My calculator had been sitting unused for more than 10yrs. I was worried I would have to buy another. The School of KZhead is undefeated! Thank you!
Have the same calculator and fixed it. You saved me $100. Thank you !
Same here. Thank you~
Crying tears of joy right now because I really can not afford to buy another one of these and I now won’t have to. Thank you so so so much.
Thank you so much, you just saved a poor college student $100
Bought mine at the thrift store for 2$CAD and this fixed it. U just savex my ass 100$ as i needed it for ap calc
Broooo..you just saved my $100...life saver
My screws were hex. I had to use a T6 hex driver. Same one I used to strip down hard drives. Back when we still had hard drives. After that worked like a charm! My daughter is using the same calculator in high school that I used in college statistics!
Thank you so much. Has no idea that a tiny burnt speck could make my calculator stop working. Thanks again for the help!
Fine method. I soldered a thin copper wire across the damage, allowing the solder to cover the original gold pad. This will protect against corrosion. By abrading off the gold as described will leave bright copper which will corrode over time and may return the problem. So if you use the BarTech method put a tiny drop of light oil (e.g. WD40) over the repair. RJA.
Thanks, man it worked. I just cleaned those plates with Alcohol and it started working again. Thank you
This is wonderful, the fix worked! An important piece of information - a bad button battery is never the source of it not turning on. It will turn on with no backup battery installed.
I always wondered about this. Thank you.
Bingo. Fixed my daughter’s calculator just in time for her chem test. Thank you!
saved me 100$ thank you sir.
Thank you so much! So, I used a q-tip (like what you did) except I stuck it inside two holes (that shows a little bit of the board) below the battery compartment and twirled it around to clean off the erosion. Miraculously (at least for the time being), it works! Thank you for the guidance! Otherwise, I would have wasted my time and resources to locate and purchase another used TI calculator.
Thank you for this comment. I did this and I was shocked it worked
The contacts on my TI84 were corroded just as you described. I was able to fix it. Thank you so much. I really like the calculator and am really glad that it is working again
Thanks for this! Added input: I didn't have the hex to open the entire calculator. I used your cleaning method just the same! When you open the battery cover, there are two exposed slots at the bottom where you can see those copper conduits for the battery and the cotton swabs fit perfectly! You can adjust the alluminum springs that complete the curcuit from there with tweezers until it is exactly in contact to function.
This input was so helpful because none of my tools fit! Thank you.
Highly recommend doing this if your calculator won’t turn on. Worked for mine! Great video
Great video, I like how you explained every step of the process. Keep up the good work!
awesome video!! so helpful and clear instructions!! fixed my calculator in less than 10 minutes!!! :)
Great video. My suggestion is before you start scraping and sanding on the board try some cleaning vinegar. This will remove the salt (from the leaking battery). Then clean with alcohol. The idea is to remove all corrosive from any place it can be.
Thanks a lot for your help. You are awesome!! I was ready to throw it away..
Thank you very much, your video helped me fix my calculator, moving the metal clips solved the problem. God bless you 👍
Dude this video is spor on! Thanks
Excellent instruction worked for me. Thank you.
Have an exam tomorrow and broke down on me today thanks for the vid! 👍
I didn’t that’s to take my calculator about and just put a q tip with some alcohol on the wires at the bottom. Thanks for the video !
Saved my calculator!!! Thanks for the great video.
You are the best ...thank you bro !!!
I have a TI-84 as well, but the back doesn't look like this. I'm always afraid of breaking something, so did a case come with your that you had to remove, or am I just looking at this the wrong way? I know the back should have an opening for the batteries, but it doesn't.
Just fixed one TI-84 Plus Silver Edition yesterday. I bought it second hand claiming no keys working but when it arrived, it didn't turn on. The 4 batteries were full and new that came with the calculator. No matter what, it did not turn on with the ON key, so I decided to open it. I noticed the screws are not T6 but a T5 maybe. I used a specific screw bit to take out the top screws and then the other 4 screws were unscrewed with a partial worn flat screw driver gently to not worn out the screw heads. 6 torx screws out plus the philips. The hard part was to separate the top part from the bottom part. In the case of the Silver Edition, you need to take out the front plate for the keys or you are gonna put pressure on some keys. I started from the top clip, then the left lcd clip and right, then the bottom left and right clips and the bottom part is finally out.... to reveal a complete corroded negative pad on the pad. I also noticed some copper oxidation little sand over the shield and some probably scattered over the rest of the pcb. I gently sanded down the negative contact to reveal the copper. Nothing else was oxidised. To prevent this from happening again, I soldered two wires for negative and positive terminals from the battery to the PCB and this made the diagnostics easier. The calculator gave signs of life and like the seller said.. no keys working. I tried the method of the pin bit into the 2.5mm port but this didn't work. I installed the Ti-connect which allowed me to save current applications and then I flashed the offered ROM version 2.22 while the calc had 2.40. Still no keys. Then flashed 2.55MP version with same result. First link from Google showed an iFixit guide which says to clean the keypad array. So I unsrewed the 4 screws and released the key rubber protection from the huge PCB it seemed clean. First I blow over the side of the chips and pour alcohol over the copper contects fpr the keys and gently cleaned the copper contacts and while at it, I also cleaned the LCD and again one more time for the keys. The rubber seemed fine. Sure enough... the keys started working. It must have been some key contact hapnening. When I fixed a normal 83, some very tiny solder ball was left by me and did the same thing. To wrap up, I assembled the calc with the 2 wires soldered and enjoyed a fully working Ti-84 Plus Silver Edition for my collection. I also got concerned by the top black plastic flat cable for the LCD that was partially unglued, so I used some tape.
THANKS A BILLION :D or rather 100$ or so. Still a life saver
Thank you for the information very helpful
Excellent video thanks for posting. I had to laugh that you had contact cleaner spray. I would’ve just gone with mineral spirits Or alcohol with fine sandpaper. Again great job
Thank you so much, I was able to fix mine with the help of your video it had the same problem. Thanks
Glad it helped. It seems to be a very common problem.
I also had the same battery contact problem with a TI-89 Titanium calculator. Solved.
my man this worked, just the burnt copper part where you turned the spring wire!
Thank you!! You saved me $128 dollars!!
This worked for me, thanks!
It worked for me! Thanks!
Thank you bartech, u just save me 😀😀😁
Hello. I came across your video because I was looking for ways to help me out. I had corrosion on my calculator and cleaned it and is fine now. But seems like some on my operations are off. Like cos(45) should be .0717, I believe. But I am getting -.4456. Could you tell me how I can reset this? Thank you.
thank you! this worked
Worked like a charm, perfect explanation
Which tool did you use to take out the screws? Thanks
Use the screw driver used for eye glasses.
Nope. Mine was hex, I had to use a T6 x 60. Had one laying around.
where i find file 8XG with backup file from ti83+
Thank you very much. My calculator is on again 😊
Great!
Thank you!
Couldn’t you put a copper foil Square over the area where the contact is?
Thank you
my calculator fixed as soon as the video started
holy shit thank you
Here's a method if your short on time, open the back batter cover and you will see two slots on the bottom like at 1:22 in the video, without opening up the calculator, you can then use a screw driver to prod the wires back onto the circuit board. If my instructions were unclear, refer to this video cause this is where I got the method from. kzhead.info/sun/a6eMpreProqvqXA/bejne.html
Lifesaver comment thank you @pixelboy
Can you help me? I replaced my batteries and it turns on but there a flicker on the screen. Idk what’s causing that and how to solve it.
It flickers when I press the “on” button but I can’t see anything
This worked for me, same issue with the burnt contact!!!!!
It seems to be very common.
Thank God for this video. I was gonna be f*cked sideways if I could not fix this calculator in time for my college final.
Mine will turn on but all other buttons are unresponsive , any suggestions??? I have 3 exams coming up that I will need to use it for :/
Also I live in Dallas where Ti HQ is located do they have any repair place I can take it to??
I have the same problem :
Update mine just started workin randomly !!
Nice it worked.Thanks.
Found a broken one in my class and thought it would be funny to ask if I could keep it and to my surprise she said yeah and thought it was cool I like to fix stuff
Fixing stuff is really satisfying. If you practice and get really good at it you could even make it your career.
@@BartechTV yeah It really is and good for the environment and creates less e waste for landfills but clearly my math teacher does not understand are views on this because she had and 30 to 40 ti83 plus calculators with a little bit of corrosion and instead of getting them fixed or letting me fix them she threw them away 😤 it made me mad so after class me and my friends went from trashcan to trashcan and couldn't find them which sucks but atleast I got a ti 84 plus se and ti 83 plus out of the deal.and what makes me most mad is that these were brand new calculators that had batteries in them and over the years of no use corroded but still with like to minutes of work they would function fine.(btw at the walmart i go to they sell these for about $100 usd each so she easily threw away $3000 usd of calculators away and will have to be replaced with tax payer money)p.s im in 8th grade so I'm not super great at grammar so please excuse some mistakes in this long comment.
I fix it….just put dw 40 on those contacts. Is working again after years 😀
Nice 👍
ohh thank god i save 2000 peso
Mine is brand new and won't turn on.
You should take it back and ask for a replacement. I wouldn't follow the steps in this video unless it's out of warranty.
@@BartechTV Thank you. That is exactly what we will do.
