater in platinum here in Canada?
No you can't, only 7 with captain’s chairs.
Nissan has never been one of my favorite brands but this looks good and ditching the CVT was an awesome decision👏
Nissan has always been one of the best Japanese car manufacturers
@@ahmedayaat2727 I don’t drive a Japanese car 😂
@@Carfan678 yeah so?
@@ahmedayaat2727 100% I don't understand why everyone bashes Nissan. They make one the best V6's out there and their cars are very reliable. I have owned many nissans and I have never had any major problems. Like with most Japanese cars, it is built for longevity. If you take care of it, it will take care of you. These are the same people that go and buy overpriced German cars with smaller engines, less power and pay 3 times more, and start having problems once they hit 40,000 miles...
@@brendandouylliez5243 mhm, exactly.
No android auto wireless?! I think think they now do on the 23
Love this car.. can’t wait until I can find one to test drive.. dislike the lettering on the back.. overall its such a nice car.. It also comes in my favorite color
Zach and Andrea - best Couple on the Web!!! Your comments on the 9AT are a bit concerning as well as the Harsher Truck like ride that Andrea emphasizes. How does it compare to the new 2022 Acura MDX Advance ? The Loaded Pathy is over $10 K cheaper, bUt does have a nice large, graphic Touch Screen. Acura IMO missed the Boat going with Touch Pad - should have been both like the GV80 !! I have driven the MDX, and liked it a lot. I am considering replacing my 2019 MDX advance which is leased to June 2022. Acura is offering an early Termination - trade up loyalty $$$ , and I have equity in my car now.
The MDX drives like a large sedan, this is more truck-like
Thanks for the kind words!
Once I saw how slow the touchscreen moves, it's a deal breaker.
I own a 2017 Pathfinder, purchased new from my local dealer. So far so good with 70k miles on it. They only unexpected repair was the cooling fan on the engine. Bearings went bad on the fan and my Pathfinder sounded like an old diesel truck. If this new non CVT pans out to be reliable, I may purchase a new one in a year or so.
Everyone I know with the last model of Pathfinder had the fan bearings go. I managed to replace it myself with a $237CAD unit from Rock Auto, after watching a few KZhead videos. The first thing to go on our 2015 was the CVT. Started shuddering within the first year. It has been fine since, but it makes me trigger happy to buy a different vehicle. We also had to replace the rear floor (because the lift handle wouldn't stay down), the passenger seat headrest (because the leather came loose at the bottom), the plastic under the roof rails (because weather stripping was dangling from underneath), and all 4 aluminum wheels (the clear finish pocked after one winter). I hope you don't run into the same issues I did.
Oh, and our front wheel bearings also failed after maybe a year of use. We were lucky that everything except the fan was under warranty.
Oh no! I left my center console in Florida!!👍🏻
Still not sold on the front end. I think they could have made it a little sharper
Wish they made the new PF a real PF again (truck based) and make the Murano the new PF or keep the name but offer 3 rows
I want to see snow and ice test.
291hp dam why can't we get that in Australia
honest opinion cheers
Thank you!
Andrea, you may be in the minority with regards to "liking a truck feel". Nissan also needs to change that U shaped front grill
Yes more people prefer a smoother ride for sure.
We purchased a Platinum Pathfinder a few weeks ago, the seats suck with no side bolstering (in comparison to Murano), bottom of the seat doesn't cool right (your back will freeze before it cools your Butt), no anti-freeze in over flow, Shit chunks in the paint...., & Emergency braking does not work when someone walks in front of you or behind you....( this worked great on our 2 year old Platinum Murano) Hello Nissan America NOT happy
2% better fuel economy? Yah, not when I drive. I've never been in a Nissan dealership. Maybe I'll go when the Ariya is available. oh and welcome back to Ontario hoser!! Out of the other 4 other options I'd buy the Atlas or Telluride.
I purchased the SV AWD and so far there are some things that I would definitely change if I could. The backup camera in this trim is horrible quality. The passenger seat is so low that it is uncomfortable sitting in it. I can't see over the front or sides of car and I'm 5ft 4in! It does drive very rough, not a comfortable ride unless completely smooth surfaces.
They engineered this Pathfinder more aggressive added a 9 speed automatic transmission and better interior. They are the best because dealerships can't keep on showrooms for a day.
Every car has wired Android Auto and Car Play. But is it wireless capable in Pathfinder?
Just for Apples.
Trashed my 2002 very low mileage (80k) Pathfinder a couple of years ago as the chassis rusted through. Nissan didn't stand behind their product. Had I bought a 4 Runner at the time (like my friend), I'd still have a trusty second car. They may have improved the product (hopefully) but the company is still Nissan.
Toyota was having rusted out frames also. 4Runner owners were left out of the original settlement and filed a separate lawsuit in 2018.
I didn’t know Nissan warranty only for three years… most others is at least five? Is that cause for concern?
Most Japanese main stream has 3 year bumper to bumper and 5 years power train, exact what Nissan has.
I looked at VW Atlas, Kia, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota before I bought the Pathfinder Platinum . . .
I have never understood why they leave out the power passenger seat, this would be a deal breaker for me and my wife.
OMG! You actually left BC for a change! Any problems due to covid? The review was great, but the reliability and warranties are nowhere near Hyundai or Kia. Neither is this vehicle. Nissan/Renault is notarious for cost cutting.
We sure did, it was a lot of fun. No issues with Covid but stricter measures in Ontario compared to BC. It was fine though.
Does it have android auto, most of us dont do apple.
Yes.
will wait a year or 2 before a decision.....what is the cargo space folks behind the front seats? No Android Auto? What's that all about?
It has Android Auto, just not the wireless version. Lots of other makes seem to only offer wireless Apple Carplay too. Must be in the early stages of development and glitchy.
I need a comfortable road trip family SuV, so I will need to pass if Pathfinder drives like a truck and can feel every bump. If the styling is this nice and is marketing as family suv, it should drive with some comfort. The cost of SUVs are astronomical so there are some ticky-tack options that should be included like auto tailgate, passenger seat height adjustment, etc. Thats a bummer its a truck drive cuz the styling and interior set up is exactly what I am looking for.
Now that the CVT is gone I’m sure people will still find a way to complain about the new transmission
several people in the comments already bitching..lol ( NOT ME ) happy its got a Auto.
I can't figure out why cvt is regarded as jerk. I love the smooth change of cvt
I agree
@@ccpout9210 exactly people just don’t take care of them and they fail and then blame Nissan for their negligence
@@ccpout9210 do a search on YT and see why people dont like them. Reason one is they suck/fall apart easily but there's more. That's the biggest reason though. Has nothing to do with proper care either. They are weaker by design. Maybe someday they'll beef them up but by then we'll probably be all electric so it won't matter much.
Motortrend just posted a pretty negative review of the Pathfinder, after reading that, I'm not sure why guys liked it so much.
