This is the MS Borealis from Fred Olsen Cruise Lines: www.lifeinnorway.net/fred-ols...
I recently took a two-week trip on the Borealis from Liverpool to Northern Norway on a winter northern lights hunt and as you’ll see on my other video about the trip ( • Northern Lights Cruise... ), we succeeded!
I know many of you planning a Fred Olsen cruise are keen to find out more about the MS Borealis, to see if it's a good fit for you. That's the focus of this video.
Together with its sister ship the Bolette, the Borealis is relatively new to the Fred Olsen fleet but it’s not a new vessel. Far from it, in fact. Fred Olsen recently bought the ships from Holland America Line. Under its former name the Rotterdam, the Borealis had sailed for Holland America Line for 22 years. It took its maiden voyage at the end of 1997.
So how would it be sailing in 2023 on a ship built in the 90s? Come on board and I’ll show you around.

  • So many memories for me. I worked an 8 month contract when it was The Rotterdam and had the opportunity of a world cruise. A truly wonderful ship. What I consider to be a ship and not the floating mega malls with thousands of passengers. I was also fortunate to enjoy most of the passenger spaces but the best place was the crew bar. Thanks for such a great video.

    • I'm not sure I'd call it glamorous, but considering its age I thought it was really well looked after 👍

  • I've heard that Fred Olsen is primarily a British cruise line. As someone from the states, any opinion on how that would work out for me. Just got back from Scotland for 12 days, the heavy accent did get to me after a while. Sure they felt the same way! har har..

    • Well I’m British so I can’t really judge. The onboard experience is very British, so only you will know whether that’s for you or not.

  • Looking at this ship but am a bit worried about how she rides the sea - previous ships i have been on is Azura and Ventura (115/6K tonnes) - Queen Mary 2 (150K tonnes) and Sky Princess (145K Tonnes). At ^!k Tonnes, this ship is much smaller - and i would hate to get seasick all holiday. Any View appreciated :)

    • It depends where you're going and when most of all. I just did a North Sea crossing in July and it was much, much calmer than in January and March. If you're concerned about movement, booking a cabin midship is a good idea.

    • I worked on this ship, sailing in the Mediterranean, across the Atlantic, The Eastern Seaboard of the United States and the Carribbean. Although smaller than some of the newer ships, it handles weather just as well. As crew though, occasionally we would make journeys without passengers when changing embarkation ports. For these journeys they would turn off the stabilisers to save on fuel. It was still a sturdy ship, even without the stabilisers.

  • Is this a cruise only for seniors?

    @jolietia@jolietia Жыл бұрын
    • No, although the passengers definitely skew older so it’s not the liveliest atmosphere. I talk more about the Fred Olsen passengers on this video: kzhead.info/sun/bJqedr6Ia51sfWw/bejne.html

    • No sure where you got that nonsense from. This ship was built new as a Cruise ship and named Rotterdam for Holland America. What is a Bro? Thought that was what kids of about 5 years of age called each other. Christ you cannot be an adult surely using the word bro?
