1. Do a compression check. 2. If good, replace valve stem seals, possibly valve guides. Should run clean then.
@jamesredman1263Ай бұрын
Do a leak down test also while you're in there. It also wouldn't hurt to use the old dollar trick on the exhaust pipes to see if it's constantly blowing outwards, if it gets sucked in every now and then you've probably got a valve that's not sealing all the way when that dollar gets sucked in. Could be a burnt valve, valve seat, weak valve spring or something else in the valve train causing it not to close like a flat spot on the Cam itself. Someone else said that they knew the previous owner and that this car was ripped on constantly so there's no telling what you're liable to find on a total teardown. At least you got a good amount of pricey performance parts that can be reused but like many vehicles that are out there today that's just what they do have a bunch of bolt on parts and no internal work ever done. Good luck hopefully you got a good enough deal that another $18-$20k of internal work and upgrades doesn't kill the budget. At least the body looks to be in good shape, interior looked a little ratty to be expected with that kinda mileage though, but could be a nice hotrod.

Your vehicle will not be exactly what someone else is looking for. There are too many different types of combinations of parts and components for it to be exactly what someone else wants, so build it for yourself and enjoy it but when you decide to sell it expect to take a loss unless you're in the business of building vehicles for other people.

Normally I am not turned off by 160,000 km on a decent vehicle ... but on a suped up Camaro? That thing has for sure been bagged.
who knows, maybe the engine had a rebuild 40,000 miles ago, but then again, could've been a hard 40k
I saw a Chevelle that had ten grand on the odometer, but the car had been a drag car, so after a few hundred drag passes, the motor blew, and it went through three engines in that ten thousand miles. So this car could have been decently maintained, but it also could have been rode hard and put away wet.
Could be build not very many kms ago, mabye the dude who built it bought a crapped out one for cheap to save money on the build if he was putting new internals in it anyway, ive done that before

Oh yes, driving a high performance car like it was designed to do is dogging it to death. Jesus, you sound like the people that buy these kinds of cars just to go 30mph in the city. I mean, it is a camaro so yeah, its gonna break alot but that engine will outlive the rest of the car at 800hp

Blue smoke on startup a true sign of its potential: rings, cylinder linings worn. Looks like it runs on oil, not petrol 😕 a sweet ride with a factory engine.
Hahaha yeah no kidding!!
He just bought an abused camaro worse then a stock one
Who cares? I bet he got it for buttons
Well, instead of buying all those extra blower and pulley parts, plus it’s already cammed and shit, the car will be more than worth the cost of repair. Only needing piston rings and getting a huge discount on a car is a fair trade.
just needs vale stem seals nothing else
1. Do a compression check. 2. If good, replace valve stem seals, possibly valve guides. Should run clean then.
Could also be something simple like plug seals, they tend to start leaking around 90k on these motors.
It has the rare exhaust valve oil spray cooling system
Its had the shit run out of it!😂
A pretty obvious statement for a sportscar.. why do people say this like it's some hot take?

The pistons , rods and rings are toast. The bottom end needs a lot of time. The blue smoke is valve stem seals so the top end is probably burnt toast.
I mean depending on the parts in it. The hp. Etc. honestly it could more then enough be worth it if you got the time and or money
Rering, maybe bore and get some new pistons if it’s that bad or just run it if it’s within spec and the rings are just shot. Might need new main bearings, but who cares? Freshen it up, send the supercharger out for service and you’ll have a fast as hell unit
The key fob gives you the soulless stare. It says, "Avenge meeeeee!" Hearing that supercharger spin up... Nice.

You mean the low tire pressure and fasten seat belt lights? Oh no! It also has a maintenance due notification, whatever shall he do?!? Time to send you back to kindergarten.
Sometimes, money is no object! Once fixed up, you'll lose money if you sell it. Nature of the beast!
Fix it, keep it and drink beer and stare at it everyday. 🤨
You can throw all the money and upgrades you want into any vehicle and once you do anyone that knows anything about modifying cars it's preferential to your own taste, budget, and liking, your not going to get your money back out of it, it's that simple. Your vehicle will not be exactly what someone else is looking for. There are too many different types of combinations of parts and components for it to be exactly what someone else wants, so build it for yourself and enjoy it but when you decide to sell it expect to take a loss unless you're in the business of building vehicles for other people.

How much did you cop this for?
Considering that it runs well and doesn't misfire, the blue smoke can't really be from bad piston rings. It's most likely a valve guide that's gone bad. Or even something as simple as a valve stem seal. And even if the rings are bad, they aren't that hard to replace.
Rings aren't hart its just very very VERY time consuming
@@jackb7954 Hmmm... I think you could leave the block attached tho. Remove the head, drop the oil pan, drop the crankshaft, extract the pistons and rods from below, swap the rings and put them back from above and reassemble. Could you do it like that in cars that don't require the front axle to be removed in order to drop the oil pan?
