  • This may be a dumb comment but it’s so nice to see straight men embrace and see romantic gay movies and series and understand that love is love. Being a little older than them, that wasn’t my experience with straight men growing up, it’s almost emotional to see the younger generations be so open minded and just caring people. ❤

No one is congratulating us for tolerating them. It’s not right they get more praises for being tolerant just for a bit while we had it since day 1. You all get what I am saying? Why does straight men get even more praise for the most basic sh!t????? Or deserve praise exactly? It’s like congratulating Russia for not nuking the world while going to war with Ukraine. “Oh great, at least you’re not nuking the world”. Let’s close our eyes to the OTHER terrible sh!t they do now and throughout history.

    • Right? Rarely seen anything so intimate, heart-touching, warm and beautiful, gay or str8. Makes me tear up every time. The actors clearly oooooozed chemistry, on-screen and they also became close off-screen right away. The director said that he would've walked away from the movie if they couldn't find the right actors. Took them nearly half a year, but I'm glad they had that patience. And yes, I felt like an intruder, too. They hired an intimacy coordinator for the movie, and obviously he could help Taylor and Nicholas to let go.

  • I can't believe some people have said that Nicholas and Taylor have no chemistry. Their connection felt so organic and effortless. I could feel the angst, the hurt, the longing, the love and the friendship. I really love how the sex scene is so much more than sex, it's truly making love. It was so intimate that I felt like I was intruding on something very personal between two people. This one of the most beautiful, complex romances I've ever seen in a movie. But also a great depiction of what it's like to be in a position where you are afraid to be who you are. Even though the movie is obviously not based on a true story, the emails being hacked is based on a real scandal where phones of dozens of celebrities and public figures were hacked, including members of the royal family. But the most twisted thing about it was when it was discovered that, not only had phones of victims in terrorist attacks been hacked, but also the phone of a murdered teenager named Milly Dowler, which lead the police and her family to hold out false hope that she was still alive.

  • If anyone ever wants to question why 'Intimacy Coordinator' is a valid and NEEDED profession in productions, this THIS right here is why. The intimacy work that was carried about between these actors was just beautiful; being able to bounce between hot, heavy, sensual, and vulnerable in all of the ways it needed to be. Directors don't have all the skills, and they can't when it comes to intimacy and power dynamics, so THIS is the elevated experience we get when Intimacy Work is given it's due on a project. As a gay man, every touch, feel, and nod for permission was a real and lived experience...and that work carries to make their chemistry so much more beautiful through the rest of the movie!

My husband and I have been together for 35 years and I honestly feel like this country has lost so much ground for LGBTQ+, women’s rights and middle class families because of a minority of right wing neo-Nazis little dictator wannabes. We will not give up nor will we be made second class citizens because we happen to be two men who fell in love at first sight. It’s really encouraging to see three young men who feel secure enough in their own skin to let other people be who they are. • “They were definitely meant for each other” damn im crying. Also the movie was an adaptation made with so much love. BUT amazon studios did intervene with some stuff. Which made the movie sort of lose some depth. Like in the book the American politics def made it hard for Alex too. Miguel wasn’t a character, the person who outed him was Richards, the white man running from the Republican party, who used Alex’ sexuality and the amount of times he traveled to Europe to see Henry a point in which why America shouldn’t vote for Claire (Alex’ mom). He also had a sister. And they both struggled to get their mom’s attention sometimes bc of her work. His parents were divorced too which def affected certain ways in which he looked at love, especially love within the world of politics. He also had a mentor, who isn’t in the movie, who was queer and had supposedly betrayed him which is why Henry had gone to the hotel he was staying in (where they got caught). Henry went because he heard Alex mentor joined the Republican party and he knew alex was incredibly hurt. As well as the email leak wasnt just about their relationship, but their family secrets, like Henry’s sister addiction and issues with his grandma and mom. As well as with his brother, and Alex’ family issues. The mentor didn’t betray alex either, at the end it was that Richards, the Republican lead, had sexually assaulted many young men (even though he trashed on the queer community) so the mentor had joined the Republican party to try to gather information about the allegations. He helped Alex prove publicly that Richards had leaked the emails and THATS what won them texas. The proof that the Republican party had fucked with citizen private emails regardless of how people felt about the queerness. Amazon studios didn’t want the plot to revolve too much around other characters that weren’t Henry or Alex, so they cut the storylines of all the surrounding characters. Nonetheless the love, chemistry, and bones of the plot (as well as Henry and Alex’ personality) are very much there and well done!!!!

    • In French the idea of 'normal', means that it is strange, unusual, special. Here their relationship is what is expected, there's nothing strange, it is the expression of what everyone would do. What is done is what both guys want what is happening. Not straight vs gay, etc, it means you are responding as both desire. In the Anglo world it is unexpected : the Anglo world is without comfort in being real, sensitive, no censure. One responds without censure because responding sensorially is real life. His body is warm, his lips soft, his lips sweet: no criticism, only appreciation for the courage to be oneself and real.

  • Godddddd the chemistry is carrying this film on its back! I don’t get how some people say they have no chemistry like did we watch the same thing? Also gay people deserve silly heartwarming low-budget rom-coms too! Not every piece of queer media needs to be sad and angsty and about The Struggle TM. As far as adaptations go this did a pretty good job. Only thing I flat out hate is Miguel because he's so annoying and also him getting his hands on their emails… how? How would he even know those existed never mind getting his hands them. They already had a good antagonist so why this change? Also as much as I love Alex’s speech (it’s a great speech and he drops some truths in there) it makes the whole thing with the king's plan to deny everything not make sense because Alex already confirmed the relationship… But all in all they did a phenomenal job with the budget and time limit they had!

I can't help but think there is someone out there who somehow misses the entire point of the movie and thinks the crowds are cheering for Henry "just for being gay" or something, which would obviously be such a watered down, wrong way to understand it.

  • One of the unanticipated problems of the movie is that they made it so real, except for when it has to veer away from reality for the story. But this means a lot of people (including me at first) were critical of details, that "it would never happen this way." The alternative would be a fairytale kingdom, like the one in Disney's Cinderella, where no one objects and points out "mice and birds can't sew a dress" or other such matters. But I think this movie would suffer much of its impact.

(A few reactors have tilted their heads at this dialogue) It's an uncommon example, but it is very reminiscent of the manner of speaking in the Great Lakes region (so think Chicago, Buffalo & Toronto, CA). It sounds like something a straight man from those areas would say actually lol, maybe he was playing into the bi side of the character.

  • I know that these guys reviewed Heartstopper, but due to my age...and my upbringing what affected me the most (and I am in tears at this point) is the ability (and of course I am assuming here) straight men to be so accepting, and comfortable with gay content, and gay love being portrayed (and I was mostly assuming they are straight because of how much they are quite impressed with the young lady at start of the film who was sitting in the presidents office)...as I was saying I am so emotional over the fact that three straight men are so open to watching this film, and it not being a problem for them. I live in Southern Indiana which is as conservative, right wing, and religious an area as you can get in the USA, and men like these were the ones that when I was younger would bully me, beat me up, and would threaten to kill me just for being gay (and yes a few gay men in Louisville, KY were killed for being gay and was confirmed as being a hate crime by the bigoted police there even.) Has it really got so much better in so many parts of the USA? If so...lgbt+ still have a long way to go, but God has it gotten so much better...man do I wish I was growing up today in an accepting part of the USA....my life would have been different I am sure. Anyway guys, GREAT reaction...I am MOST impressed with the fact that during the extreme intimate love making scene between 2 men you guys just laughed it off, and didn't make a big deal out of it, or scream "that is so disgusting, they are going to hell" or similar.
