I would have watched an entire series centered on Professor Terguson
Damn right
If this movie had been made today, they would have made a series based on him.
You can attend his series of classes called Standups.
0:01 Jekyll 0:49 Hyde
Yeah - who would have signed up for his class just for the pleasure of watching sorority girls run from the room crying or some stuck up pedantic law student try to make a point.
Kinison’s opening monologue is brilliant - so much subtlety before he goes insane. Such an underrated appearance.
Yes, the opening is good but what part is underrated if it is one of the most well known scenes for both comedians ?
Dangerfield is funny because he is creative. I just don't see the creativity from Kineson. Just screaming is not creative or funny?
I wonder how many takes they had to do here. There is no way I’d have been able to keep a straight face if I were an extra in this scene.
@@rawlegoshortvideos4919 The ignorance of the people who use the word underrated in the comments section of u-tube videos is underrated.
@@cooganalaska3249 It's like Andrew 'Dice' Clay. It's funny the first time.
I would love a history class taught by this guy
Just curious, what career options would be open for you if you got a college degree in history? Besides being a history teacher/professor or a historian at a historical society or museum?
@alvexok5523 you could work for the state department or other government agencies
I wouldn't fall asleep in it, that's for sure.
Sam Kinison was great
That's a class I'd willingly paid for to attend 🙂
This is the comedic equivalent of Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix exchanging solos. Two of the greatest comedians that ever lived, completely awesome!
Where's Joe Walsh?
Well said
Or Alex Van Halen and Mitch Mitchell exchanging drum solos. Those two were just as good on drums as Eddie and Jimi were on guitars.
@@doughessonJoe Walsh sits no where near those two…
@@doughessonWhat kind of universe do you live in? Like the guy above me said, he doesn't sit within a football field of those two. He's a legend, don't get me wrong. But not a guitar mold-breaking, undisputed master guitar wizard like Hendrix or Halen. You could have said Shawn Lane or Randy Rhoads, though.
R.I.P. Sam Kinison and Rodney Dangerfield. Two of the greatest comedians to ever walk this earth. You are missed.
Always and forever!
Awesome. Pioneers
CUT!... uhhh.. Mr. Kinison, You really are in violation of Mr. Dangerfield's 6' personal space.
I agree they would never be replaced
All great comedians seem to just leave too early all of them
The smile on his face after the woman’s answer. “Is she right?” 😂
Hmmmm. Not in Sam's world. And we all got to enjoy his slow burn and build up... until the inevitable comic volcano exploded! Was only surprised that they didn't have the little blonde run out of the room, crying hysterically after Sammy got in her grill like no one else can!
Priceless
Classic Sam...... 😂🤣
I use that line when I teach
That wasn't a smile, he was gritting his teeth 😁
“I didn’t know you wanted to get involved with the discussion Mr Helper...” 😂
He says it so sweet and nice, from calm to volcanic in 2 seconds
My favorite line in this scene. Every time friends were talking and someone else interrupted, this was our go to line.
@bonwatcher - same here. Used that line extensively
I use this line as often as possible. With the same inflection and everything 😂😂😂
Good Answer
I really believed him as an ex war vet with PTSD turned History Professor. Kinison would’ve been a great actor had he of lived.
I'd say he was a great actor, left his mark in our memories. Probably would've got best supporting actor eventually if given more time.
He was a great comedian. This was an era where they basically let comedians do a version of their act in movies, a great example is rodney in Caddy Shack. Idk if he was a great actor, just a great comedian in a scene set up to let him do some all time classic material, with another all time great.
@@jtaco4101 Exactly
Y’all might not know this but he was a legit pastor as well before he started comedy
In HS my government teacher was a Vietnam vet

“He really seems to care… about what I have no idea.” is a quote that will forever be in my arsenal.
You can see where Sam's preacher background comes into play when he started his opening monologue, just how the words just flow out of his mouth like a pastor Sermon.
About 80 percent of his best jokes start out that way
I had no idea Sam Kinison was a preacher b4 he became a comedian.
@@benhamilton1156 his dad was as well.
Check out the video of his show "Breakin All The Rules", it has a real good early clip of him doing his intense preacher thing before he was a comedian.
Just like watching R Lee Ermy in 'Full Metal Jacket' - they weren't acting...
“Good answer...good answer.”

RIP Sam, RIP Rodney, and RIP chair.
I'm gonna miss that chair 🙏🏾
It was the chair's finest acting performance (just missed Academy Award nomination).
This proves that Sam Kinison could not only act, but act well. He would have had a bright future in movies. I miss him. RIP Sam and God Bless.
Just how he initially reacted to the answer before flipping out is genius
And left Gods grace also , he was a powerful preacher
He was one of a kind! Such a sad loss!
He was great in married with children lol.
I had a history teacher like that in HS but no one missed his class we love his antics and his weird way of teaching ...his class was never boring
He was the REAL Professor Terguson!
Prof Feliciano was his name ...he used to tell us " I'm sick of communists & christians claiming that we are all equal that's bullshit"
Had a bit of a crazy history teacher like that myself who would sometimes turn on a dime like Kinnison here. My favourite line: "In ancient Greece, women were for making babies. Men were for fun."
SAY IT SAY IT...
Sounds like an awesome teacher.
Sam Kinison (died too young) and Rodney Dangerfield together in such a classic scene. Really showed Kinison's comic style.
Professor Ferguson gone off the rails
Didn't Rodney 'discover' Kinnison?
@Lucas Cruz Yeah. Because your lack of a sense of humor somehow means everyone else lacks one, too, so you pretend you're oh-so-superior. For whatever reason. Pardon us while we all wipe our asses with your opinion.
@@xaenon He didn't discover Sam, but he put him on his HBO special, which launched his career into the stratosphere. Sammy was already a working and successful comic. Rodney's club in NY was a launching pad for a lot of young comedians at the time, and Sam loved and was grateful to Rodney forever more.
@@garysolorzano3216 Thank you for the clarification.
Remember the first time I watched this..."Is she riiiiiight?" The rising tense emphasis on the end of the question, and we were all like, 'oh geez, here it comes...'
I'm sitting at the dinner table waiting for my Dad to explode on one of us. lol
Sam is so good in this short but very memorable role. To me, this is the best scene in the movie. He pulls off the archetypical eccentric college professor that most people can connect with.
Possibly the best scene in Sam's entire career!

I watched this movie w my dad and I never laughed harder in my life, my favorite scene by far. Rip daddy 🕊
I remember watching this in the theater with my Dad too. He never laughed so hard in a movie.
This movie came out when I was three or four years old. The only reason I remember watching it in the movie theater is this particular scene. I had never ever seen, or would ever see, my father laugh so hard and so long. He was crying and didn’t stop laughing. My father laughed the whole car ride back to the house after the movie was over. RIP Sam ❤ Thanks for the laughs!
I'm smiling and reciting the lines word for word. The good old days of watching movies like this
Same, I shared it and tagged a couple of people that can truly appreciate it

Paxton Whitehead and Burt Young have also perished too. And Ned Beatty.

Watching Sam Kinison scream at a student at the top of his lungs is what dreams are made of
I love how Rodney steps up to rescue the student from Sam's intensity. A real mensch!
1:33 Rodney's awkwardness after saying he's a lover, getting no reaction from the students and realizing he may have tipped the professor over the edge with that line. LOL
oh my goodness, Sam Kinison and Rodney Dangerfield were classics. I saw Sam Kinison at the comedy club in LA long before he was famous. I made the mistake of heckling him. oh boy that was a heck of a mistake because he did that screaming thing to me. I was sitting in the front row with the spotlight on me - boy we're my friends proud of me that night.
Lol
"Is she right?" Turgesson begins to boil.
And the tension starts to build!
You could see he was about to explode while grinding his teeth, great acting!
I didn't know you wanted to join the conversation mr helper
Was it because she said "Vietnamesation"?
As his face gets red..
If you look at sam while he's in rodney's face, you can tell rodney was trying so hard to no bust out laughing
It's probably why there's an awkward cut scene when the prof is yelling, "SAY IT!! SAY IT!!"
"“I don't want to die. I don't want to die....." Kinison paused as if he was listening to someone "But why?" Kinison pauses again, and then utters his last words: "Oh, Okay. Okay."
Those were his last few words he was saying while he was lying on the roadside of the I15 freeway
That's what people who were there said they heard.
@@sueraymo3239 It was on US 95 northwest of Needles, CA.
I always wondered if Sam, even though he stopped being a pastor, held onto his faith and he was talking with Christ before he died.
Gives me chills. Spine cord torn and bleeding internally, the chilling part is when God or Christ responded too his why he calmed down and accepted death. Okay okay okay........
Kinison was actually not a bad actor, at least in this movie.
Yes. He was spot on here.
Who said he was a bad actor?
Strong case of overacting, tho.
He was hilarious but actually scared that poor girl look like she was going to cry
First time I seen this he had me in tears
When Kinison breaks the desk, you could tell that Dangerfield was so struggling to keep it together he was shaking. Truly one of the greatest comedic moments of all time.
I just noticed the blonde in front (the girl he yelled at) also completely loses it at him tearing the seat out. She has to quickly cover her face to contain her laughter. I have to wonder if Sam improvised attacking the chair being no one else in the scene seemed prepared for it.
Skeptical Chris i would love to see the outtake reel on this

I never forget going with my parents at 8 years old to the movies to watch “Back To School” and when Sam Kinison’s face showed as Professor Terguson: the whole theater of adults erupted in laughter. At 8 years old I didn’t get it but at 45 years old today, I get it now. 😂🤣😆
Just watched it again. I tell people, who are making a vote or a choice I agree with internally and nor would I ever disrespect their choice or vote but when it falls in my favor, I do say “Good answer, good answer. I always fallout laughing when Terguson rips the back of the chair off and throws it away. 😂
Look closely, Rodney starts laughing too!! 😂
He was probably seeing a Viet Cong’s head when he did that.
This might be my favorite bit of his, even out of his standups. Pacing and build up is perfection. No wasted lines.
Sam was so brilliant in this. The scene stands up after all these years. I love the guy over Rodneys shoulder who looks like he is about to have a nervous breakdown during Sams meltdown.
“Putting headbands on and doing drugs” 😂😂😂

The tragic irony of Sam Kinison. Gets clean and sober and is killed by another drunk driver.
