How many goats can I run per acre is one of the most commonly asked questions on my channel. Everyone wants to know how many goats they can run on their property.

Just a tip with the Flies, put a few chickens in with your goats. The chickens will eat the larvae off of the manure before they become Flies.
that is a good idea..
Brother make a good point.
It really works, I do that
I have like over two hunferd Quail here on my goat farm. They go through the goat manure, and horse manure all the time. They stay here, because nobody hunts them.
The ENTIRE reason why I first got chickens!! I spend so much $$$ on sprays and predators and what have you, then I got chickens. Just 15, but that first summer saw a 80% reduction in flies. No longer was my weepy mare wearing a fly mask that had hundreds of flys on it. She was now able to go without any mask at all! Chickens are awesome.
To save everybodies time, the answer is "it depends .."
That's unfortunate. I'm six minutes into the video and it's all about "the factors." While what he's saying is correct, I would at least expect some solid numbers based on factors -- just toss a few examples out there, or provide your own situation as a baseline. Oh well.
According to expert u can graze 80 goat in 1 acer
goat farming pakistan pakistan You can, but not for long
My mama taught me that if you can't say something nice kep your mouth shut! The information he gives is a lot better than x goats per acre. He gives you the tools to figure out what works for you...
Rude much?
Watching these homesteading videos or so much better then watching anything on TV. And so much more educational I don't live in the country yet but I find today's video very informative and made a lot of sense to me. I thought you did a good job outlining and explaining things to consider when raising goats. Thx for sharing
I'm the same way, I never watch tv, this stuff is much more relevant and interesting.
I soooooo agree.
Agreed. I would much rather watch real people share their lives.
I am from Pakistan. I am going to start goat farming. I used to watch your videos. Its very helpful for me. I am going to start buying goats after 2 months. I want meat farming Take care and stay blessed
Let us know how it goes

Thank you for the great info Daniel! I so glad I found you're channel.
The answer is between 2 goats per acre to about 8 goats per acre depending on various factors.
Goats sound like an incredibly useful animal to have around !!
Very wise advice and solid info. Thanks for sharing. Hey Bear!
We are just beginning our homesteading journey; thanks for sharing your knowledge and encouragement!
Love that Bear dog . He is something else . Such a good boy .
Love your goat blogs. One day soon I’m going to add them.
I love your responses to your fans, most don't recognize or respond to very many viewers comments/ questions. I got 2 Kiko crosses yesterday. , have them on a little over an acre of Florida woods with lots of Blueberry, Gallberry, Palmetto etc. I saw you go from 146k to 147k today !
Even though this video didn't precisely answer the question, it was probably the answer people need to hear. And I learned a lot of other things from it. Thank you!
I was just curious about goats for my property, but you are a Rock star with Skip, Bear and the flies. Keep on posting.
Your a good teacher.
Danial the fly problems are in Newcastle also. I am fighting them as I watch this video in my garage. It must be a Oklahoma thing. LOL
You my Goat-To Guy... for info dude, thanks buddy.
Very informative, thanks brother best wishes for you and your family from East Texas.Frank
Great advice! I think a Kiko buck over dairy does would improve the hardiness in the offspring too. Hi Bear!
“Goats are very picky eaters” - this goes against everything I was taught by TV as a kid ;)
HA HA The dog don't quit - he insists on taking the leading roll. He's beautiful! Thank you for sharing him in your videos.
Nice information thanks as you said that it all depends on the climate of the area that we live in and we can make changes depending upon the climatic conditions and grass growth
Hi...... Thank you for showing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🌱🏡🎥👍👍👍
thanks for all the great info on goats looking to get 2 kiko doe's next year.harder to find here in western,NY thank some places.
Again a great informative video. Hi Bear!!
Just found your channel today & binge watching. Thank you so much for the excellent content!
Totally agree with chickenlips and a dozen Muscovy duck will absolutely flatten the flies that the chickens miss
I just enjoy watching! Hey, Bear!
You did a very good review on goats. sue xx UK
Hey Daniel it's Billy over at Far-Mar Homestead in S.E. Kansas. Were on the dairy side of the goat family. We raise Purebred Alpine goats and have had great luck with the milk production and love the mothering skills of our Alpine does. Great video and good advice for new comers to the goat raising experience. A lot of people in our area are hooked on raising the Boer meat goats but we have found that nitch in the market in our area where a good quality goat milk will bring a good profit margin. Keep up the good work on the videos.
Loved your video. great informative video.
The flies are soooo aggravating! Great info :)
2-8 goats per acre depending on grazing goats are browsers 21 day pdk rotation approx for no worms goats need some roughage in diet and goats love to climb things. Goats major escape artists. High netting fence and top wire a hotwire
Just watching this video for ideas for drawing goats. Enjoyed it.
Very informative tutorials Armstead!!!
Bear says hey wait a minute you ain't done petting me yet.....lol😀
Well there goes that time, lol thanks for adding confusion 😅
Armstead. Perfect.
That was extremely helpful, thank you.
Very informative! Hi Bear❤
Thanks for the info!
Thank you for teaching us about how many goats per acre you are truly awesome and insightful^ ^
Nice homestead and enjoy your videos
We already know it just depends. You have 110 acres, you said...how many goats do you have on your 110 acres? could you do more? Could you double your number? We don't need a video to tell us it depends since we already know that and we don't need a video if we just have to play with it and find out for ourselves... I appreciate the time you put into making this video, but for anyone else who wants some ballpark numbers, my neighbor has 35 pygmy goats on 10 acres with a large pole barn for shelter and some old scrap iron beams and girders for climbing. This is panhandle Florida and the goats keep the grass short 100% of the time. The herd has been self sustaining for about 20 years with little input. Another neighbor has about 20 medium sized meat goats on 10 acres and rotates them in 3 plots every week or two. The grass gets about a foot tall then the goats come in for a week, then they move to the next pen for a week.
Thanks for this. Lost interest in the video at the "It depends ...".
Your reaction to those flies are priceless bro great video man
That fly was determined!
Another great video !!! Thanks a lot
Yall are awesome!
Bout to buy my first piece of property and looking at some goats. I'm looking at about 24acres in the South east Norther Mississippi area. I got a nice size lake on property and I want to use minimal money but make the property make use of them. Good video.
Wow that's great for you.
picky eaters? are you kidding me, my goats eat the ivy off the side of buildings, bark off the trees, Thorn bushes I even caught a couple of them chewing on my firewood
Interesting content. I’m shopping for wooded acreage in Texas and am considering animal husbandry. I think goats might be perfect. Oh I love your dog and Immediately saw where he got his name from.☺️
Great advice that why I subscribed to your channel
Thanks D!
Daniel you had me cracking up with the flies. I got such a kick watching you get mad. I hate flies too. I used to service dairies years back and the flies were horrible. I could not get in or out of my truck fast enough to keep them from getting in. Every time I went to the dairies I'd have hundreds of flies in my cab when leaving. NUTS!!!
@Hello phil Dad, How are you doing?
Sweet Bear!
Great Video and Tipps!
Great video. 👍👍👍🐐🐐🐕
@Hello Gaston Cannon, How are you doing?
Got about 3 acres with a pond plan is spanish goats. 2 does 1 buck and either grow a little herd for the freezer.
I just got a couple baby goats ....my Bouvier loves them
Great advice!!
FRICKEN FLYS!!!! Lol. Great video, thank you for the info, definitely get chicken in with them goats.
Thank you for this video. I might be moving to Arkansas on a 1/2 acre. It has three sheds. One is going to be for my husbands tools. The second is for a woman that is like a sister to me to live in. The third is for us to live in. I am going to be running chickens and goats together. My husband is going to build me a shed for them all to be in at night. This video answered my question perfectly.
Did this work out? How is it going?
Thanx for sharing 😊😊😊
THANKS THAT WAS HELPFUL !!!!!
I just wanted one or two for a quarter acre to help control the brush and maybe get a little milk. Also, I think they're neat.
Goats are herd animals. They are miserable and dont thrive if left alone
I'm in Poteau. My little 5 acre homestead is a wild mess. It's bottom land with multiple creeks crossing. it's perimeter fenced except there the creeks cross. I don't know how I'd fence them in. boy I've got plenty for them to eat though.
Nice video
Hi Bear Rub Run I enjoy your vids
Yes, that is my priority, to control brush on over 35 acres. Another thing to consider is how many goats can you transport. 😉 I do not have a truck or a trailer just yet. So I was looking at how many goats can I transport in my Pathfinder. I think 2 is my max. So I was looking at getting 2 bred does so that I could have a maximum of 8 goats. I think that would about be my limit. Of course, what's the chances of both does having triplets?
45% ish
Wanting to start my dairy goat farm from scratch. YESSS!!
Yeah my property I think is better suited for sheep no forest but I like learning about goats
That was a very wide overview .... Love you vids. We also have goats. Just bought the farm. 15 acres, and I am interested in having a couple of good beef cows and then the goats. I really need help figuring out how much feed to give them each day...
We ran dairy & meat goats for over 20 years, and learned quickly that goats must have hay. Feed/grain when lactating is nice. Try to get any kind of hay EXCEPT coastal, unless that's the only thing you can possibly find.
@@mmiller327 thanks
Bear is a hoot.
Every 3rd comment is about Bear, as well it should be. He is sooo cool, so is Bella. Houston, Bear and Bella should have a channel themselves ! Thumbs up !
'goats are finicky eaters ?' i'm no goat exert , but i never heard that before....
I'm enjoying these goat videos, do a how to bbq a goat later in the season
I've got a place in Tombstone Arizona. It's not that I want goats just to eat the brush (if they even would). What I'd like to do is get the coyotes to eat the brush. It's the least they could do for eating all the cats in the area.
Maxid1 Bless your heart
Flies tip get a industrial fan and it will blow the flies away. As for bear interruptions just put him on a leash. Thanks in advance
So 6 large, dozen small/acre, provided you have pasture to rotate and hay fields to stock up for the winter. Theoretically if all your land is airable you could get as many as 300+ but that leaves little room for error and looks like it would become a PITA after a while.
Really interesting...we love hearing about the goats! Is Zeus a Kiko?
Well I don’t have a goat named Zeus but if you are taking about my buck then yes he’s a Kiko.
I use a more satisfying expletive when talking about flies...it also begins with an "F".....!
I live southdakota on 80 acres on the praire
We're looking to sign on property in southeast Oklahoma the first week of September this year (2021). We have 4 acres that were wanting a few goats to put out to pasture with our horses. We have very very thick brush and big boulders and hills. We were gonna use a 5 strand electric fence. Any info or suggestions would be GREAT since we've never had goats b4 😬.....I'm trying to soak up everything
I hate flies too. LOL :-)
Flys are insane here in Illinois !!!!!!
What kind of feed how much need to feed each day? What kind hay? Do feed hay when plenty grass. Tie it out someway.
Video idea. Shelter for rotational grazing. I was trying to think along the lines of a chicken tracter, but up sized for goats with three walls. I need shelter for about 15 head. Any ideas?
Dog kennel 10 by 10 Tractor supply
wanting to clear a neglected farm. There are small to 6' cedars growing all over the pastures. I want to clean up pasture to eventually bring in cattle. Have you calculated Pounds per Acre - I would like to do intensive grazing and possible moves daily.. this means depending on existing forage I could run much smaller paddocks (depending on the number of goats) but based on weight per acre might make it a bit easier to gauge. What say you? thanks for the video
Hi bear and Daniel
Hello! My husband and I are looking into using goats for fire abatement in California. Do you have any resources to recommend as far as the day to day logistics of taking care of goats and what a day in the life of a fire abatement goat business is like?
More Bear, Bella and Houston clips !
boss....my house is on a square 1.5 acre with the house in the center. i want to fence the entire yard and put goats on the land. just let them run everywhere in the yard. im thinking it would keep the grass down. how many can i have? and is it a good idea to let them run the entire yard?
Thank you for such a thorough explanation of all the criteria to consider. Your ranch is awesome. Bear looks like a happy boy. We are a two acre hobby farm on the slopes of Haleakala, Maui, surrounded by reserve and one mile from 30,000 acre Haleakala Ranch. We just have chickens and gardens, but last week we got three bottle fed Nigerian Dwarf babies as pets. They are already running with our pack of five Aussies. I am gathering all the info I can, and YT fed me your channel. The history of Haleakala Ranch is pretty interesting for anyone wanting to Google it.
Dan between the flies and the Male goat in the back I don't know what to laugh about sorry Dan your message is coming across loud and clear but IT IS FUNNY !!!
Blessed Easter to all in the Arms Family Remember Jesus Loves You !!!
Sooooo.... northeast Texas, 70 acres, never been cut, covered in old growth hardwoods and underbrush. Thornvines , sweet gum and cedar bush. I need underbrush gone, for both fire suppression and hunting. Advice?
Loved your video. Do you have a video or story to tell in which Bear saved your goats?
No I really don't.
I want to raise meat goats and sell the kids and the meat. And hope to turn a profit. I have just under 3 acres. My new home used to be a small cattle farm and is set up with stalls and feeders and electric fencing . Goats seems like a good start for us to get into the farm life. Boers and Kikos Are what I’ve been told I should start with. I’ve been researching all I can possibly look up. Any advice you can give me would be great! Great video!
I have a TON of natural forage and will want a handful of goats 🐐 to mainly clear the land. Would be nice to process them for meat possibly as well. Any recommendations for a 122 acre property with high forage in North Carolina like what breed and will I need to feed them hay or can they just eat forage?
Check out Allan Savoury regarding animals grazing on land, great info. Love your goats.😊
Call your county agent and get them to help you with your plan.
